“Congratulations to our graduating class of 2020. You, and those coming

behind you, will have faced more challenges to your education in the last

10 months than many of us would have seen in a lifetime. Yet never

before has getting that education been more important. I commend your

persistence, determination and resilience; if you continue to apply this

throughout your life, then you will be unstoppable.

While we all celebrate this moment education is not a ‘moment’ or an

‘event’, but rather a life-long process, and unconsciously or consciously

we are all life-long learners. The best amongst us will make life itself their

classroom; not only will every experience, every moment teach them

something they will actively search for new skill and knowledge. When

you find an elderly person you truly admire, I suspect you will find that

one of the qualities you admire the most is that they remain permanently

inquisitive and interested in things they don’t know.

The future of these islands calls upon you to learn as much as you can,

in any way that you can – some of you today are the next Premiers,

Deputy Governors, Ministers, doctors, nurses, engineers, military or

police officers, pastors, teachers, tourism professionals, entrepreneurs,

business and wealth creators and civil servants but as importantly

professions that someone of my generation can barely imagine let alone

hope to have enjoyed. The world you inherit is changing quickly and you

will have to adapt, continuously, to remain personally competitive.

Though some of you may be disappointed that you weren’t in the

physical classroom, remember that ‘where’ you learn is never as

important as the ‘hunger’ to learn. That has been really tested this year

and not found wanting. I wish you all, every success, in what I’m sure will

be extraordinary futures.

MESSAGE FROM

HIS EXCELLENCY GOVERNOR, TCI

Nigel Dakin

The pleasure is mine to bring greetings to you, the graduates of the Class of 2020 as you set forth to meet the challenges of a new world in a new normal as we battle the novel virus COVID-19. I am jubilant, that despite the setbacks of this year, many of you have succeeded the criteria for graduation. Graduates, be proud that you have reached another milestone in your accomplishments, but let me remind you that there is much more to achieve. You are graduating from an institution that has been producing outstanding individuals for over twenty-five years; individuals who today, hold leadership positions in every sphere in this country and I trust that you will follow in their footsteps. I admire your intelligence, diligence, dedication and hard-work. You are resilient and I am awestruck by your strength especially during the course of the last few months. Graduates, you are an inspiration and today is a proud day for TCICC. I miss not being able to celebrate with you face to face at your annual commencement ceremony because world events have rendered that impossible, however, I want the Class of 2020 to know how extraordinarily proud I am of them. The virtual celebration is our expression of love and hope for our graduates at a time when we could all use a lot more of both. As Minister of Education, I warmly congratulate each one of you on your graduation and I am deeply sorry that I cannot, at this time, celebrate in person with you and your families to mark your wonderful achievements. Congratulations, amazingly adaptive Class of 2020! You have met the test of global citizenship in a remarkable and albeit unexpected fashion. Well done. You ended strong no matter what obstacles confronted you. Respectfully Yours,

THE CHAIRMAN, TCICC BOARD OF GOVERNORS

Mr. Keno Forbes, BSc, M.M

Celebrating this 25th Commencement Exercise, as Chairman, on behalf of the Board of Governors, I extend congratulations to the graduating Class of 2020, we are extremely proud of your achievements. We must recognize and congratulate the President Dr. Fulford, Vice President Mr. Samuel Forbes, the faculty and staff for their hard work and commitment to the

TCICC and by extension the Turks and Caicos Islands. 2020 has been a year of unprecedented changes and challenges and today your presence and the fact that this event is still being held is a testament of your strength and fortitude to overcome obstacles and TCICC unwavering commitment and dedication to the educational advancement of the people of the Turks and Caicos Islands. Daring to Aspire and determined to succeed the Turks and Caicos Islands Community College is committed to weather this global pandemic not by reactive planning but by a proactive approach and response to global changes. Prior to Covid-19 the TCICC was aggressively working on an eLearning platform to service the people of the Turks and Caicos Islands. Thanks to this forward thinking our students did not miss any classes and as a result they are graduating today as planned. I would like to especial ly recognize and applaud the eLearning taskforce headed by Dr. Candice Williams, and Mr. Barnes with Mr. Reid providing Technical Support. As we celebrate our 25th Commencement under the theme "TCICC empowering people: Resilience through ICT. A wise man once said “incredible change happens in your life when you decide to take control of what you do have power over instead of craving control over what you don't”, this is the essence of true empowerment it starts with you making the necessary decisions supported by behavioural changes. At TCICC it is our commitment to grow and adjust with the times, to ensure we provide relevant, effective, innovative solutions to meet the growing demands of our “Beautiful by Nature” Turks and Caicos Islands. What does Resilience have to do with it ? One may ask. To activate resilience in the face of adversity, consistently, is a skill that has to be developed. If you can apply resilience, you’ll be far stronger in every way because of it and able to face and pass any test on this journey and amazing gift called life and come out happier and stronger because of it. A resilient mindset focuses on the solution and not the problem. Focusing on the problem says cancel graduation because of Covid-19, the resilient mind says no let’s be innovative and have it virtually so what if its never been done before; let’s do it anyway. Resilience finds away to make the impossible, possible. Graduates as you are logged in sitting in your living rooms surrounded by family and friends or even if you are celebrating this moment alone. I want to express how proud I am of you and this major milestone you have achieved. 2020 dealt you some difficult challenges but you have proven nothing can stop a strong bright resilient mind. Congratulation!!! You have done what seemed impossible. After today, your life will start anew, but not for the last time. It will be one of many meaningful periods in your life. It is your choice in values and character that will decide your dreams, how you use your talents, and whose lives you will improve. Write your vision and purpose for your life and stick it on your mirror or as a screensaver on smartphones and tablets. For without vision a people perish Proverbs 29:18. The world as we know it has changed and this presents great opportunities for you to utilize skills and abilities. The world needs you; Turks and Caicos needs you at your best. Make your life count leave a legacy and a path for others. What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. It is what difference we have made to the lives of others that will determine the significance of the life we lead. – Nelson Mandela Congratulations and best wishes again to the graduating Class of 2020, parents, well-wishers the faculty and staff and Board of Governors for another successful year. May God continue to bless you and bless the Turks and Caicos Islands.

