• Layout (The way in which parts of something are
arranged or laid)• On the Basis of Design
• Continuous Loop• Point to Point• Out and Back• Shunting
• On the Basis of Crossings• Square Crossings• Diamond Crossings• Cross Over• Cross Over• Scissor Crossing• Symmetrical Split
• Formation ( On which ballast, sleepers, rails and etc. are
laid) (Function, Design Aspect)
• Ballast (Layer of broken stones, gravels and etc.
around the sleepers for the distribution of load from sleepers to formation)
(Function, Types of Ballasts)• Cess
This is usually provided as a safe area for workers to stand in when trains approach.
LAYOUT OF RAILWAY TRACKS
• Preliminary Survey• Preparation of EIA report• Site Clearance• Earth Work• Drainage Work• Compaction of Subgrade and Sub-base• Preparation of Formation• Laying Ballast over the Well compacted
Formation• Provision of Sleepers over the Ballast• Laying Rails over the Sleepers with the
helps of Fasteners, Bolts, Chairs, Keys or Bearing plates depending upon the type of Rails.
CONSTRUCTION OF RAILWAY TRACKS
LAYOUT OF RAILWAY STATIONS• Passenger Terminal Building• Ticketing Hall and Passenger Information• Platforms
Pedestrian Bridge Side Platform Station
Island Platform Station Elevated Station with Side Platforms Elevated station with Ticket Hall
below Platform• Bridges and Subways• Light House• Goods Storage• Marshaling Yards• Locomotive YardsCONSTRUCTION OF RAILWAY STATIONS
• Like all other Construction PTB and other structures are constructed on conventional practice.
• Steel structures are mainly used in Bridges, Platforms, Roofing and etc.
RECOMMENDATIONSIf we provide vegetation on the roof of the train it’d act as anti –air pollutants.Regular inspection of Railway tracks should be made.Green belts should be provided beside track. This’d also help in reducing pollution. For Safety purpose Fence Walls should be provided around railway stations.

LAYOUT AND CONSTRUCTION OF RAILWAY TRACKS AND STATIONS
• Sleepers To provide transverse support to rail tracks and to
provide stiffness (Function, Types)
• Rails It is an Iron Beam to provide smooth, economical
and level surface for smooth passage of loaded vehicles at great speed.
(Function, Types)• Gauges
It is the distance between inner sides of the two parallel rails.
• Fastenings Use to connect rails and sleepers to form the
track. Types
