Dear Parents and Guardians,
Yesterday, we recognised the important work of our volunteers in a special Liturgy. I realise not all of our volunteers could join us due to work commitments etc. Please know that all parent volunteers are valued by our staff. Thank you for the wonderful work you do with our students!
National Sorry Day – 26 May This Friday 26 May is National Sorry Day. This is an important day for our country and one that I hope is never overlooked. Australia's history, good and bad, must be acknowledged, remembered and taught so future generations learn from our past. This year commemorates the 20th Anniversary of the 'Bringing them home' report, which confirmed the large scale removal of Aboriginal children from their families. It is a hurtful memory for both indigenous and non-indigenous Australians and I truly hope on Friday we stop and remember the mistakes of the past that should never be repeated.
Technology Working Party Eager members of our staff team have formed a Technology Working Party in order to provide our school with direction in this vital area.
There are two main priorities for the working party: 1. Provide strategic direction for the school in purchasing new equipment 2. Develop a plan for renewing technology resources.
I look forward to working collaboratively with this team as they strive to provide our community with guidance in the ever changing contemporary education landscape.
National Simultaneous Storytime Yesterday, was a real treat for our students. Under the creative direction of Mrs Lucas, the story, 'The Cow Tripped over the Moon' came alive! Upper school students acted out the story for our P-3 students just after lunch and for Year 4-6 after Snack.
I was very proud of our school yesterday. Each person involved did their part in highlighting the importance of reading every day!
School Funding Misconceptions Parents, I am concerned about recent media reports stating that Catholic school fees will incur a major increase. This simply is not true. Please be reassured, I am committed to making Catholic education at Guardian Angels affordable. Attached to today’s newsletter is a Funding Letter sent to all parents and caregivers from our Executive Director, Pam Betts. I encourage you to read this letter which hopefully will provide clarity and balance to recent media reports.
NCCD Information All government and non-government schools in Australia are required to participate in the annual National Consistent Collection of Data (NCCD) on school students with a disability. This will occur at Guardian Angels at the end of July. An explanation of the data collection process is outlined in an attached information sheet for parents and carers. Parents/Guardians wishing their student's details not be included in the NCCD collection are to advise the school in writing by Friday 16th June 2017.
Have a lovely week
Craig

APRE News
National Simultaneous Storytime Yesterday our students participated in a retelling and enactment of the book “The Cow Tripped over the Moon”. National Simultaneous Storytime is an important annual campaign that aims to encourage more young Australians to read and enjoy books. Now in its 17th successful year it is a colourful, vibrant, fun event that aims to promote the value of reading and literacy using an Australian children's book that explores age appropriate themes, and addresses key learning areas of the National Curriculum for P to 6 and the pre-school Early Learning Years Framework. Each year a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres, family homes, bookshops and many other places around the country. National Simultaneous Storytime aims to: promote the value of reading and literacy; promote the value and fun of books; promote an Australian writer and publisher; promote storytime activities in public libraries
and communities around the country; provide opportunities to involve parents,
grandparents, the media and others to participate in and enjoy the occasion.
Thanks to all those staff and students who brought this year’s book to life for our students. Free Dress Day A reminder about the free dress day which will take place next Thursday 1 June to raise money towards purchasing ingredients for the Sweets Stall at this year’s Fete. Students are asked to bring a $2 donation in lieu of being asked to bring along ingredients for sweets making in the weeks leading up to the Fete. State of Origin The first State of Origin match will be played next Wednesday. Students may wear maroon to school to support the QLD team. Have a wonderful week everyone. Dawn Morrissey

Ascension of the Lord This Sunday 28 May we celebrate the Ascension of Jesus into heaven. The Ascension is one of the great feasts of the Christian liturgical year, and commemorates the bodily ascension of Jesus into heaven. The Ascension is officially celebrated on a Thursday, the fortieth day from Easter Sunday. On
this day, we remember that Jesus left us, in glory, to be with God the Father, yet He is still with us and he promises to be with us until the end of time. Whole School Mass
Next Tuesday 30 May at 9am we will gather as a whole school in the Mount Carmel Shed to celebrate Mass. At this Mass we will remember the feast of Pentecost.
All parents, grandparents and other family members are very welcome to join us. Hope to see you there! Virtue
This fortnight each class will be looking at the virtue of Trust. Trust is believing in someone or something. It is having confidence that the right thing will happen without trying to
control it or make it happen. Trust is being sure, down deep, that there is some good in everything that happens. When we are practising trust we: Believe that there is some good in everything
that happens Look for the gift or lesson in painful experiences Let trust take away our fears Know that our best is good enough Trust others unless we have good reasons not
too Don’t nag, worry, or try to take control
Prayer Find new ways to spread the word of God to every corner of the world.
Pope Francis Blessings for the coming week, Debbie Young

On Tuesday our Year Four to Six students were treated to a captivating Japanese musical performance by a talented duo touring from Melbourne. The one-hour taiko drum and shakuhachi flute performance was met with great enthusiasm, laughter and engagement. Many students were able to try their hand at the traditional taiko drumming and have a giggle at the teachers’ efforts…
