HIS past Feast of TabernaclesGodreached down deep-through Hisministers-into our hearts and said

to each of us: I want you to share Mylife, My happiness, My joh of beingGod. I have a great reward waiting foreach of you. Come Receive of My HolySpirit so you can have My character andI can trust you with eternal life, withreal responsibility, with My very own

creative power.Yet, with this goal, some of you areplanning to disobey God this fall

Remember-Gods Festivals are notman-made. They are Holy Convocations

    (Lev. 23:7, 21, 3 5 ) . The Almighty Cre-ator ORDERS His people to attend

Are You About to Sell YourBirthright?

Notice what happened to Esau whenhe set his eyes on physical pleasures in-stead of the goal ahead. God allowedEsau to get into a real test. He came in

from the field and was hungry (Gen .25: 29). H e was too hungry to w ait .Noticing that Jacob had a dish of len-tils (verse 3 4 ) , Esau traded his birth-right for this po t of porridge-so hecould quickly satisfy the desires of themoment. Esau did not appreciate thegreat value of his birthright

Would you sell your birthright todayfor a dish of soup?

You say, Of course not Dont be LOO sure Svme of you have

Brethren, some few of you who, as

    T

    -DIVINELY COMMANDED ASSEMBLIES

    already done juJt that

Price Salvation?you could lose your saluation ifto keep the Feast of Tabernacles

by L. E. Torrancefar as we know, are not planningtocome back to Gods Feast, were over-heard to make remarks similarto this,Im not coming back any more, theygave me a cold cup of coffee.

Whether you realize it or not, whatyou were saying is, Im like Esau, Illsell my birthright-the right to beamong the first-born in the KingdomofGod-for a hot cup of coffee. Yo u may

as well have said, If I have to drink acold cup of coffee, eternal life is notworth it.

Brethren, this is SERIOUS Youreternal life is at stake with such atti-tudes. Your life is either given t o God-or you are on migh ty dangerousground

You need to remember, though, thatGod promises, But if the wicked willturn from all his sins that he hath com-mitted, and keep all My statutes, and dothat which is lawful and right, he shallsurely live, he shall not die (Ezek.

8:21). Why die when you can repent

    and live?The Right Attitude

Gods ministers were elated to hearthat most of you brethren were thrilledat the Feast of Tabernacles last autumn. Many, many of you mentioned that theGospel of Christ was pictured moreforcefully, more powerfully nd yetmore compassionately than ever before. You mentioned how these sermons leftyou fiercely determined to put forth anall-out effort to follow step-b y-step theW A Y that leads to eternal life.

    you neglect

Many of you mentioned that the sermons jerked you right out of your lethargy-right out of the W A Y of destruction down which you were headed. Yeyou mentioned how thankful youwcrc.

You realized that it was as if the compassionate Almighty Creator was tellineach and every one of us, I want yoin My Kingdom. There is a work foyou to do.

The n it was as if God went o n tsay, But listen carefully, here aresomesins you have to overcome before I cantrust you with eternal life. And evenmore important, God revealed througHis ministers, Here isbow you canovercome these sins that are keepinyou from receiving My character, Mpower, My Holy Spirit.

The Wrong AttitudeInstead of being overwhelmed wit

gratitude, some others chose to becomoff ended.

We r e you the one who said, I came

here to hear Mr. Armstrong preachprophecy. All I have heard since Ivbeen here is a bunch of young fellowharping on overcoming. Dont yoknow that God has said,To him thatovercometh will I grant to sit with Mon My throne (Rev.3:21).

One man said after an especiallypowerful sermon which revealed whwe need to be overcoming, If I didnhave something elseto think aboutdur-ing some of these sermons, I think Ihave to get up and go outside.

Within a week after our first tithe,my husband receiveda $30 raise in paywhich was not an ticipated. Our tithe

nounced this morning that last monthwas the driest June on record. H e alsoreported a rainfall deficit for the first6 months of this year over7y2 inches. While we are not seriously harmed thusfar, we will soon suffer some bad effects. Our corn crop looks like an almost com-plete failure. Pastures are all dried up.Farmers have to either feed green chopdaily or start on the already limited haysupply. The hay matured very rapidlythis spring, limiting gro wth and causingloss in nutritive value. Oats are verys l ~ u r ia i d wheat light, both maturingtoo rapidly. Flies are aboutas bad onthe cattle now as they usually get inlate August. Insects are attacking thewheat. Also, price of milk was lowestlast month that it has been in aboutayear. Prophecy marches on.

