    Graduate Coursework Scholarships 2012

    The Melbourne Scholarships Program aims to reward and provide access to a world classuniversity for the best Australian and international students. The following is a quick referenceguide to the scholarships available to local, international and travelling undergraduate students.Details are correct at time of printing.     Local StudentsAustralian Citizens, Australian PRs, NZ Citizens, and holders of Permanent Humanitarian Visas for Australia

    Graduate Access Bursaries www.services.unimelb.edu.au/scholarships/gradcoursework/local/access.html$5000 one-off payment inthe first year of enrolment.

    Number: up to200

    Eligible students must belong to one or more of the followingcategories: Recognition as an Indigenous Australian; Previous statusas a refugee or current holder of a Humanitarian Visa; Rural orisolated background; Disadvantaged socio-economic circumstances;Disability or chronic medical condition. In addition they must havedemonstrated the capacity to successfully undertake a graduateprofessional degree and apply for a Commonwealth Supported Place

    in a professional entry graduate degree.

    Maisie Fawcett Scholarships www.services.unimelb.edu.au/scholarships/gradcoursework/local/maisie.html$5000 one-off payment inthe first year of enrolment.

    Eligible students must have completed an undergraduate degree atVictoria University (priority will be given to students enrollingimmediately following undergraduate studies) andbe accepted into theGraduate Access Program. See criteria categories in the GraduateAccess Bursaries section above.

    How to Apply and Closing Date: Noscholarship application is required. All VUgraduates accepted into the GraduateAccess Program will automatically beconsidered by their graduate school.

    Eleanor and Joseph Wertheim Scholarships www.services.unimelb.edu.au/scholarships/wertheim.html$20,000 (approx.) annualallowance.

    Number:up to 3Applicants must be: an unmarried female, at least 25, be an Australiancitizen or hold an Australian permanent residency or permanenthumanitarian visa, currently enrolled or planning to enrol full time at the

    University of Melbourne with at least 12 months of full-time studyremaining in their current course. Applicants must be able todemonstrate socially and/or financially compelling circumstances andhave a strong academic record.

    Number:up to 3Applicants must be female and planning to enrol full time or becurrently enrolled (with at least 12 months of full-time study remainingin their current course) in a Social Sciences discipline at the Universityof Melbourne. Applicants must be able to demonstrate socially and/orfinancially compelling circumstances and have a strong academicrecord

    Indigenous Scholarships http://www.murrupbarak.unimelb.edu.au/The Melbourne Institute for Indigenous Development administers theIndigenous Scholarship Program which provides specific scholarshipssuch as housing bursaries, book vouchers, living costs and generalgrants. Applicants must: be able to demonstrate that they are anindigenous person of Australia and be able to demonstrate eligibilityfor the requirements of the scholarship.

    Future Generations Scholarshipshttp://www.services.unimelb.edu.au/scholarships/gradcoursework/local/future_gen_masters.html$7,500 one-off payment inthe first year of enrolment.

    The Future Generations Scholarships are awarded on academic meritto students admitted to specific graduate coursework programmes, towhom the award may make a difference in accepting the offer of a

    course place.

    How to Apply: No scholarship application isrequired. All graduates accepted into theGraduate Access Program will automatically

    be considered by their graduate school.

    InternationalStudents

    Citizens of countries other than Australia or New Zealand, and not Australian PRs

    International Postgraduate Coursework Awards(IPCA) www.services.unimelb.edu.au/scholarships/gradcoursework/international/ipca.html25% to 100% tuition feeremission.

    Number: dependent uponfunding.

    Students must receive an unconditional offer of a place in an approvedmasters program. Check the Melbourne Scholarships website for a fulllist of eligible courses.

    How to Apply: No application isnecessary. Selection is made by facultiesbased on academic merit. Successfulapplicants are emailed an offer at the startof semester.

    Asian Development Bank Japan Scholarships (ADB) www.services.unimelb.edu.au/scholarships/gradcoursework/international/adb.htmlAnnual $15,300 livingallowance, 100% tuitionfee remission, a returneconomy airfare, researchmaterials allowance andhealth cover.

    Eligible students must: be a citizen of an ADB member country, beenrolled in an approved course full-time, have at least 2 years full timework experience, be 35 years or under by closing date and return totheir country of citizenship at the end of their course.

    How to Apply: No scholarship applicationis necessary.

    Closing Date: Candidates must havereceived an unconditional offer of a courseplace by:31 August 2011 (for Semester 1, 2012)28 February 2012 (for Semester 2, 2012)

    Travelling ScholarshipsFor both local and international students unless otherwise specified

    Melbourne Global Scholarships www.services.unimelb.edu.au/scholarships/mg_scholarship.html$2,500 for more than12 weeks.

    $1000 for less than12 weeks.

    Eligible students must be receiving faculty credit for their overseas studyprogram, studying overseas full time, have a minimum 65% weightedgrade point average across their course and not have already received aMelbourne Global Scholarship or Grant. In addition, graduatecoursework students must have completed 37.5 points of their currentcourse.

    How to Apply: Exchange students areautomatically considered for thisscholarship. Students undertaking studyabroad and other credit bearing programsshould register online 6 weeks beforedeparture athttp://www.mobility.unimelb.edu.au/outbound/study-abroad/planning-study-abroad.html

    Melbourne Global Financial Assistance www.services.unimelb.edu.au/scholarships/financial_assis.htmlUp to $2,000one-offpayment.Amounts may vary

    depending on availablefunds.

    Applicants must be enrolled in the Melbourne Global Mobility ExchangeProgram, or a Study Abroad program of more than 12 weeks duration, orthe Capitol Hill Internship (USA) Program and not have already received

    Financial Assistance. All Round 1 Financial Assistance applicants will beconsidered for the Aitchison Travelling Scholarship (one scholarship isawarded based on financial need with consideration given to academicmerit. The value of this scholarship varies according to the fundingavailable but is usually approximately $6,000)..

    Sir Arthur Sims Travelling Scholarship http://cms.services.unimelb.edu.au/scholarships/pgrad/local/available/travelling/simsLiving allowance, tuitionfees (approx. $20,000 p/a).

    Number: This scholarshipis not available for 2012.

    Applicants must be a graduate of any Australian university, plan toundertake graduate studies or research in Great Britain, have been bornin Australia or have parents who have been Australian residents forseven years or more, with the period of their residence commencingwithin three years of the birth of their applicant.

    How to Apply: This scholarship is notavailable for 2012.

    W.E.J. Craig Travelling Scholarship http://cms.services.unimelb.edu.au/scholarships/pgrad/local/available/travelling/craigLiving allowance and/or

    tuition fees (approx.$60,000 p/a).

    Number: As funds permit.

    Applicants must: be a University of Melbourne graduate and plan to

    undertake graduate studies or research in animal husbandry at anoverseas institution.

    Applicants must: plan to undertake postgraduate study at HarvardUniversity, be citizens of Australia, have completed or are currentlystudying a degree at an Australian university and have spent at leasttwo of the last 4 years at university.
