Gruta da Lapinha – Parque Estadual do Sumidouro / Lagoa Santa The park occupies today a 2,005-hectare area that preserves the cultural and natural wealth from the region of Lagoa Santa and Pedro Leopoldo. Its importance is the protection of the archaeological heritage, speleological, paleontological, and a vast biodiversity. Sink part of the Parque Estadual do Sumidouro the Casa Fernão Dias, Mirante da Lapinha, Gruta da Lapinha, Gruta da Macumba, Gruta dos Túneis, Lagoa do Sumidouro, Fazenda do Sobrado and Quinta do Sumidouro. A Gruta da Lapinha Discovered by Peter W. Lund, in 1835, the Gruta da Lapinha is an international attraction, receiving tourists from various parts of Brazil and the world for its rich natural, cultural and historical beauty. The area for visitation is 511 meters long and 40 meters distributed in galleries and salons to the imagination with suggestive names such as: Salão Couve-flor; Salão da Catedral, Salão dos Índios, Sala da Cascata, Salão das Cortinas, entre outros. The cave fascinates by its beauty and the pleasant touch of adventure; visitation is easily accessible.

Gruta da Lapinha, through the Caves Circuit incorporates the Lund Line project, forming a tourism circuit by the karst region around the Minas Gerais state capital. It is also the gateway to the Sumidouro State Park, important by numerous archaeological sites, caves and rest areas for migratory birds.

"The wonderful landscape of these meadows had attracted, for a long time, attention of the first inhabitants of Brazil's wild nomads of the Caiapó tribe, I think, there fixed their residence and found shelter in caves;. under vaults of this imposing rock. Enthused by the beauty of the surrounding landscape, rehearsed to represent objects that gave them more insight. Lund Museum

Museu Peter Lund Peter Lund Museum Peter Lund Museum comprises the entire Sumidouro park, whose headquarters was built next to the Gruta da Lapinha. On site are gathered 82 fossils discovered by Lund in the 19th century during his research in the region of Lagoa Santa. The pieces were in the Natural History Museum of Denmark and were transferred to the state government for three years, in lending form.

The building that houses the headquarters of Peter Lund Museum has 1,850 m² and is a place to raise awareness of historical and cultural importance of the karst system in Lagoa Santa. Working hours: from Tuesday to Sunday from, 9:00 to 16:30.

After visiting the Gruta da Lapinha is possible to visit the tomb of Dr. Lund who is on the path of return to Belo
