Greenpath Energy is a Sri Lankan company that specializes in LEEDCertification, Building Simulation, and Energy Efficiency Review. The companyis headed by Nanda Abeysekera, a LEED Accredited Professional (LEED AP)with extensive experience working with LEED and energy efficiency projects inthe United States.

LEED CertificationLeadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) is a green building certificationawarded by the US Green Building Council. The LEED rating system considers a verydiverse range of factors in the certification process, and obtaining a LEED Certificationfor your building or facility is a clear demonstration that the certified building or facilityhas proven itself to be well ahead of others in terms of sustainability and reducedenvironmental impact. This can be used as a valuable marketing tool to put yourselfahead of your competition. The LEED process also stresses energy and waterefficiency in building design, which can lead to substantial savings in electricity and

water costs over the lifespan of the project, and ensures a higher standard of indoorenvironment, which can lead to greatly improved productivity.

Several buildings and factories in Sri Lanka have already been granted LEEDcertification and many others are in the certification process Please see the US GreenBuilding Council website (www.usgbc.org) for more information regarding the benefitsof the LEED certification process and how it can work for you.

Building SimulationGreenpath Energy has the ability to carry out a sophisticated computer simulation of abuilding prior to construction. Using the latest building simulation software, a completemodel of a proposed building design can be constructed and simulated. The simulation

process takes into account building construction, building energy loads such as coolingand lighting, ambient weather conditions, desired conditions within the building, equipment efficiencies and part-load curves, building occupancy, and a wide range ofother factors. Once the computer simulation of the building is complete, the simulationresults make it easy to quickly zero in on which design elements could be bestimproved.

Energy Efficiency ReviewThe best and most cost-effective time to improve the energy efficiency of a building or facility is during the early design phase. Making changes to building design duringconstruction or post-occupancy can be extremely costly and disruptive to plannedschedules. Keeping this in mind, Greenpath Energy can carry out an energy efficiencyfocused review of a building during early design stages in order to find the best ways ofreducing future utility costs. Since high-efficiency building components typicallyrequire a small additional investment, the review should ideally be carried out togetherwith a building simulation. Improvements to building energy efficiency will be suggested

following the design review, and if any additional investment is required the cost-effectiveness of these improvements will be calculated through the building simulation.Often, a small additional investment during the construction process will lead to largesavings in electricity bills over the lifetime of the building, adding up to a savings manytimes that of the required initial investment.
