Performing ArtsAges 6 to 17

ACT Musical Performance & Dance IntensiveSummer is the perfect time to prepare for upcoming auditions for school plays. The class will include vocal and acting work and dance combos. Learn proper audition technique and how to choose the proper song as well as monologues and scene work. Also learn new musical theater dance combos which help in nailing dance auditions. This is a great opportunity for all young actors to prepare for the upcoming theatrical season’s auditions.

ACT Jr. Musical Performance & DanceIn this theatrical performance program, we will start off with warm up vocal exercises, and move on to learning about generational and theatrical musical performance and proper singing technique and stylization. Then, we get moving to the beat working with our choreographer to create upbeat, contemporary dance moves that will complement our theatrical performance. Family and friends are invited to this upbeat performance on the last day of camp. Special Note: Jazz and tap shoes are strongly recommended for this program.

ACT Musical Theatre – Peter Pan, Jr.Join the cast of Peter Pan, Jr. where everyone is cast in this timeless musical. Developed for actors of all ages, there will be a strong emphasis on character development as each young actor progresses through our musical theatre journey. Young actors will incorporate our ACT “triple threat” program in acting, musical performance, and movement as they rehearse for their full length show on the last day of camp for family and friends.

ACT Advanced Dramatic Scene StudyThis two-week intensive program will focus on the breakdown of individual scenes in dramatic plays. We will concentrate on the development and study of characters, dramatic performance, and overall instruction in the performance of a scene. As this study is geared to the serious actor, previous acting training is required. A Showcase presentation of selected scenes will be performed on the final day for family and friends. Special Note: Class size is limited, so it is recommended to register early.

Welcome to Wagner College Summer Camps & Programs

On Camera ActingLearn the basics of on-camera acting. The camp will cover eye line, how to work in frame, volume, movement and close-up work. Also covered are the differences between stage acting, tv acting, commercial and film acting. This program is great for anyone interested in transitioning from theatre to camera and for those starting out in the business. No camera experience necessary!

S.T.E.M. Computers & TechnologyAges 5 to 17

Junior Video Game DesignThis camp was created especially for our video game enthusiasts with vivid imaginations. Working in age-appropriate software programs including Scratch, we will create an action adventure video game. Campers will learn to create a massive open world which they will be able to explore and navigate, while conquering and achieving various self-made tasks. They will be tasked to explore problem-solving techniques and story concepts while incorporating art and graphics as part of successful game design. Special Note: Students must bring a flash drive each day in order to save their work along with earbuds or headphones and notebook.

Create & Illustrate Your Very Own Children’s Book or Graphic NovelFuture writers and illustrators are invited to participate in this exciting workshop developing skills in visual literacy. Learn about plot, setting, dialogue, illustration, and composition. No prior experience is required. “Publish” your own book using a Mac Computer, and bring your writing to life with graphics, illustrations and an originally designed cover. Each book will be professionally bound. Please bring a USB flash drive to class.

Film MakingLights, Camera, Action! Discover the art of filmmaking. Campers will learn to write the script and create the storyboard for their own production. Young filmmakers will direct, operate a camera, record sound, and edit final product. Other areas of exploration will include editorial and narrative structure, rhythm and pace. Working in teams, groups will complete one short film. A screening of the final film for family and friends will conclude the program. Remember to bring your popcorn!

Virtual Reality 360 Film Making In this cutting edge course, students learn the process of VR and 360 immersive film making through hands-on lessons. Students will gain an understanding of the technology behind Virtual Reality, get familiar with the 360 camera landscape, the concept of immersive storytelling, and an overview of the 360 post-production process. Students will then plan out and get to work on their own 360 film. Specific focus will be given to choice of genre and storytelling, as it pertains to augmented reality film making. A screening of the final film for family and friends will conclude the program.

Photo Shop After EffectsLearn how motion graphic artists create 3D graphics! In this hands-on course, students learn how to animate graphics using Adobe After Effects. Starting with simple keyframe animations, students learn the basics of animating and learn more complex animation compositions though creative projects. Students will create an animated cartoon, an animated greeting card, animated titles, and learn how to pull a green screen key to make a composite image using layers, a technique used in film and television.

Green Screen Lego FlixBring Lego stop-motion animation to the next level! Students will design and build movie sets out of Legos, and transport them anywhere using green screen technology. Once students have their Lego world, they’ll bring it to life in movies students will storyboard, shoot, and voice-over in age appropriate groups. Note: All flix will be professionally edited and available for download within a month after camp ends.

Animation FlixAll new animations for 2019! In this fast paced class, students will be creating up to 4 stop motion movies. These will include dinosaurs, paper cartoons, white board, and a free choice day where students get to choose from playdoh, jewels, or items brought from home. Note: All flix will be professionally edited and available for download within a month after camp ends.