MESSAGE FROM

THE PRESIDENT

Dr. Hubert A. Fulford

Graduating Class of 2020, it is with thankfulness to God, and in celebration of your relentlessness, that I greet you as you close this unprecedented chapter of your educational life. Marked by a myriad of challenges, successfully you pursued your goals, undeterred by the maladies of life.

As you have now become the newest inductees into the Hall of Fame of the Turks and Caicos Islands Community College, we are proud to call you alumni; a name you have earned. Congratulations!

The entire family of TCICC joins me as together we celebrate with you, though keenly conscious of the uniqueness of this moment, and the serious impact that the COVID-19 Pandemic has had on your studies, even on your life. You have, by far, been most constrained by life’s challenges, and I believe that as a class, you have been called “for such a time as this”. And despite the challenges and disruptions to life, and the changes in the “taken for granted things”, you advanced with hope and optimism. And like the old Negro Spiritual, “you kept an inchin’ -along”.

Therefore, my young brothers and sisters, instead of wondering why this has happened during your tenure at TCICC, ask yourselves, what is so special about you, that you have been endowed with such strength and fortitude to forge forward like you did. Again, ask yourselves, what made you so bold? What gave you such hope? Then remember to ask yourselves, what gifts are you collectively bringing to this world that the world has never before had? Then, after pondering the whats and whys, consider this thought, with all that I encountered, what is the life I should now live?

So, at this milestone, on this momentous occasion, I greet you with mixed emotions of happiness and humility when I recognize that some of you are the aspirations, dreams and sacrifices of entire families. For you are, indeed, the trailblazers and path-makers for others within your communities who can now believe, like you, that everything is possible.

You, the Class of 2020, embody everything that TCICC represents. You have shown that setbacks only allow for a greater come back. I am still amazed when I think of what you endured; but held on to the motto of our College and continued to dare to aspire and, with determination you succeeded. You are the reasons why your Administrators and Staff persevered under extremely difficult circumstances and adjusted their personal and professional lives to ensure that your learning was not compromised. You are the reason that TCICC continues to break new grounds in education.

Celebrate this day with enthusiasm; remember to thank those who stood by your side, those on whose shoulders you stood when the waters of life rose high; those for whom your achievement is the apex of their sacrifice. And now, let all who come behind you find you faithful!

Change the world, make it a better place! May God continue to bless you.

DARING TO ASPIRE, DETERMINED TO SUCCEED!

Your President,

Dr. Hubert A. Fulford

MESSAGE FROM

THE VICE PRESIDENT

Mr. Samuel E. Forbes, M. Ed

It is with much satisfaction and honour that I congratulate the 2020 graduates of the Turks and Caicos Islands Community College. This year, 2020 has been to date an unexpected extraordinary one, for the entire universe. Therefore, being able to celebrate with gratitude, your accomplishments is warranted. Since March of this year, COVID-19 has presented many extraordinary challenges, tests and uncertainties. Even though we are still in the midst of the pandemic, with God’s grace and our resilience, you have reached this milestone and accomplished this achievement. So celebrating can not be over emphasized. Many of you graduates have faced many challenges during these unprecedented times, but with your constant focus on your goals you lived t he moto of our institution “Daring to aspire, Determined to Succeed”, and you persevered. The realities of COVID-19, though threatened our existence, the administration and staff of the TCICC confronted the challenges and utilized the opportunities to be creative and innovative and remained current, with your success in mind. So, together we celebrate this milestone. The pandemic is just another indication that life will present with many challenges, however, our hope is that your experiences at the TCICC have equipped you with the ability and where-with-all to create something positive out of any unprecedented circumstance. Remember too, that learning does not stop inside the classroom, and as long as life exists there are opportunities to learn new things and obtain new skills so as to combat life’s challenges. One writer puts it this way, “At this stage of your life, it is very important that you take charge of your future, not to feel like you’re a victim of circumstance or fate, but that you are an active participant in your future. Where you choose to focus your time and energy will directly impact what comes to you late in life.” So graduates, while I congratulate you for your achievements, and applaud your efforts through these difficult times, it is my prayer that you remain steadfast and continue working with “Perseverance, commitment and enjoyment.” God Bless you all.

