The company CHALVADOPIIA OF NORTHERN GREECE carries on the tradition of the well-known family KAPETANIOS whose name is closely associated with halva.Its history began in 1928 in Assiros, Thessaloniki, and the company has shown impressive growth since then. The small workshop in Assiros quickly gave way to a manufacturing facility in Neapoli, Thessaloniki (1954) and was later transferred to a modern factory in Aghialos, Thessaloniki, (1978) equipped with state-of-the-art machinery. The Chios Mastiha Growers Association, based in Chios-Greece, is an agricultural cooperative founded in 1938. It has undertaken the exclusive management of natural Mastiha in Greece and abroad. The Association’s activity is principally export, since 60% of Chios Mastiha is forwarded to the international market and mainly to pharmaceutical, food and drink, but also chemical industries. Highlights• The Chios Gum Mastic Growers Association has been certified with ISO 9001:2000. Furthermore, it applies BRC system in all its production procedures.• Mastiha, Mastiha oil and ELMA chewing gum have been qualified as Protected Designation of Origin (P.D.O.) products.• In 2002, the Association founded MEDITERRA SA, with a view to create stores bearing the trademark mastihashop. The stores host a variety of mastiha products from Greece and the East Mediterranean.
