    Flag Presentation (Pledge of Allegiance)

The Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America was ledby Most Illustrious Grand Master Jimmy V. Jones.

    The Pledge of Allegiance

I Pledge Allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to theRepublic for which it stands,

one Nation under God,indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

    ANNOUNCEMENT OF TIME FOR ELECTIONS

The Most Illustrious Grand Master announced that the Election of Officerswould be held at 11:00 AM.

REPORT OF THE GRAND MASTERSEPTEMBER 20, 2016, 3016 A. Dep.

To the Most Illustrious Grand Master, Officers and Companions of the Grand

Council, Royal And Select Masters of Kentucky:

To Cumberland Council #77 Royal and Select Masters, thank you for electing

me to membership almost 30 years ago. No one ever dreamed where this

journey would lead. The inspiration of the members, both present and those

that have passed on to the Celestial Lodge above has led me to this point in

my life. To Larry, Randall, and Charlie, for traveling with me these many

miles and the experiences we have shared.

To the Companions of Kentucky, in my travels around the state I have been

privileged to meet some of the most outstanding people I have met in my life.

I thank each of you for the hospitalities that have been extended to me.

Serving the Companions of Kentucky as Most Illustrious Grand Master has

truly been the highlight of my Masonic career.

To the companions of Morehead Council #45, Highlands York Rite College

#134, all of those who attended and participated in any way: “Thank you” for

the “All Council Day”. The All Council Day was well attended and 25

Companions received the Super Excellent Master’s Degree.

2016 PROCEEDINGS OF THE GRAND COUNCIL OF KENTUCKY R&SM

    16

To Past Most Illustrious Grand Masters’ Jimmy V. Jones, Raleigh Foster and

    D. Clint Durham, I want to thank each of you for the example that was set

before me as I advanced through the line. To Matthew H. Lewis, R.I.D.G.M.,

Thomas Wheeler, R.I.G.P.C.W. and Charles Durham, R.I.G.C. of G., we have

traveled many miles together and I know of the love that each of you hold for

the Grand Council of Royal and Select Masters of Kentucky. James King,

R.I.G. Recorder and J.B. Hitt, II., R.I.G. Treasurer, the work that is done on

behalf of the Grand Council by these Companions is outstanding. To the

appointed officers and Arch Deputies, thank you for all you have done and

continue to do for the Grand Council. I feel I have been well represented by

my appointments (Thanks Robert, Bobby, Kevil, Vernon and Bufford).

Robert Stanford, who accepted the position of Chief Arch Deputy at the death

of Companion Simonton, I want to say thank you. I would never be able to

thank everyone by name, because I would leave someone out who have been

both a help and a friend to me.

On November 22, 2015 Companion Stanley “Stan” Ralph Simonton, Past

Most Illustrious Grand Master passed to the celestial lodge above.

Companion Simonton was a friend, encourager and a mentor, always with a

positive word for the betterment of the fraternity. I feel my life has been

enriched by knowing Companion Simonton. He was serving as Chief Arch

Deputy at the time of his passing. Alas my brother!

M.I. Grand Master’s suggestions for future officers:

Keep the Ritualist Program and continue to recognize

those companions that are excelling in their work.

Revisit the inspection reports; is there a better way on

evaluating the companions other than a point system?

To my wonderful wife, first I want to say, “I love you” and I truly would not

have been able to have done this without you. Four years ago we decided we

would not take a regular vacation until this journey through the lines was

completed. We would just take mini vacations traveling around the state.

This has ended up in trips to Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, Tennessee and New

York. Brenda has been there for me, always encouraging the entire four

years. I know I have been blessed by God to have such a loving wife.

Report of the Necrology CommitteeSeptember 20, 2016, A. Dep. 3016

To the Most Illustrious Grand Master, Officers, and Companions of the GrandCouncil of Kentucky, Royal and Select Masters:

“In the midst of life we are in death,” we are taught both in the rituals ofFreemasonry and in the doctrines of our faith, but we know that the GreatArchitect of the Universe “will show us the path of life, and in his presence isthe fullness of glory, and that at his right hand there is pleasure for evermore.”Let each of us remember in a moment of silence those 46 Companions of thegrand jurisdiction of Kentucky who have departed from the circle of ourfellowship. Let us also remember their families and those closest to them inthis life.

We are particularly saddened as we remember Most Illustrious Past GrandMaster Stanley R. Simonton, who passed away on November 22, 2015. MostIllustrious Companion Simonton was also serving as Eminent Prior ofKentucky Priory No. 25, Knights of the York Cross of Honour.

We share in the loss of the Grand Chapter of Kentucky, Royal Arch Masonsub the passing of Most Excellent Companion Everett L. Parrish, Past GrandHigh Priest, who served the Grand Chapter as its presiding officer in 1989.

  • 2016 PROCEEDINGS OF THE GRAND COUNCIL OF KENTUCKY R&SM

    47

We also note with sadness the passing of Illustrious Companion R. B. Hooks,Jr. on August 28, 2016. He served with distinction as Right Eminent GrandCommander of the Grand Commandery of Knights Templar and as GrandChaplain Emeritus of the Grand Council of Kentucky.

These to whom we pay special tribute this day are not forgotten, neither by usin this moment, nor in eternity; for they rest in the arms of the Eternal Father.

Let us pray: Remember these your servants, O Lord and grant that they maygo from strength to strength in the life of perfect service in your heavenlykingdom. Bless them and keep them, make your face to shine upon them, andbe gracious unto them. May you ever lift up your countenance upon them andgive them peace, both now and forevermore. Amen.

    Companions,

As we start this 189th year of Cryptic Masonry in Kentucky, I am remindedof the words of our Principal Conductor of the Work, from the Royal Masterdegree, “We walk upon the ashes of the generations who have gone this waybefore us, to which our own ashes must in turn contribute.” ThoseCompanions who served Cryptic Masonry before us have left a legacy ofwhich we should all be proud. Now it's our turn to carry on this great andgood work. May our contributions be worthy of their memory and our efforts.

Thank you to all the Companions who have agreed to serve this GrandCouncil as Elected and Appointed Grand Officers, Committeemen, and GrandArch Deputies. Your hard work and dedication are sincerely appreciated, hasnot gone, and will not go unnoticed. Thank you also to our Most IllustriousPast Grand Masters who continue to serve the Grand Council and CrypticMasonry.

This year, we will continue to emphasize education in our Councils. Oureducation and recognition programs will also continue, with emphasis on theLecture Program and Ritualist Program. Each Council will be given twoOfficer Handbooks, which outline the Grand Council's programs, and provideeducational information. Official Visits will continue, with points nowavailable to Councils who make York Rite Presentations in Symbolic Lodges.I trust we can all work together to make our Councils, and our Grand Council,a little better than we found them.

May the Divine Architect of All guide us in our labors and preserve thisGrand Council.