Low prices for farm produce canforce land out of production justas ef-fectively as adverse weather conditions.

    Man from Ars-sur-Moselle, France

For centuries France has eitherhad her own wars or been involved bygeography in the disputesof Gerxnaxiyand England. This comment reflects theatt i tude of the French people and thelengths to which they wouldgo to avoidanother war on their soil ven thatthey would ally themselves with Ger-many, an old traditional enemy.

Thank you for my wonderful book--The Bible Story. I started and con -cluded it in one day. It was so interest-ing that I merely couldnt find a stop-ping point.

I am including the test sheet ofExam 1 for grading. I want to tell youwith all frankness that, concerning these

studies, since the day whenI began tostudy the very first lesson to this mo-ment, I have grown to havea muchfuller knowledge of the word of God.

I used to be very credulous towardwhatever the many preachers said aboutthe Bible, but now I see that the Bibleexplains itself I have been made tothink very seriously about the thingswhich are going to happen soon. As theprophet said, God is not goingto senddestruction without first warning Hispeople.

I am studying as you have told me;dividing my time in three parts: prayer,

study, and meditation.I will pray foryou, also, that God will give you morewisdom in th e knowledgeof His Word.

I am going to be sincere with you:a t times I am very confused by yourbooklets; a t times I think that you areof God, and at times I think that youare of Satan. SometimesI believe thatGod is doing His work through you,and sometimes I believe that Satan isusing you to make me fall.

Do you comprehend the FACT thatyou and your family are in theliteralP R E S E N C E of that same Gud whenyou attend His convocations?

We pray for Gods presence in ourassemblies. Those prayers, made in thefaith of Jesus Christ, are heard and an-swered Ou r prayers are NOT somemeaningless ritual just to getus off toa good religious start. Our prayers areNO T jus t a sanctimonious way to openthe WORSHIP services. Our amensshould never hold the meaning of, Yes.yes, but lets get on with keeping theSabbath so I can get home early and livemy life.

Some apparently do not appreciatethe FAITH in whichwe pray. They donot really BELIEVE God hears ourprayers. They do not COMPREHENDthe full importanceof the Sabbath. Theydo not absolutely K N O W God respondsto our petition.

We must be AWARE that Godspresence makes the Sabbath Holy-Heis PRES ENT in the Sabbath Th e Sab-baths are HIS holy convocations. Hei s PRESENL in His convocationsREALLY No t in some indefinable,wishy-washy, meaningless, powerless, spiritualizedway. He is actually thereIN SPIRIT

GOD-the Creator of this Church-is not an ethereal void. H e isIN theChurch; He is IN its meetings; H e isTRULY PRESENTat His convocations. He has not gon e wayoff to leave us toour own devices, our own way of liv-ing, our own way of rearing oiir fami-lies and controlling our children.

Immediately after the dazzlinglydreadful ex perience of G ods presenceat Siiiai, the Israelites were commandedto diligently teach the laws of life totheir children (Deut. 6:7). Amongother things those laws revealedexactlyH O W they and their children were tokeep the Sabbath HOLY. Those samelaws and instructions-now greatly mag-nified by all of the Scripture which hassince been written-apply tous today.

We are to keep the Sabbath HO LY.We are to instruct our children in

how to keep the Sabbath HOLY.In I Timothy 3: 15 the Apostle Paul

told Timothy that the instruction hehad given earlier in the chapter wassothat thou mayest know H O W thououghtest to BEHAVE THYSELFINTHE HOUSE OF GOD, which is theC H U R C H O F T H E L I V I N G GOD. In verse 4 he had just said,chil-dren (are to b e ) in subjectionwith allgravity; while in verse 12 he reiter-ates, ruling their children. . WELL

In I Timothy 4: 11 he told Timothy,

and thus all of Gods ministers, Thesethings COM MAN D and TEACH This article therefore comes with au-thority.

