"ชื่อ" คําที่เป็นชื่อ คน , สัตว์ , สิ่งของ , สถานที, คุณสมบัติหรือคุณค่าต่าง แบ่งออกได้ 8 ชนิด คือ :- 1. Common Noun นามที่เป็นชื่อทั่วไปของ คน ,สัตว์ ,สิ ่งของ ,และสถานทีโดยไม่ได้ชี ้เฉพาะเจาะจง 2. Proper Noun นามที่เป็นชื่อเฉพาะของคน ,สัตว์ ,สิ ่งของ ,และสถานที3. Collective Noun นามที่เป็นชื่อของหมู ่คณะ ,ฝูง ,พวก ,กลุ่ม ปกติแล้วจะใช้รวมกับ Common Noun เสมอ โดยมี of มาคั ่น เช่น A flock of sheep is4. Material Noun "วัตถุนาม" ได้แก่ แร่ธาตุ โลหะ ของแข็ง ของเหล็ว นามจําพวกนี ้อยู่เป็นกลุ่มก้อน แสดงความมากน้อยด้วยปริมาณ ได้แก่ sugar ,bread, oil เมื่อต้องการทราบจํานวน ก็ให้ใช้ Common Noun มาประกอบ โดยมี of มาคั ่น. 5. Abstract Noun นามที่เป็นชื่อของสภาวะ สถานะ คุณลักษณะ หรือการกระทําของคน สัตว์ สิ ่งของต่าง 6. Noun Equivalent หมายถึง คําหรือหมู่คําใด ซึ ่งตามรูปลักษณะแล้วไม่ได้เป็นนามแต่นํามาใช้ทําหน้าที่เช่นเดียวกับนาม มีอยู่ 5 ชนิด Infinitive ได้แก่กริยาที่มี to นําหน้า Gerund ได้แก่กริยาที่เติม ing Adjective คุณศัพท์ นํามาใช้อย่างนามได้ แต่ต้องมี the นําหน้าทุกครั ้ง เช่นThe good should be praised. Phrase วลี เช่น I do not know what to say. 6.5 Clause อนุประโยค เช่น What he is doing now is difficult for us to know. 7. Compound Noun "นามผสม" 8. Agent Noun นามชนิดนี ้มีรูปมาจากกริยาหรือนาม โดยการเติมปัจจัย (suffix) er, or, ent, 2. Pronoun (pro.)