MESSAGE FROM

THE DEAN OF ACADEMIC AND STUDENT AFFAIRS

Mube J. O. Mubenwfor, PhD, ThD. Dear Class of 2020, on behalf of our Faculty and staff members, I recognize you, and wish you hearty congratulations on your graduation! There are few milestones in life that can be compared to the momentous celebration of a college commencement, that recognizes your hard work and achievements. We note the rigor and diligence required for you to earn your degree. You have endured one of the most unprecedented adversities in our history caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. You have persisted, despite all the odds of this global pandemic! You have taken this crisis to task with equity and education in mind. I am immensely proud now of your resilience, ingenuity, adaptability and compassion, and of the work that you will continue to do. One of the hardest decisions of the Graduation Committee, was that of transitioning our commencement into a virtual event. Due to the ongoing health concerns of COVID-19, it is not possible to hold an in-person convocation ceremony, which majority of our graduating class would want. We understand and feel the same disappointment that many of you are experiencing for not being able to participate in a face-to-face commencement ceremony. But your well-being and the safety of your friends and family have always been at top of our minds. However, COVID-19 will not stop us from celebrating you. We want to honor you in the best way we can despite the difficult circumstances. You will be awarded your degrees through a virtual commencement which will incorporate the core elements of a Convocation ceremony and will meet the legal requirements for our President to confer degrees for all graduates. You should be very proud of your academic achievement as well as your flexibility, resilience and determination during the past months to online learning in order to complete your degrees. We are extremely proud that you have worked hard and dedicated much forth into your studies. We sincerely commend you for quickly adapting to and facing unexpected challenges and unprecedented. On behalf of the TCICC family, I offer my sincerest congratulations and gratitude to your family members for their moral and financial support, as well as their patience, understanding and sacrifices, during your challenging, but rewarding, years at TCICC. From our noble beginning, we have produced graduates from many regions, who are playing supporting roles as well as helping to driving societies forward in various ways. We are sure that you will build upon our excellent reputation and represent TCICC as worthy ambassadors. To ALL of you, congratulations again; Thank you for your steadfastness and perseverance! The entire TCICC family is truly proud of every one of you. Please take care. Stay safe and connected!

Dr. Mube J. O. Mubenwfor

SANDRA TELFORT My journey at TCICC is one I will always cherish. I appreciate all the amazing Lecturers who taught me and the friendships I made along the way. TCICC made it possible for me to further my studies at Northumbria University studying BA(HONS) Business with Marketing Management.

It is the inevitable result of Committing, Planning, focusing your energy and being fueled by your passion.” ~Paul J Meyer DASHANTA MORRIS “Through it all, never lose focus on the Prize but fight the good fight of Faith” (Her own words) ROYNICKSON JACQUES “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” ~Nelson Mandela JINO REMY “The past is history, the future is a mystery, but today is a gift. That is why it is called the present!” Alice Morse Earle TANIA GERMAIN My journey at TCICC was an experiential moment that I will never forget, as I got to “kick it” one last time with my friends from high school, who were at College with me. However, what looks like the end is only the beginning. DAHANDA PLUVOISE “You are educated. Your certification is in your degree. You may think of it as the ticket to the good life. At the TCICC, I’ve learned about the fundamentals of computers,

their architecture, the mathematical aspect and most importantly the

development of such complex machinery. I also thank the TCICC

for helping me develop my social skills and meeting all sorts of

diversity within the campuses. Thank you so much for leading me on my journey to self-development

and success.

CIERRA GARLAND

Three (3) years ago I had decided after completing my Associates Degree to move forward and begin a new

journey in pursuing my Bachelor’s Degree in Finance. It was such a tough decision to make not knowing how financially stable I would be to even continue such a

journey. Me being a young mother, I found motivation and was very determined to get what I wanted. I stumbled and fell many times, and I went through a stage where I wanted to quit, but nothing beats failure but a try! With that being said, with the help of my lecturers, classmates and my

personal self-esteem I managed to pass all my courses and I thank God for giving me such a great opportunity once

again academically.

My advice to students, especially young mothers like myself, it’s not too late! You still have a chance. Take that chance and you’ll fly higher than an eagle ever did. Trust

God and he shall help you through!