    Disdain for God and Church?

Some parents in Gods Church allowtheir children to bellow, squall andscream in the PRESENCE ofGod. Suchabject negligence and chaos is DE-TESTABLE in Gods sight and aSTENCH in His nostrils Itshows rankdisregard for and insolence toward theCreator. It demonstrates impudent un-

concern for the other members of thecongregation. If you are one who cannot master your children, you may jusas well stand up and loudly shout thayou do not know how to teach them-that you DONOT K N O W H O W TOBE A PARENT

cics on the Sabbath-Gods law permitsit-but you should need to be involvedonly in emergemycorrections with yourchildren on the Sabbath.

Proper prearation for the Sabbathmeans having your children in completereadiness. Your responsibility doesNOTend with providing clean and pressedclothes, prepared meals, and a littleBible instruction. Their minds,atti-tudes, emotionsand W H O L EBEHAV-IOUR PAT T E R N must be made ready. To forget or forsake thiscompleteprep-aration of your child is abysmal folly.

God commands o u r presence in Hisconvocations W e cannot forsake meet-ing with the local Church or on theannual Sabbaths. Some, recognizing thedistraction of their ill-man nere d chil-dren, attempt to solve the problem ofimproper preparation by being at themeeting without beinga real part of it.Their attention issplit between the ser-

    mon and restive children.

Hiswife should expect his willing assistancein disciplining their children--withouthnt,i?ag o nsk for it He is the one whois in charge. H e should be th e example, give the instruction, and,by settingfamily policy, lead the way all throughthe week AND on the Sabbath

Too often, when trouble is brewing,

the husband only grits his teeth, closeshis cars, starcs straight ahcad, sccthcsuncomfortably and finally, in exaspera-tion, glares at wife and child as he in-dist inctly mumbles, Do something Then the mother, martyr of woman-hood, dismally, grimly or dispiritedlybegins to trudge, distractingly, in andout of the meeting place as she at-tempts to appease and assuage theslightest whim or outburstof the fret-ful child.

Such women spend the Sabbathfight-ing their children Too many finallyjust give up To o weak in character togain dominance over a few pounds ofspiteful flesh they sink down into in-activity. And so it is not unusual to findthe ladies lounge area of a Chu rchcluttered with bedraggled, frustratedmothers and their squirming, restless, misbehaving offspring.H o w shameful

Yo u who do this only FOOL YOUR-SELVES if you think you are gettingall you should from the services. Youcannot keep the Sabbath HOLY whileyou walk up and down the aisle. Thewomen in Gods Church must sto p suchmeaningless, useless foolishness

This trcnd can bc stopped.Every hus-band of such a wife is directly respon-sible-he may even be forcing his wifeto behave in such an irrational way.H O W ? Would it actually advance the cause

of Christianity and bring world peaceif all churches united under one head?

Is this Ecumenical (world-wide)church movement really what i t pre-tends to be?

Would you l ike to know i i z udvuncewhether the Vatican will succeed ingathering t h e scattered brethren-theother Catholic Orthodox churches andthe Protestants-back into her fol d?

Answer in AdvanceDoes it sound incredible to you that

the answer was written almost3,000years ago--800 years before Christ? Is

it too hard to believe that Christ Him-self had iiiucli tu say about Ecumen-ism and a colossal end-time religioushoax?

The answers were written under in-spiration by Isaiah the prophet long be-fore New Testament t imes, and theApostle John quotes Jesus Christs ownanalysis of this new global ideology inthe book of Revelation, believe itornot

Before we analyze what prophecy hasto say about church unity, here is a re-port on recent events which have beenfulfilling the predictions of the Bibleright before our cyes

    India Hosts Biggest ProtestantMeeting Ever

    Since the Council of Trent in the16th century, there has been no gather-ing of Christians such as Ne w Delh i,India, witnessed last fall. TheWorldCouncil of Churches oasting over3,000,000 members from 19 7 denomi-nations throughout90 countries eelsitself i c s p o i i d l e f o r one of the veryearly events in thesecond great Refor-m a t i o n of Christendom. The main

    Wby Charles V. Dorothy

topic of this Council was howto solvedifferences and bring about uni ty.Among these theologians it is commonknowledge that over430 differing, bick-ering, backbit ing, competing deno mina-tions, all claiming to beof Christ, can-not possibly be reconciled with Christsfinal prayer .. . h a t t h e y m a ybe O N E ,even as we are one (Jn . 17:2 2) .