Engineering, Science, & Game PlayAges 5 to 14

Lego Robotics“We-Do” Lego RoboticsUsing special We-Do Lego Education Kits, kids learn hands-on about mechanical engineering, structural design, and introductory robotics. Working in teams, children will build their robots and discover scientific principles; using laptops, they will learn how to program their creations to move and make sounds. There will be “free-build” time when kids will become true “Imagineers,” using their creativity, problem-solving skills, and newfound knowledge to create a unique environment for their creation. Parents and friends are invited for a demonstration on the final day.

“WeDo 2.0” Lego RoboticsJoin this all new next generation of Lego WeDo Robotics! WeDo 2.0 project-based activities ignite students’ curiosity while enhancing their skills in science, technology, engineering and coding. Working in teams, children build confidence while navigating through life, physical, earth, and space sciences. The new hardware, software and wireless platform includes a Bluetooth low-energy Smarthub element, bringing the most up-to-date technological advancements to the experience. Students will build a Lego robot to investigate real-world science issues, learn programming skills to put their robot in motion and free-build to model the “environment” under investigation.

Lego Robotics Into OrbitGear up and get ready to explore the wonders of SPACE. From large craters to satellite dishes in orbit, help our LEGO astronauts safely navigate through SPACE in order to accomplish our goals. Students will enjoy an OUTER SPACE themed LEGO map where they must collaborate, problem solve, build and program their bots in order to complete various challenging missions. Create and customize your EV3 with the proper mechanics to travel safely back to base in a fun, creative and positive environment. At the end of the session, Lego Teams will compete in a Battle Bots tournament for family and friends This program is geared toward children on both an intermediate and advanced level.

CSI (Children’s Science Institute)Weeklong camps provide students with a fun educational experience and take-homes for further explorations. Tuition includes all materials fees and take-homes.

Who Dunit?Utilizing real world forensic science methods including fingerprint verification, fiber and liquid analysis and more, our summer sleuths will work together to solve a puzzling mystery while employing critical thinking skills and team work to discover “who dunnit?”

Making & Breaking BondsWhile investigating chemical reactions, students will learn about how new substances are formed and engineer experiments to cause different physical and chemical changes. Students also explore endothermic and exothermic reactions and will perform an engineering activity to design a device using an exothermic reaction.

Molecules in MotionHow does matter move from one phase to another? Students will examine the various states of change by conducting energy-based experiments to speed molecules up, or slow them down.

Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) Level IThis all new tabletop role playing game (RPG) puts the video screen aside, bringing players together in their self-created fantasy world where imagination and team play are essential elements of the game. Studies have shown that tabletop RPGs have significant education merit. At its core, D&D is an exercise in cooperative storytelling that involves decision making, invention, research, calculations, recursive math, problem solving, teamwork,

improvisation, negotiation, role play, creativity, and active spatial visualization, which can all help stimulate and nurture a child’s developing intellect and social skills.

Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) Level IIBuilding on what was learned and developed in D&D Level I, we will continue the story and provide players with a greater challenge than was introduced in the previous week. Players will need to utilize the skills learned in Level I and well as solid teamwork. New players are welcome if they are up to the challenge!

Fine Arts & EnrichmentAges 5–14

Junior Creative Art & LiteracyHaving fun, making new friends, and learning self-expression is what this class is all about. We will start by introducing art in a creative and fun way. Children will learn to express themselves through various art foundations, with an emphasis on literacy and art connections in a fun and supportive environment. Children will learn about different artists and techniques through in class readings and associated art projects. Bring a smock or old shirt and be prepared to tap your inner creative talents!

Adventures in ClayExpress oneself three-dimensionally by exploring the world of clay this summer. Learn basic hand-building techniques of pinch, coil, and slab, plus surface decoration and glazing basics. Most exciting are the projects campers will create that will spark individual expression by transforming clay into both functional objects and fanciful clay sculptures. Projects are fired at Wagner College in one of the few kilns available on Staten Island. No previous experience with clay required.

Visual Arts PotpourriSpark your imagination as we embark on a creative and artistic journey through a potpourri of subject matter, processes, mediums and techniques. Projects may include watercolor and silk painting, sculpture, paper making and marbling, bookmaking, mask making and mosaic. This creative journey will revolve around each young artist’s individual creative expressions combined with the elements of design and expressive techniques. New projects daily.

Barbie Adventure – All New!Young girls will love this Barbie camp where every girl is special, unique, and celebrated! We will begin by creating our very own Barbie who represents our goals, dreams and self image in

a positive environment where girls inspire each other. We will talk about our role models and be guided by their influence on the empowerment of young girls who are self-confident, resourceful, empathetic, and goal-driven. Activities will include role play acting out different careers, charades, crosswords, crafts, show and tell, teamwork, dress up and more in celebration of young girls becoming future successful young ladies just like their self-made Barbie!

