GSSA Members, Our 2015 GSSA annual meeting and banquet was a huge success. Thank you members for all the donations and support. We raised over $15K for GSSA and can now begin further promotion of the breed we all raise. Our Board of Directors and Officers recently made a decision we feel can help not only our current members but hopefully future members. This year our main project to promote SimGenetics will be presenting programs at local cattlemen’s chapter meetings. We feel this will be educational for the purebred cattle producer; as well as, the commercial cattlemen. SimGenetics are known for their ability to produce a more uniform calf crop. Maximizing profit is clearly a necessity in any beef herd. Adding SimGenetics to a crossbred herd provides superior performance, efficiency and positive carcass traits. Add some Hybrid Vigor to your herd! Come join us around the state at a local chapter meeting and find out ways to improve your herd. Thank you consignors and buyers for a successful sale. Please join us next year for another great event.

Our annual banquet and meeting was held the night before the sale in ILA, GA at the ILA Restaurant. This annual event is a time to fellowship with fellow members and to recognize outstanding GSSA members. There were approximately 100 members present at the meeting this year and our annual auction was a huge success. Our auctioneer for this year’s event was Mr. Stacy Britt. Thank you Stacy for not only auctioneering for our association but for entertaining us while generating over $15K. These donations will help our association promote SimGenetics throughout the year and provide information to you our GSSA members. This year we added a cake auction to raise money for our juniors (thanks Dwight for this suggestion). The cake auction raised $1,883 for GJSA.

Enjoy your fall and all of the upcoming events GSSA is participating in. If you ever have a question or concern please do not hesitate to contact me. Take Care, May God Bless you all!Donna PriestGSSA [email protected](770) 655-8133

As we prepare for upcoming Fall Bull & Female sales our association has elected to promote SimGenetics by sponsoring local cattlemen meetings across our great state. GSSA will be presenting programs targeting not only our purebred Simmental breeders, but also our crossbred cattle producers. Simmental Genetics are in high demand and we as producers are continuing to spread the word to all cattlemen of how adding SimGenetics to your herd can produce a positive impact.

*Two cattlemen meetings have already been scheduled* (anyone can attend these meetings. You do not have to be a member of the different chapters, just make sure to RSVP for a meal head count. Our sponsorship pays a portion of the meal cost and the attendee will have a portion to pay.)

*October 6*, Wilkes County Young Farmers Association, McGill-Woodruff Ag Center, Washington, Ga. RSVP required by October 2nd. Contact Eric Holton,706-990-9073.

January 14,2016, Red Carpet Cattlemen’s Association Meeting, Gordon Co. Agricultural Service Center, 1282 Hwy 53 Spur, SW, Calhoun, GA. RSVP required by January 12. Contact Darlene Tierce, 706-280-9097.

  • GSSA Sponsors local Cattlemen’s Meetings Around the State

The Georgia Simmental-Simbrah Association held a Commercial Catteman’s Symposium in conjuctionWith the Wilkes County Young Farmer’s Association on October 6th at the McGill-Woodruff Ag CenterIn Washington, GA. Eric Holton, Wilkes County Young Farmer teacher, and his cooking committee Prepared a delicious steak supper for the 80 cattleman who attended including several GSSA members.

Todd Alford, GSSA Vice-President, presented an excellent Presentation on utilizing Sim-Genetics in commercial cowHerds emphasizing EPD’s, Indexes and Crossbreeding.

In addition a demonstration on selecting bulls for structuralSoundness was done using several Simmental and SimAngusBulls. Todd emphasized proper slope to the front shoulder andRear legs that would contribute to how long you could expectA bull to remain sound and have a long, useful life in the Breeding pasture. This generated several questions from the Group. This event was an excellent event for GSSA to be a partOf and was well received by those present. Billy Moss