Fruit was borne. Fur the first timesince the Protestant split from the

Roman Catholic Church in the1500s,a Protestant body in harmony withOrthodox Catholics made concrete prog-ress toward unity W it h mu ch light-footed sidestepp ing and shadow-boxing,the General Sccretary of the WorldCouncil of Churches, Willem A. Vis-ser t Hooft, managed to appease thehigh-u ps of Russian O rthodo xism andwin them as members

This Council is growing in prestigeand popularity as already helpedsome Protestant churchcsto unite ndwill be the springboard for new andlarge mergers as a result of the 1961meetings. The National Council ofChurches here in America is sewingstronger stitches. Beside the severaldozen unifications among Protestants ofthe last 10 years (especially the Meth-odist realignment) , there is the pend-ing large-scale blendingof Methodists,Episcopalians, Presbyterians and UnitedChurch of Christ.

Protestants Not AloneTh e lets get together ecumenism

spirit is stirring around the worldforthe first time in millenniums. UnaSancta, a European Protestant-Catholic

togetherness movement working toamalgamate all churches into a superChristian cartel celebrates its 23rd yearin 1962. Athenagoras I, Patriarch ofConstantinople and spiritual leader ofall Eastern Orthodox churches, made hisfirst appeal for a reunion of Ortho-dox, Roman Catholic and Protestantchurches ( N e w York Ti m e s , April 15,1 9 6 0 ) .

This was followed in September,1961, by the numerous Orthodo x (no n-Roman) Catholic churches meeting inRhodes-after centu ries of jealousy and

attack am ong themselves-to plan anew Orthodox unif icat ion This wouldinclude such groups as the Greek, Russian, Serbian, Rum anian, Syrian, Ukra inian, Bulgarian, to namea few . By a freakaccident, a proposed meeting on re-union between Pope John XXIII andEastern Orthodox officials was scoopeby the press and so was called off.

This is not all. Also for the first time, the Vatican sent official observers to th

World Council in New Delhi . TheSecretariat f o r t h e Unity of Christianc, headed by Curia-Cardinal Bea of thVatican, is studying the ecumenicaproblem. The Pope has had traditionbreaking visits, jusr in the last year, from the presiding Bishop of theU. S.Protestant Episcopal Chu rch, and thArchbishop of Canterbury

Biggest News YetThe world was jarred early in1959

Even such aimportant doctrine as Mary ascendinto heaven bodily was pronounced byPope Pius XI1 without benefit of acouncil.

    What to Expect This Fall

The world waits with wonder anawe for the results of the much-hailedlong-delayed, world-wide council.Atlast Rome is responding to widespreapressure for unification. I t will succeedStep 1: Bring the Vatican to the

height of its strength and unity. Themain aim of the ecumenical council willbe that of strengthening and invigor-ating the Roman Catholic Church(Pope John X XIII, AP release inGlen-

dnle News Chronicle, Aug. 10, 1 9 5 9 ) .Much has been accomplished since thisannouncement. Loose ends will be tiedup this fall.

Step 2: Regather t he scattered breth-ren of Orthodox Catholicism. PopeJohn XXIIIs call for an ecumenicalcouncil is aimed primarily at achievinga reunion of the Rom an Catholicand Eastern Orthodox churches whichparted ways in the Great Schism of1472 (UPI , Evening Tribune, SanDiego, California, Jan. 27,1959). Al-though complete reunion will probablynot be accomplished this year, thegroundwork will be laid; merger willfollow.

