Track The Granite Hills track and field team is still winning first but it is hard to get first overall. The boy track and field team is (unknown). The girls have a great team as well. The girl track players are (unknown). The track team had their highs and their lows. Some players are dedicated in track. D.J. winning the 100 was a little bit of a surprise because he banged up his legs in a motorcycle accident and yet he still raced. They com-pete with Monache high school and Porterville high school and beat them in some event like Boys 400 meters, Boys 800 meters, Girls 300-meter hurdles, and Boys 4x400 relay. I hope the track and field teams will do better next and beat Monache and Por-terville in all the events.

Tennis It’s been an exciting season for the Boys Tennis team. The Granite Hills boys tennis team has had three good matches against Caesar Chavez, Tulare, and Monache. The boys tennis team won 2 out 3 games which is very good. One of our tennis guys quoted about the games, “It was a close game, but we just happened to play with our heart,” said Varsity player Juan Jaimez. “We had already done it once and even though we were down we came up and defeated Ceasar Chavez.” The tennis team is giving everything they have and pushing forward until they get that win.

Golf The spring golf players this year were Francisco Lopez, Rigoberto Mexquititla, Ryan Rice, Junior Cervantes, Danny Jacuinde, Alan Smothermon, Alex Naciaceno, Antonio Mar-tinez, Fidel Andrade, Eduardo Cisnero. They had an amazing year and experience with the help of their coach Shelly Lozano. The boys golf has improved and there are high expectations Our overall record was 3 wins and 13 losses in the EYL. It may have been on a hole or two but it was still an accomplish-ment. Like the coach Shelly Lozano says real improvement was shown throw out the season, “We had seniors Rigoberto Mex-quititla, Alex Nacienceno, Eduardo Cisneros, Fidel Andrade, which will be a great loss to the Grizzly team. These guys were a great bunch of fun to be around and I can honestly say I will miss them. Francisco Lopez who played our number one spot most of the season and Ryan Rice at number 2 who was picked up half way through the season were great this season and look forward to build around these two for the next year’s team. Danny Jacuinde was a junior that appeared in 5 matches and look to have him around all season next year. Antonio Marti-nez was our lone sophomore and freshmen Junior Cervantes and Alan Smothermon show promise for next year as well.”

Softball The softball teams are doing a fundraiser by selling snacks after school hours. They’re not making too much but their making a fair amount. With Shawn as their coach they look like they are experts at the game. She has a technique that really works, mentioned some girls that she coached last year, who are now on JV or Varsity. These are some of the girls on the JV team this year that are familiar with this academy: Megan Carrazolez, Marisol Cerda, Emily Banuelos, Me-lissa Martinez, Christina Medina, and Bernice Tapia. This team has won 2 out of 5 games so far. That is pretty impressive do to the competion that have got from the previous High Schools. Even though we don’t have any spirits for the other schools we could see that they try hard like everyone else in Softball. The freshman have been learning so far how the game is sopposed to be played as the coached mentioned in our interview.Although the freshman softball team has not won one game this season they are improving because they have the ability to learn from there mistakes, as I have been abserving them recently. Eevn though this is their first year for some girls, that seems not to get in the way of them giving it their all. Freshman softball team have been fundraising for quit a while now, after school and during the games that are attending. So go and sopport your teamates aswell as your school by buying snacks and drinks during the games. Some positive things that coach Shawn said about the team was that they are a large group and the more the better. Also that they are coachable and really willing to learn for what they are striving or trying to achieve for themself.

Baseball The Varsity, J.V, and Freshman baseball teams held a fund-raiser to raise money for equipment and other supplies needed. The varsity coach Roberto De La Peña was in charge of the tick-et sale and running of the activities happening. The team had an overall good sale. They have a long season ahead of them and have time to get their heads in the game. Out of 11 games the Varsity has only won 2. But they still have time to get back up and change their score. The baseball players have been working hard during their practices. Coach Roberto De La Peña expects a lot from them for the rest of the season.

Swimming Since February the boys and girls have been training hard to prove their skill. They are looking tough and ready for swim-ming. The grizzlies met home against Tulare Western on Friday, March 20. They started the swim with 200 medley relay event. 4 competitors where required to swim 50 yards of an individual stroke consisting of backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, and free-style. Jorge arroyo started the event with a backstroke, followed by Jose Leon swimming breaststroke, Brad Stailey followed with the butterfly, and Dillon Anderson concluded, swimming free-style. These athletes swam the event in 2:24 and took second place. But that’s not all the Grizzlies also did well in their individ-ual events. Stailey took 3rd on the 50-yard freestyle followed by Anderson in 4th, and Arroyo in 5th. They swam the event un-der 30 seconds. Jose Leon swam the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:26 and took 3rd placeEven though the Grizzlies lost to Tulare only by few points away the athletes are confident about themselves. Jorge Arroyo said that their team have gotten faster since the beginning of the season and they will continue to drop their times by training harder every time.

Staff This experience of becoming part of the Sports Magazine for 2nd period class has been an amazing experience. Anyone can be put together as a group, but with hard work and dedica-tion that group can be more than just people put together to work. As the semester began it was hard at first to get everyone on track, but as the year went by everyone came together as a team and we were able to accomplish a well put together maga-zine. We became close over time and this made the work much easier. With everyone focused on what we needed to achieve in the end we got a good result. Even with some disagreements at times this was a really nice team to work with.
