High Frequency

What is High Frequency?In electrical engineering, “high frequency” refers to any frequen-cies above 10 kHz. In the case of power tools, however, this term generally refers to all power frequencies that are higher than standard power frequencies (50/60 Hz). A frequency of 300 Hz is the most popular for high cycle tools today. To operate these tools, special generators are needed to bring the power to the elevated frequency from 440 volt 3 phase (575 volt 3 phase Canada) to 200 volt 300 Hz. The high frequency tools are 3 phase squirrel cage induction type motors that do not require the normal wear parts.

High frequency – it’s simply better.What are the advantages of high frequency? The most important advantage lies in the constant speed and torque which provides more power. By increasing the frequency from 50/60 Hz to 300 Hz you increase the motor speed. The increased motor speed when used in conjunction with FEIN’s excellent gear reduction provides you with the ideal constant speed for work like heavy duty grind-ing. In addition, the motor’s output power rises directly propor-tional to the elevated frequency without adding weight or size: At 300 Hz, power increases five times because this frequency is five times as high as regular 50/60 Hz.

High Frequency

Frequency TransformersFEIN Frequency Transformers are designed to comply with pro-tection class IP 54 according to DIN 40 050 and have coils of insulation class F according to DIN VDE 0530. They are virtually maintenance free. The ball bearing maintenance interval is approxi-mated at 20,000 operational hours. The frequency transformers are easy to set up. The place of installation must only have unimpeded air supply and draw (maximum temperature +40 °C). We recom-mend installing power sizes 7.5 kVA and higher on rubber-metal buffers in order to minimize vibration during operation. FEIN KSR frequency transformers are asynchronous-synchronous frequency transformers. Even under load, output voltage deviates only a small amount (± 1%) from the set idle speed. The transformers are short-circuit proof. It is common practice to connect several KSR transformers of same types and sizes in series.