Step 3: Embrace the daughterProt-estant churches which broke away dur-ing the Reformation This third stepwill not be achieved this fall, but as aprelude to it, the Protestants have aprecedent-breaking invitation t o watchthe council meetings this fall Soundsincredible, you say? L istento what PopeJohn himself said: The n, whe n theCatholic Church is in its full splendor,we will say to Orthodox and Protes-tants, You can see, brothers, this is theChurch of Christ. Come Come Th is is

    the way open to a meeting,TO A RE-T U R N Come to take, or take back,your place which, for many of you, isthat of your ancient fathers ( LOs-servatore Romano, Vatican newspaper,Aug. 10, 1 9 5 9 ) .

Step 4: Missionary Conquest of theworld for Christ-this statem ent fromthe Pope clearly reveals the imperial-istic design of the Vatican: CONQUERTH E W OR LD Th e Vatican is alreadyas much a nation or state as is GreatBritain. It has a full civil governmentwith a flag, a police force, courts andpostage stamps. It even issues currencyin the form of gold and silver coinsbearing an effigy of the Pope, and it hassome 500-odd national citizens who useVatican passports when they wish totravel. It has armed guards, and, before1870, it had a full-blow n military estab-lishment (American Freedom andCcdtholic P o w e r, by Paul Blanshard, p.4 1 ) .

But some will object and say, TheCatholic Church is only interested inthe SPIRITUAL conquest of nations, not military or political. The questionis, Has the Roman Church historically

    fw cen.tn s, CONTROLLED POLI-TICS whenever possible, WAGEDW A R when necessary (eith er directlyor indirectly by controlling nationala rm i es ), a nd W E S IT N O W PA R -TICIPATE IN POLITICS?

    History cries,YES IT HAS IT AL-WAYS HAS, DOES SO N O W, A N DALWAYS WZLL

Always, that is, untilit is destroyed. It is an understatement to say that

the Roman Catholic Church isin poli-tics. IT IS POLITICAL. Separationofchurch and state is described by FatherJohn Courtenay Murray, the leadingcurrent writer on this theme in theAmerican [Catholic) hierarchy, as Thatnegative, ill-defined, basically un-Amer-ican formula, with all its overtones ofreligious prejudice (Blan shard ,p 43 )Pius IX, in Section 6 of his Syllabus,DE NO UN CE D the cherished belief thatthe Church ought to be separated fromthe State, and the State from theChurch as one of T HE PRINCIPA LERRORS O F OU R T IME (Blanshard,p. 43. Emphasisours).

So you can expect this fall anappre-ciable advance toward the cause ofRoman-Orthodox unity, althoughit maytake longer for actual unity. No ecu-menical council of t h e past has everbeen announced as a failure. In the eyesof the Eternal City, Rome, they arealways overw helm ing successes. You canexpect, moreover, generally favorablecomments from Protestants asto the

possibility of one giant super-Christianmonopoly in the not-too-distant future. You will begin to hear the CatholicChurch boast notJ50 millions, but closeto 900 millions of adherents, with theaddition of the Orthodox ranks; in afew years-with Protest ants added-well over a BILLION

    Will Unity Come?

    Emphatically, dogmatically, we statepositively t h a t C H U R C H U N I T YWILL COME How can we be sure?Simply that God has revealed it throughthe prophet Isaiah over 2,700 years ago

Speaking of the Catholic Church(Daughter of Babylon), Isaiah says,And thou saidst,I shall be a lady forever:so that thou didst not lay thesethings to thy heart, neither didst re-member the latter end of it. Thereforehear now this, thou that art giventopleasures, that dwellest carelessly, thatsayest in thine heart, I AM , A N DNONE ELSE BESIDE ME;I shall notsit as a widow, NEITHER SHALL IK N O W T H E LOSS O F C H I L D R E N(Isa. 47:1, 7-8).

Did you grasp the tremendous signi-

ficance? This event is for the LATTEREN D, nearing the climax of this agwhen Christ will set up His governme(Rev. 11 15 ) This mistress (orlady, defined in I1 Cor. 11 :2 and Rev. 19:7as a church) will say, There is noneelse beside me or, I am the onlyChristian church in existence.

