If you think you know Hull think again…
The cobbled streets of the old
town, dominated by the beautiful
architecture of the buildings along
them, lead you back in time. The
old High Street is home to the
Museums Quarter offering a variety
of fascinating museums which form
part of Hull’s collection of eight free
museums. Here you will fi nd the
birthplace of our famous son William
Wilberforce as well as the Arctic
Corsair which was Hull’s last side
fi shing vessel or ‘side winder’ and the
Streetlife Museum of Transport – an
interactive and fascinating collection
of exhibitions housed on realistic
street scenes with experiences
including a “ride” in a horse drawn
carriage along cobbled streets.
A good way to discover the city is to
follow one of the many trails available.
The Fish Trail takes you to over 40
unique fi sh themed sculptures and
pavement engravings, or maybe the
Ale Trail can tempt you round the
historic Old Town visiting the many
pubs and bars?
Hull is also home to The Deep, the
world’s most spectacular aquarium.
Here you can see over 3,500 fi sh
including spectacular sharks and
rays! New exhibit for 2014 is a
colony of Gentoo Penguins. Literally
millions of visitors have fl ocked to
this award winning attraction and
have experienced one of the deepest
viewing tunnels in Europe and the
breath taking underwater lift as they
move from the tropical lagoon
to the icy polar tanks to view the
thousands of fi sh.
If shopping is up your aisle then
why not spend some time at St
Stephens, the Prospect Centre or
Princes Quay for all the high street
brands, alternatively you could
wander to the Old Town where,
along Whitefriargate, you will fi nd
high street names and independent
stores sitting side by side. Few
people know that Hepworth Arcade
is where Mr Marks and Mr Spencer
opened one of their fi rst penny
bazaars! You can now fi nd vintage
clothing, gift shops, jewellery and
joke shops.
No city would be complete without
a thriving nightlife so, aside from the
many bars, restaurants and nightclubs,
we also offer three theatres all with
a range of productions. Hull Truck
Theatre is now happily situated in its
new home and plays host to a variety
of comedy, drama and music. The
New Theatre continues to be one of
the UK’s premier touring venues and
features the best in musical, opera,
ballet and drama, with a highlight of
the year being the annual spectacular
Christmas pantomime. The City Hall
offers a varied programme of live
music from Moscow Philharmonic
and the Berlin Symphony Orchestra
to rock and pop.
Located on the banks of the Rivers Hull and Humber,
Hull is a vibrant waterfront city with a modern European
feel but one that is also proud of its rich heritage.

Beverley MinsterDiscover one of the most beautiful Gothic buildings in Europe.
Highlights of the Minster include;
• 68 misericords carved in the 16th-century;
• Saxon sanctuary chair;
• Percy tomb; this fourteenth century tomb with an ornate canopy is
considered to be the fi nest of its type in Europe.
• a large collection of medieval musician carvings in stone and wood.
Beverley Minster is the Parish Church of St. John and St. Martin. John,
Bishop of York, founded a monastery on the site where Beverley
Minster stands. John died in 721 and his body was buried in a chapel
of the Saxon church. He was canonised in 1037. The present church
was built around his tomb. Building work began in 1220 and was
completed in 1425. Throughout the Middle Ages miracles which took
place at his tomb attracted pilgrims from far and wide.
Admission is free. There are daily roof tours, including a
demonstration of the working medieval treadmill, and ground
tours. Both tours cost £5.00 each, with concessions for under
16 and last between 45-60 minutes. A combined tour is £7.00.
Further details are on the website.

beautiful medieval town is to follow
one of the self guided trails. The
Guilds and Crafts Trail comprises 40
beautifully crafted artworks each of
which depict the trades and guilds
that made Beverley one the richest
towns in medieval England.

streets and through charming
courtyards to discover a wealth
