A Message from the Chairman of the Organizing Committee On behalf of the Short Course Organizing Committee, I would like to sincerely welcome you to this one day short course on “Green Building Assessment Methods”. We hope that this short course will help to provide a basic knowledge on various local and overseas green building assessment methods to the Building Services Engineers and related professionals. It is also common to adopt a performance based approach to demonstrate compliance on energy consumption as well as daylight performance in the process of green building certifications. Various commonly used simulation tools and methods are also introduced in this short course which we hope you will find this useful. I would like to take this opportunity to express sincere thanks to the Organizing Committee members, speakers, helpers and participants for their effort and contribution to make this one day short course very successful and meaningful. A Message from The Hong Kong Institution of Engineers Building Services Division On behalf of Building Services Division of The Hong Kong Institution of Engineers, I would like to express my sincere thanks to the support from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University Department of Building Services Engineering to jointly organize this one day short course. I would also like to thank the great effort from members of The Organizing Committee, speakers, helpers and you attending this short course to make this a very successful event. There are different types of green building assessment methods in the world. This short course will give you an overview of some of the methods and their special requirements including the one used in Hong Kong on BEAM Plus. A lot of these assessment methods require energy and daylight simulation, which will be included in the short course. An update on the latest development of Building Energy Codes will be presented. The main objective of this short course is not simply giving you an updated on the various green building assessment methods but to bring the awareness and application of more and more green methods in the design and construction of buildings so that we can have more sustainability development.