Now it should be clear that in ordeto fulfill the prophecy of Isaiah for thlatter days, the Rom an C atholic Churcmust KEGAIN DAUGHTER churcheshe has mothered-either throu gh poliical moves for unity, or throughforcedconzwrsionin the Tribulntion. Once re-unification is achieved, she becomes thonly Christian church. How to SOLVE FamilyArguments

L WS regulate ma rital happiness Many of Gods people are not l iving ashappily as G od intended Heres ho w to overcome ma rital unhappiness

N o YO U started i t all , is the quickretort , and YOU will . have to repentFIRST

YOU repent, an d say youre sorryCould this bey o z ~ome?

    Whats Wrong Here?

    Almighty G od invented marriage.

Therefore, God had the r ight and theprerogative to regulate marriage In thebeginning, God sct down ccrtain luwswhich, if they were obeyed, would resultin happy, scintillating, interesting, falllives he trueabuizdancewhich all man -kind IS seeking, but in vain.

As a memb er of Gods Church, youhave come to understand that God hasplaced goi~ernnzeiztn His Church A n dsince God is, by very NAT UR E, the orig-inator of GO VE RN ME NT God hasalso established a gozernntrnt in thehome

    It is because of a lack of understand-ing of how th i s g o i w a n t e u t works thatmany of Gods people are not experienc-ing the happ iness in m arriage they reallydesire.

Many of you brethren have come tozrvderstnizd the organization in the home. You K N O W that the husband i s to bethe one in charge, the wife is to be obe-dient to the husband, and the childrenunder their parents, andso on. Most ofyou AGREE with thisas a doctrine, and you see it

    But do you knowh o w it works? Yeswhat s W R O N G wi th an a rgument

such as the one described? WHO isreally in the wro ng?

    The Husbands Obligation

First, lets notice that Go d said, throug hthe Apostle Paul ButI would have youknow, that the head of every man isChrist, and the head of th e wom anis theman, and the head of Christ is God. Hewent an to say For the man is not ofthe woman, but the womanof the man.Neither was the man created f o r thewoman, but the womanf o Y the man ( I Cur. 11:3, S - 9 . ) Later, in writing hisletter to the Church a t Ephesus, theApostle Paul was inspired to say Wives,

submit yourselves unto your own hus-bands, asunto the Lord. For h e husbdndis the H EA D of the wife, eveiz as Christis the head of the church, and he is thesaviour of the body. Thereforeas thechurch is subject unto Christ, so let thewives be to their ow n husbands in every-thing (Eph.5:22-24 . )

Notice the words evenas The oned i s t i ngu i sh ing DIFFE REN CE be tween

this Church andall other is its OBEDI-ENCE to Christ And, notice, God com-m a i d s that the husban d is to be theheadof the w i f e , EVEN AS Christ is the headof the Church

Most of you wome n have though t theseverses were all aimed at YOU

But they arenot W hile they are com-mands with regard to the statusof thewife in the marriage-they are aimeddirectly at the man

God holds th- man RESPONSIBLEGod is pointing these comman ds directlyto the man, whois to BE the head

H e is not the head merely because thewife lets him be the hzad -o r becauseshz accepts thisas a doctrine and thenbzlligerently says All right, Illgo alongwith it.

For instance, in a study appearing inone of the major weekly news magazinessome years ago,a very respected judge,SamuelS. Leibowitz of the Kings Cou ntyCourt in Brooklyn, reportedon a study hemade in Italy.

    He found, in travelingall over Europeand in Italy, that the Italian home is onet h s t sprmingly has more gove rnmen t ,and, as a result, the Italian society has lessj u v e n i l e d e l in q u e n c y t h a n a n y o t h e rcountry he had entered.

Usually, one party or the other liasdone something that is selfish, thought-less, inconsiderate, or even deliberatelywrong

Immediately the other party, regard-less of which sex, will begin to berate, nag at, scold and co ndem n the actions ofthe other This condemnation and scold-ing only leads to further condemnationand scolding, with an attempt at self-justification on the part of the other pa rt-ner-a nd this leads toa chain reactionon the part of the opposite partner-and so it goes.

