IfyouareillyoucanmakeanappointmentwithyourGP.Thisconsultationisfreeandifyourequiremedicineyouwillbegivenaprescriptiontotaketoapharmacy.PrescriptionsarecurrentlyfreeofchargeinScotland.

IfyouliveintheStudentResidences,stafftherewillhelpyoutoregisterwithalocaldoctor.

Council TaxThisisalocaltaxthatpeoplearerequiredtopayforservicessuchasroadmaintenanceandrefusecollection.Moststudentsstudyingfull-timecollegecoursesdonothavetopayCouncilTaxbutyoumustfillinaformtoapplyforthisexemptionandgetitstampedbyCollegestafftoconfirmthatyouareastudenthere.YouwillbeabletogetthisformfromStudentServices.IfyoushareaflatwithsomeonewhoisnotastudentyoumaybeeligibleforareductioninCouncilTax,butnotanexemption.

Buddy up:Ifyouarereturninghomelateatnight,avoidisolatingyourself.Trytowalkingroups,usepublictransportandstayonwell-litstreets.Makesurethatyouhaveyourmobilephonewithyou.

Areas to avoid after dark:Parksandisolatedareas.StudentsbasedatRiversidecampusshouldavoidtheClydeWalkwayifwalkingalone,especiallyatnight.TheCollegeiscurrentlyworkingwiththePolicetoimprovelightingandinstallCCTVattheClydeWalkway.

Stay alert:Listentoyourinstincts.Payattentiontowhatisgoingonaroundyouandavoidblockingoutsoundswithearphones.Youreyesandearsareyourbestdefence.Ifyouthinkyouarebeingfollowed,eitheronfootorbysomeoneinacar,donotignoreyourinstincts.Trytogotoabusypopulatedarea.Ifyoufeelyouareinimmediatedangerrun,screamandmakeascene!

Let people know where you are and where you are going:Ifyou’regoingout,letyourfriendsandflatmatesknowwhereyou’regoingandwhenyouexpecttoreturn.

HatecrimecantakeanumberofformsanditisimportanttoreportahatecrimetoeitherthePolicedirectly,orthroughourCollege,whichisaThirdPartyReportingCentre.
