COMING TO AMERICA In 2001, Engin Kaplan emigrated from Turkey to the United States to pursue the American Dream. After completing his internship in Tourism and Hospitality Management, and with less than $1,000 in his pocket, he was unsure of what the future had in store for him. Moving to San Diego in 2002, Kaplan immediately secured a job driving a pedicab 10 hours a day, 5-7 days a week. After months of saving every cent possible, studying the pedicab business, and building his plan, Kaplan launched his own pedicab company in 2005, shuttling tourists and business clientele around Downtown San Diego. Kaplan’s pedicabs were everywhere – and local residents as well as convention trade show businesses realized that they could promote their products and services via these “moving” billboards. Kaplan appreciated this additional revenue stream from pedicab advertising sales, but he wanted to eliminate the print and installation “middlemen.” In 2011, Kaplan established Green House Sign & Design, a 9,000 square foot commercial and wide format print operation providing one-stop graphics, printing & installation services. Green House handles everything from trade show displays and signs to banners and vehicle wraps. Kaplan also supports a wide array of media substrates including foam core, corrugated plastics, aluminum panels and virtually any vinyl material. COMING TO AMERICAIn 2001, Engin Kaplan emigrated from Turkey to the United States to pursue the American Dream. After months of saving every cent possible, studying the pedicab business, and building his plan, Kaplan launched his own pedicab company in 2005, shuttling tourists and business clientele around Downtown San Diego.

KICKING IT UP A NOTCHFast forward a few years and Kaplan had the good fortune to be introduced to Prepress Supply, Inc., one of the most trusted, well-respected and largest wide format equipment distributors in Southern California for more than two decades. During an Open House at Prepress, Kaplan witnessed the demonstration of the ColorPainter™ M-64s and was amazed at the printer’s speed. Although Kaplan’s initial intent was to purchase a latex printer to add to his printer fleet, he was mesmerized by the high-quality output and phenomenal speed of the M-64s and bought one on-the-spot.

Kaplan notes that the ColorPainter graphics quality and rich-color output is beyond comparison. “I’ve had issues with banding before, but the OKI ColorPainter is able to deliver impressive color saturation, crisp text and graphics – at speeds that are, in my opinion, 10x faster than competitive models,” confesses Kaplan.

Kaplan – and his customers – demand flawless output and the ColorPainter delivers. Besides its high-speed and vibrant graphics, Kaplan also notes that the ColorPainter changes ink “on-the-fly” – and continues printing without starting over and wasting media. Plus, with the ColorPainter’s industrial strength, it has the ability to “handle heavy media rolls that come off the printer straight and perfect with no adjustment needed – every time – making lamination a breeze,” states Kaplan.

A WISE INVESTMENT

When asked if the ColorPainter™ has increased Kaplan’s revenues, he admits that ROI is directly related to the use of the printer – but the good news is the M-64s is indestructible and extremely versatile. “In today’s competitive market, you need to diversify your product portfolio,” claims Kaplan. “When we’re not printing durable vehicle wraps, we’re using the device to print other indoor and outdoor applications. There is no downtime for our ColorPainter M-64s.”
