    Company profile

    Tractors and Farm Equipment Limited (TAFE), a US $1.6

    billion tractor major incorporated in 1960 at Chennai, India.

    The third largest tractor manufacturer in the world and thesecond largest in India by volume.

    TAFE is part of the Amalgamations Group based at Chennai,

    comprising of 41 companies, and is one of India's largest light

    engineering groups.

    TAFE wields 24% market share of the domestic tractor

    industry, with a sale of over 148,000 tractors (domestic and

    international) for the year 2011-12. TAFEs partnership with

    AGCO Corporation and the Massey Ferguson brand for 52

    years, a first in the tractor industry, is a stellar example of

    TAFEs commitment to its values of building long-term

    relationships with its stakeholders, through fair and ethical

    business practices.

    Areas of business

    TAFE exports to over 77 countries, including developed

    countries in Europe and the Americas.

    Besides tractors, TAFE and its subsidiaries have diversebusiness interests in areas such as diesel engines, batteries,

    transmission components, panel instruments, engineering

    plastics, hydraulic pumps and cylinders, passenger vehicle

    distribution and plantations.

    Her carrier in Tafe started in year 1985 till now .

    A leader and strategist, recognized for professionalism, commitment

    to excellence and contribution to Indian Industry and Academia.

    Skillfully leveraged the companys resources and competencies to

    increase TAFEs revenues from US$ 20 million in 1985 to US$ 1.6

    billion in the year 2012. TAFE is now among the three largest

    tractor manufacturers in the world.

    The Early Years of TAFE The Amalgamations Group entered the tractor business in

    1960.

    Simpson & Company was already making Perkins DieselEngines and the founder chairman of the group,

    Mr.Anantharamakrishnan's own great interest in agriculture

    and the Green Revolution in making, made the group grab the

    opportunity to make tractors when it presented itself.

    On December 15, 1960, Mr. S. Anantharamakrishnan

    announced at a press conference at Chennai, his plans to

    manufacture tractors and implements at Simpson's Industrial

    Estate in collaboration with Massey Ferguson of Toronto.

    At that time, the estimated demand for tractors in India was12000 tractors per year and TAFE was allocated a capacity of

    7000 tractors a year.

    Initially 50% of the tractor was built with indigenous content

    but within two years this rose to 85%.

    From these early beginnings, company have risen to a turnover

    of US $1.6 billion and a sale of over 148,000 tractors

    (domestic and international) in the year 2011-2012, apart from

    the distinction of being India's largest exporter of tractors

    consecutively for the last three years.

    Overseas establishment

    TAFE's first overseas plant went on stream in September 2010, at

    Manisa, Turkey.
