SAFETY INFORMATION
During normal use, this radio will subject you toradio energy substantially below the level whereany kind of harm is reported.
¥ DO NOT hold the radio with the antenna veryclose to, or touching, exposed parts of thebody, especially face or eyes, whiletransmitting. The radio willperform best, if the microphoneis 5 to 8 cm away from the lipsand the radio is vertical.
¥ DO NOT hold the transmit(PTT) button in when not actually desiring totransmit.
¥ DO NOT allow children to play with any radioequipment containing a transmitter.
¥ DO NOT operate a transmitter near un-shielded electrical blasting caps or in anexplosive atmosphere unless using a radioapproved for the environment.
¥ DO NOT operate the radio with a headset orother audio accessories at high volumelevels. (Ear specialists advise against highvolume operation).
GENERAL RADIO CARE
¥ Avoid physical abuse of the radio such ascarrying it by the antenna.
¥ Wipe the battery contacts with a lint-free clothto remove dirt, grease, or other material whichmay prevent good electrical connections.
¥ The accessory connector is fitted with aprotective cap which should be left in placewhen the connector is not in use.
¥ Clean the radio exterior using a clothmoistened with water, mild dishwashing liquidor isopropyl alcohol.
Caution
The use of chemicals such as detergents,alcohol (except isopropyl), aerosol sprays,and/or petroleum products may be harmfulto and damage the radio housing.
¥ The use of non approved radio accessoriesmay damage the radio and invalidate thewarranty.

FITTING/REMOVING BATTERY AND BELT CLIP
(Refer to illustrations 2 & 3 inside rear cover)
To fit the battery, slide it into the control railsabout 1/2 an inch (2 cm) from the top of the radioand slide it towards the top until the battery latchhas engaged. Before removing the battery, turnoff the radio. Press the battery latch towards thefront of the radio, slide the battery down about 1/2an inch (2 cm) and lift it away from the radio.
Note: The battery must be charged before initialuse. (For approximately 16 hours)

To fit the belt clip, slide it into the mounting railson the back of the radio and press it downwardsuntil it latches into place. To remove the belt clip,lift the release tab by inserting a key or coinbetween the release tab and the back of the radio.Press the belt clip upwards until it is completelydisengaged from the radio.

OPERATION

COMMUNICATION PROCEDURE
To Transmit
1. Set the channel selector switch (3) to thedesired position.
2. Do not interrupt another user. Listen foractivity on your channel. If the channel onwhich you are transmitting is programmed toreceive PL/DPL, momentarily depress thecontrol or monitor button (4 or 5) to listen forchannel activity. The channel must be clearbefore transmitting.

When finishedtransmitting, release the PTT to receive.When the PTT is depressed the red LED (6)turns on, remains on for the entire length ofthe transmission, and turns off when the PTTis released.
Note: When the PTT is pressed (and as long as itremains pressed), the battery voltage isautomatically monitored and if the voltage islow, the red LED (6) flashes to alert you ofthe low battery condition. In addition, adouble alert tone is sounded when the PTTis released.
To Receive
1. Set the channel selector switch (3) to thedesired position.
2. Listen for a transmission and adjust thevolume control to a comfortable listeninglevel. If no transmission is heard, press andhold the control button (4) to unsquelch theradio and adjust the background noise to acomfortable listening level.
3. The radio is now set to receive all calls on theselected channel.
4. If you wish to monitor a channel (disablePL/DPL) press the monitor button. The yellowLED (6) will illuminate for 4 seconds, toconfirm that the coded squelch is disabled.Any time the PTT is pressed when the radio isin the PL/DPL disable mode, the yellow LEDwill temporarily illuminate to remind you thatthis state is active.The radio will remain in thecarrier squelch mode until the monitor buttonis pressed again, to reverse the state.
Note: All GP300 radio models have an internalsquelch setting which is adjusted at thefactory. The squelch level setting is not auser operated control, however it may bere-programmed by an authorised Motoroladealer.
Volume Set
Pressing one of the side buttons will initiate thevolume set feature, if it has been programmed toperform this function. The radio has the ability tomonitor the current radio volume level wheneverthis button is pressed. 'White Noise' is present forthe duration of the button press to indicate thecurrent level setting of the volume control.

OPERATION
Since standard operation may be changed byprogramming, the way your radio operates maydiffer slightly from this description. If in doubt,consult your authorised Motorola dealer.
RADIO ON/OFF
Turn the radio on by rotating the volume control(1) clockwise. A power up tone is heard to indicatethat the self-test has been completedsuccessfully. The radio is turned off by rotating thevolume control anticlockwise past the click stop.
CHANNEL SELECTION
Select the channel by turning the channel selectswitch. Selecting a channel which is notprogrammed in your radio, causes an invalidoperation tone.
CHANNELS WITHOUT SELECTIVE CALLFUNCTIONS
Prior to transmission always make sure that thechannel is free. When occupied the indicator (6)will be flashing red.

COMMUNICATION PROCEDURE
Press the transmit button (2) while talking, releasewhile listening. If the warning tone for speechlimitation is heard, the transmission will shortly becut off. The radio may be programmed to inhibitretransmission within a preset time.
CHANNELS WITH SELECTIVE CALLFUNCTIONS
Outgoing Calls
Prior to transmission always make sure that thechannel is free. If the indicator (6) flashes red thechannel is busy. If in doubt press the monitorbutton (4) to listen to the channel. Push the callbutton (5) to transmit your call. You will hear thetransmission of the call sequence.
Incoming Calls
The incoming call signal will sound and theindicator (6) will start flashing yellow doubleflashing for individual calls, single flashing forgroup calls.
Call Termination
After your call has been completed the radio willautomatically revert to coded squelch.
KEYPAD VERSION
The following functions require a radio with akeypad. (See page 12)
Address Selection
Other radios in your system can be calledindividually using the keypad. The radio number iscalled the address.
Enter the required address as follows:
Press or (depending on programming) toinitiate the entry.
Pressing the keypad buttons will cause a highpitch keypad tone (entry accepted) or a low pitchalert tone (entry not accepted).
Invalid entry may be caused by the following:
You are on a channel without addressselection.
You have already entered all digits in theaddress.
You have entered a digit not accepted on thisposition.
If an error tone occurs check the channel andpress or to restart the address entry. Onkeypad radios up to three digits of the address willbe shown on the display. Pressing the button

OPERATION WITH STANDARD FEATURES
Time-out Timer
The Time-out Timer (TOT) feature alerts you if thetransmitter is keyed for a long period. This featureprevents channel tie-up and excessive batterydrain in case of inadvertent keying of thetransmitter. The radio operates normally in thereceive mode with the TOT feature. However, inthe transmit mode, a single transmission(uninterrupted depression of the PTT) 'times-out'after a pre-programmed time, and the radio willcease transmitting, even with the PTT switchremaining pressed. An error tone is generateduntil the PTT is released to alert the operator.
Scan Operation
There are a number of different types of scan onthe radio. Please contact your authorisedMotorola dealer for further information.
AUDIO ACCESSORIES
Turn the radio off before connecting any approvedGP300 audio accessories. The radio loudspeakerand/ or internal microphone will automatically bedisabled when the radio is turned on.
Fitting the Audio Accessory
1. Lift the cover of the accessory connector (8)on the top of the radio.
2 Firmly press the accessory plug(s) into theaccessory connector on the radio.
3. Fit the optional audio accessory clamp(HLN8096).

CHARGERS
Insert the radio with a battery or a battery aloneinto the charger. Charging times are as follows:
Rapid charge: Approximately 30-60 minutesdepending on battery size