Mindfulness Practice – All New!Research has proven that mindfulness increases attention and focus, reduces stress and anxiety, and increases well-being. In this program, students will learn specific methods of focusing on breathing, the body, internal thoughts and feelings, and the surrounding world. By observing thoughts and feelings, students will learn to choose the words and actions that can improve relationships, schoolwork, sports and many other activities to enhance their performance. Course is taught by Melissa Chen, M.A., RYT200. Special Note: First class is a mandatory parent orientation. Last class is a closing celebration.

Catholic High School Admissions Test (TACHS) PrepGet a jumpstart this summer and begin preparing for both the SHSAT and TACHS tests administered this coming fall. Our program is designed to focus on reading, language arts, mathematics, and reasoning skills. We will review test-taking strategies, run practice tests, and work on timing. Classes will resume on Saturdays in September with a continued focus on test-taking techniques and timing. Note: Students have the option of joining summer only or both summer and fall.

Teen Programs

Digital Photography This program offers a range of opportunities for teens to begin or further their knowledge of photography. Working in Wagner College’s state-of-the-art Mac lab with Wagner faculty Phil Mauro, students will learn both photo and Photoshop with an emphasis on presentation and portfolio development. Discover alternative techniques such as fine art abstraction and

painting with light. The program will conclude with a gallery type opening display of all students’ images that will include an abstract, still life, portrait and landscape. Please bring your own digital camera and flash drive daily.

Summer Pre-College Program for High School StudentsExperience Wagner College at our Summer Pre-College Program for rising high school juniors and seniors, and select sophomores, and earn up to six college credits in three short weeks. Our residential program will give students the opportunity to experience Wagner College first-hand by living on campus and participating in college-level courses that will earn them valuable college credits. Learn about our nationally recognized Wagner Plan for the Practical Liberal Arts by participating in “learning by doing” that reinforces course topics, and experience Manhattan venues as part of the learning experience. Trips may include museums, historical landmarks, Broadway shows, hospitals, and more. There are two program tracks to choose from. More detailed information, program brochure, and videos are available at wagner.edu/lifelong-learning/pre-college along with application forms. All applications are due by May 17.

Important Camp InformationCamp Schedules Several of our camps offer the option of either half or full day. When that option is indicated, half-day campers will attend their chosen camp program from 9 a.m. to 12 noon, at which time they will be dismissed to parents. Campers who choose the full-day option will remain at Wagner College until 4:30 p.m. dismissal. Full-day camps include lunch in the cafeteria and afternoon activities that may include arts and crafts, outdoor recreational games, computer lab, talent show, and more.

Early Bird Discount Register and pay in full by May 22, and receive a $25 discount per camper/per camp. Early bird discounts cannot be combined with course series discounts. Only one discount per camper/per camp is permitted. Early bird discounts can be arranged by phone at 718-390-3221, online at wagner.edu/lifelong-learning, or by mail-in registrations postmarked by May 22, 2019.

Payment Plans Payment plans can be arranged for campers attending multiple sessions. Please call our office at 718-390-3221 to schedule payments. Note that each camp must be paid in full prior to the start date, so call early to establish your payment plan.

How to Register Registration is convenient and can be completed online at wagner.edu/lifelong-learning, by mail using the registration form in this brochure and mailing to the address indicated or faxing to 718-390-3118, or by calling the Department for Lifelong Learning at 718-390-3221. You may visit us on campus at our new offices in House 5 located near the Guard Booth and our guest parking lot, near the main entrance to the College at Howard Avenue.

Camp Licensing and Medical Forms Wagner College Camps are licensed by the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene’s Bureau of Child Care (BCC), and as such follow strict guidelines set forth by the agency. Each child who attends our camps is required to submit a current Health Record form completed by a licensed physician and dated within one year of the last date of the camp the child is attending. No child will be permitted to attend camp without this current form on file at Wagner.

Waiver/Photo Release Form All campers are required to have on file a signed Waiver/Photo Release Form. By attending a Wagner College camp or program, it is understood that photos and videos may be taken of all participants. Wagner College reserves the right to use these photographs/videos in any of its print or electronic publications, web pages and/or social media outlets for promotion of its programs.

Cancellation All camps are subject to cancellation by Wagner College due to low enrollment or other unforeseen circumstances. In the event of cancellation by Wagner College, you will receive a full refund. Once a camp has begun, no refunds will be issued. Any cancellations made by campers prior to camp start date will be subject to a $50 cancellation fee per camper per camp session.