T o illustrate: John has had a longday at the office. Thoughtlessly, he neg-lected to call his wife when he stayedlater with some friends, and the dinnergot cold. Mary had had her hands fullwith the children, scorched her finger

with the iron, had th e soup boil over andburn on the element of the stove, andhas seen her dinner get cold, on topof itall.

W hen John comes home, Mary beginsimmediately, in a shrill and venomousmanner, to berate him saying, WELLIts about TIM E you got home Youcould haveut least called me HereI am,burdened down with the children etc.,etc. Joh n stands there akingit all in-coming to a slow boil H e reasons inhis own mind HereI am slavingat theoffice, bring ing home the living, trying t oprovide for my wife, and instead of a

Even though he should be WIL LINGto admit his mistake and his error, and tosincerely and lovinglyapologize for ithe should take charge, and remind hiswife th at she, too, is guilty of a sin

Mywife and I have begun in the bookofProverbs, and I have since found thatothers have also selected this book.Fromothers, I have heard they have begun inPsalms, or one of the gospels, or back inthe book of Joshua or Judges. Wh atevcrseems to be best in your particular casefor the whole family-that is your de-cision But the father and mo ther shouldselect a certain portion of the Bibleasn starting point. Then, even if you haveto arrange to get up a few minutes

earlier each morning, the whole familyshould be seated in the living room, orsome other place, and the children becaught to sit quietly and attentivelywhile the father opens the Bible andexpounds and explainsa few passages.

Perhaps you will have time for onlyone proverb Th e reason I chose Prov-erbs is because it is literally FILLEDwith admonitions about growing in un-derstandin g, wisdom, fear of G od, andmyriad scrip tures on the obedience re-quired of children.

The father should read the scripture, then rephrase it, expound it, enlargeupon i t , cxplain i t , putit in simple, easy-to-understand terms, g ive dow n-to-eartheveryday examples of these principlesinaction, so your children will be sure tounderstand. Ask themquestionsabout it,have them repeat the principles back toyou.

The mother should add her bit nowand then, helping the children to under-

stand.Remember, this should be done inperfect HARMONY The father shouldlead, the mother follow second, and thechildren maintain their placeas God hasintended

Then, all should kneel, and the fatherbegin a very brieforal prayer. H e shouldmention the challenges of that particularday, the need of Gods work, and cspc-cially pray abo ut those things pertain ingto his ow n personalfamily Th e mothershould then follow his lead, adding w hat-ever points she has thought of. Thechildren, then, should be encouraged topray-and perh aps their pare nts willeven have to add certain words or re-mind them of thingsduring th e prayer-TO TEACH THEM TO PRAY Jesus taughtHis D isciples to pray

This does not have to be a literalHOUR in length Usually,a family willnot have this mu ch time But, depen dingupon the size of the family, itCER-TA I N LY should NEVER go less than f i f -teen minutes For a family of three tofive, about fifteen to thirty minuteswould seemto be a good average.

    Dont Let Circumstances Intervene

Every temptation on the face of thisearth will come to try to keep you fromdoing this Th e telephone will ring, friends will come, emergencies will arise, you will over-sleep,or something willhapp en Th at is Satans way of trying tolead us off, and trying to getus to slipup on such a practice

KNOW that if every single person inGods Church begins toDO this, as aDAILY OCCURRENCE, th is wholeChurch will begin togrow-TOGETHER-much mo re rapidly

Again, let me restate, I do not meanthis should substitute for your earnest,

daily prayer You should do your ownpersonal praying inprivate, just withGod and Christ alone However, forjust a few minutes each morning, youshould have this dailyORAL playel as ahelp to your whole family

Your family will begin to be happierThe husband and wife will begin torecognize more fully their individuaresponsibilities T h e child ren will be-come mo re attentive, more obedient Alof these things will not happen in twodays, or even two months But THEYWILL HAPPEN-IF YOU WILL DO as 1very strongly exhort

Yo ur Responsib il i tyto You r Ch i ld r en

Brethren, think for a moment Ourlittle children, more than any otherchildren on the faceof the earth, aregoing to have to shoulder tremendousresponsibilities in the beginning of themillennium

THEY re going to be the youngadults who, in thephysical realm, willhave to LEAD THE WORLD T h e kind okworld leadership under the great familyof God that is donethen , will dependlargely uponour t r a in ing of our c h i l h mnow

