The thought of this verse is very easy to understand, and yet, very profound and powerful. We live in sad times. Sad, because so many are giving little heed to the Almighty’s powerful warn- ing and blessed promise. Solomon warns, “Whoso despiseth the word shall be destroyed.” This is a very serious warning that needs to be heeded by all. Paul sets forth a very simi- lar warning, “And to you that are afflicted rest with us, at the revelation of the Lord Jesus from heaven with the angels of his power in flaming fire, rendering venge- ance to them that know not God, and to them that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus: who shall suffer pun- ishment, even eternal destruction from the face of the Lord and from the glory of his might” (1 The. 1:7-9). There are far too many who do not have the proper attitude toward the word of God, and as a result, bring destruction upon themselves. We must heed the words of caution declared by Solomon, “He that keepeth the commandments keepeth his own soul; but he that despiseth his ways shall die” (Pro. 19:16). We do not have to be a rocket scientist to understand the need of abstaining from despising the word of God. On the “flip side” Solomon says, “He that feareth the commandment shall be rewarded.” This is a promise that all should hold dear and strive diligently to obtain. Concerning God’s word, the Psalmist said, “Moreover by them is thy servant warned: In keeping them there is great reward” (Psa 19:11). “Great peace have they (continued on next page)

REWARDS IN KEEPING

GOD'S COMMANDS By Tom Moore

“Whoso despiseth the word bringeth destruction on

himself; but he that feareth the commandments shall be rewarded” (Pro. 13:13). The thought of this verse is

very easy to understand, and yet, very profound and

powerful. We live in sad times. Sad, because so many

are giving little heed to the Almighty’s powerful warn-

ing and blessed promise.

Solomon warns, “Whoso despiseth the word shall

be destroyed.” This is a very serious warning that

needs to be heeded by all. Paul sets forth a very simi-

lar warning, “And to you that are afflicted rest with us,

at the revelation of the Lord Jesus from heaven with the

angels of his power in flaming fire, rendering venge-

ance to them that know not God, and to them that obey

not the gospel of our Lord Jesus: who shall suffer pun-

ishment, even eternal destruction from the face of the Lord and from the glory of his might” (1 The. 1:7-9).

There are far too many who do not have the proper

attitude toward the word of God, and as a result, bring

destruction upon themselves. We must heed the words

of caution declared by Solomon, “He that keepeth the

commandments keepeth his own soul; but he that despiseth his ways shall die” (Pro. 19:16). We do not

have to be a rocket scientist to understand the need of

abstaining from despising the word of God.

On the “flip side” Solomon says, “He that feareth the

commandment shall be rewarded.” This is a promise

that all should hold dear and strive diligently to obtain.

Concerning God’s word, the Psalmist said, “Moreover

by them is thy servant warned: In keeping them there is great reward” (Psa 19:11). “Great peace have they

THANK YOU NOTE Words cannot express the gratitude my family and I

have for this church family. The love and compassion

shown to us was truly reflective of Christians accord-

ing to His Word. Ladies the dinner was rated A-#1.

We love each and everyone of you.

that love thy law; And they have no occasion of stum-bling” (Psa. 119:165). How will we be rewarded in keeping

the commands of God? Solomon says, “The fear of the Lord

prolongeth days: but the years of the wicked shall be short-ened” (Pro. 10:27), and “Behold, the righteous shall be rec-

ompensed in the earth: much more the wicked and the sin-ner” (Pro. 11:31). There are benefits in this life to obeying

God, but the best benefits come in the next life.

Concerning receiving spiritual rewards, Paul says, “For I

am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of

God unto salvation to everyone that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek” (Gal. 1:16). Notice the words of

James, “Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of

naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save you soul” (Jam. 1:21). The re-

ward that will come to those who keep the commands of the

Lord is their eternal salvation. There can be no greater re-

ward!

We all have the choice of one of two attitudes towards

God's word: an attitude of obedience or an attitude of diso-

bedience. Which will you choose? The one that brings a

wonderful reward or the one that brings horrible destruc-

tion? The choice is yours. I pray that we all make the soul-

saving choice!

FROM THE BUTLER’S

OF THE WESTVIEW BOYS HOME Dear Park Heights Church, Elders, and friends,

Y’vonne and I cannot express how much love, support

and care for the boys that are in need of a home and loving
