Of special interest to us of course was our P&C and School Board. These two volunteer groups both play an integral role in our school and it was great to see them recognised at a community level. Congratulations to the Shire for their organisation of the evening. I was also lucky enough to receive one of the new welcome packs. These are a great initiative and contained some generous vouchers from local businesses including some from our parent body. We had a great first week back and everyone has settled into classes and learning. I hope families had an opportunity to spend some time together and relax. We celebrated my daughter Darcy’s 21st and was fortunate to spend a week in Albany. School Development Days Our first two development days of the year were very productive and have kicked us off to a good start. We looked at planning and intervention for our students with alternate educational needs, key areas for school improvement and consistent planning and assessment across English and Maths. These days provide the staff with the time to reflect and ensure that we are all starting the year on the same page. Senior Students Our senior students had their first meeting with Miss O’Keeffe last week and they were brimming with ideas. Miss O’Keeffe was blown away by their enthusiasm and positivity. Their first initiative will be this Thursday for Sweethearts Day. School Information Night Our annual information night will be held on Thursday 21st February. Class meetings will be held according to the schedule included in the newsletter. There will be a family sausage sizzle held in the undercover area from 5.15 and we hope to see everyone there. School Start Time It is wonderful to see students keen to arrive at school but please remember that the official start time is 8.30am. School Council AGM Our School Council plays a vital role in planning and guiding the future direction of the school. Nominations for positions on the School Council are now open. There is further information attached to the nomination form. From the council members we elect a Council Chair. We have been exceptionally lucky to have Daphne Schell volunteer countless hours to provide insight, leadership and continuity in the role of School Council Chair. As with any role, the time has come to hand over the reigns and we are looking for expressions of interest for a new council chair. It is an exciting time to be part of the council as we write our first three year plan for the school. I urge anyone who may consider the role to contact myself or Daphne for further information. Breakfast Club and Canteen Thanks to our parent volunteers who were organised and willing to start canteen in Week 1. This will continue each Monday with the exception of Week 5 Labour Day Holiday canteen will be on the Tuesday. Breakfast club will be held every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday morning at 8.30. Thanks to the staff and Goomalling Shire for volunteering to provide this service at school. Swimming Lessons Swimming lessons will be held in Week 4. This year we will combine our year levels with Sacred Heart in order to give the students a longer lesson time. Thank you to parents for getting the notes back so promptly, a timetable will come home with students as soon as it is finalised. What’s On Week 2 2019 Breakfast Club commences, Tues, Wed, Thurs.
