Gator Girls Running Club

Written by: Angelina

In running club, we run around the hallways. Then when the weather is nice, we get to run outside. Before, we used to do 2 minutes walking and 1 minute running. Af-ter, we did 2 minutes running, 3 minutes walking. Now, we are doing 3 minutes run-ning, 2 minutes walking. We keep doing more and more running. We run two times a week, on Tuesday and Thursday, after school. When we finish running, I feel sweaty and hot, but also good, because I have done what I came for and I have reached my goal. On Thursday, we have an Intermediate or Junior talk. We switch every other week. We talk about what troubles us and how we feel about it. It’s good to tell some-body who understands you, how you feel, and what trouble you the most some-times. The ages for the running club are grades 4 to 8, but we only have grades 4s, 6s, and 8s. We have 4 teachers: Ms. Green, Mrs. Kanhai, Ms. Alvi, and Ms. Agnew. Other teachers will be joining us for our final run. The most fun thing is that on Saturday, May 7th, 2016, there will be a 5 km Women’s Run in Unionville. Greensborough’s Gator Girls Running Club will be participating. 11 of us have already signed up! It costs $45 to $50 each, but the money will go to the Markham Stouffville Hospi-tal for women’s mental health. It will be very fun and the money will go to a good use so we are very excited. We hope to see more people join us for our final run.

Grade 8 Graduation Grade 8 Graduation will be held on Tuesday, June 28, 2016. Please save the date in your calendar. Further details regarding time and place will follow.

It’s time to pause to PLAY April 18 – April 22, 2016!

Get ready to get active, eat healthy and stay safe! Children and youth are encouraged to put televi-sions, videogames and computers on pause for one full week. Instead try physically active, safe PLAY, eating healthy foods and other fun family or community activities. Take the challenge and see how much fun it can be! Stay tuned for more information coming home.

We need to get more active. Did you know that: -Only seven per cent of elementary school aged children get at least 60 minutes of heart pumping

exercise at least 6 days a week

-Boys and girls are inactive at least eight hours a day -Inactive lifestyles put children at risk for preventable health problems including Type 2 diabetes,

obesity and cardiovascular disease