Their CHARACTER, and, for that mat-ter, WHETHER they will be in the begin-ning of the millennium, Jepeiids UII YOU-RIGHT NOW T h e y are your fruit-and you are k n o w nby your fruit Thei rcharacter is in your hands

Teach your children a sense of pro-priety Teach them obedience Teachthem to do exactlywhat they are told todo-xactly w h e n they are told to do itTeach them to follow detailed, carefuinstructions Teach them the mean ingof love, of respect for authority,of de-ference to their elders,h o w t o learn

Any of you families who are blessedenough to have your children in one oour Imp erial schools-remember toteach your child, above all else,b o w t osit still, and how to PAY ATTENTION-how to learn

It is amazing how fcw childrenat theage of six have ever been taught, in atheir lives, how to merelySIT STILL forjust a few minutes ata time

A young child e nterin g the first gradeat age six, who has never had to sit stifor even a few minutes-learned to foldhis hands and pay at tent ion to his elders-is goin g to be an unr uly, rebelliousdifficult-to-manage child in school

All of a sudde n, he will be throwntogether wit11 a nuI1iber of urher childrenhis ow n age, and told t o sit still ina chairfor several hours a day If he has notbeen previously TAUGHT to do this, uthome , he cannot be expected to do it ischool

Others said, I came here to be en-couraged (patted on the back).I didntcome here to hear what is wrong withme. If they are going to talk to me thisway, Im not coming back. In otherwords, some who did not understandthe value of their birthright were say-ing that eternal life is not worth havingto put up with Gods ministers tellingthem of the sins that they will havetoovercome before hey will receive eter-nal life.

Whether they realize it or not, theymight as well have said they wouldrather have the lake of fire than to hearthat they werent yet perfect-that theyhad things to overcome. They didntwant to know the truth.

W hy d o you think God has given H isministers a greater knowledgeof ourweaknesses than ever before? Isnt itbe-cause the time is growing short? Isntthat why Gods Spirit moves His min-isters to cry aloud (Isa.58:1)?

Are You Too Good for GodsChosen People?

Some people at the Feast becamedeeply concerned by what they sawothe r babes in Ch rist do-yes, thosewho did not yet know any better.

Orthey becamc disturbed bywhat they sawsome totally unconverted persondo. Not understanding what Christ meantwhen H e said, I will have m ercy(Ma tt . 9: 1 3 ), they said, If this is anexample, I dont want any part of it.They didnt obey Gods command toprove all things. They left ina huff.Being unwise, they compared them-selves with themselves, instead of withChrist Jesus-as they are com man dedto do (I1 Cor. 10:12).

They left, thinking, Im better thanthese people anyway. They went away

feeling self-satisfied, self-righteous. Theylooked at the unconverted in their midst-instead of at Chris t.To them, to lookat Christ as their example, to look inthe Bible to see how to live, to look atthe fruits of Gods ministers andGodspeople, was too high a price to pay-eternal life just wasnt worth that much.It was easier to unthinkingly and un-justly criticize any and all.

These unfortunate critics let theireyes look to people instead of to God.They got their eyes on the wrong goal-just like Esau did.

How abuut you?One man who thought he was too

good for Gods people was asked by aminister to help serve. H e said, NoIcame here for a vacation, not to work.

Christ Jesus isnt too great to serve.H e sits at the Father s right hand dayand night, interceding forus with theFather, healing us, guiding and direct-ing us. H e thought enough of us todivest Himself of His eternal power asa member of the very God Family tocome down and serveus by dying forour sins so we would not have to paythe death penalty ourselves.

God is calling us to an eternity ofservice to Him. He is calling us to bekings and priests, to help Christ rulethe nations. He is testingus now-tosee if we will serve Him. God will notgive eternal life to anyone He cantrule.

Brethren, serving the Almighty Cre-ator is a privilege, not merely a duty.

    Signs Follow After You Too

They fail to see it isonly a sign that they have been dis-obedielzt.

Brethren, God just does not give thatkind of a sign.

Signs follow after your obediencenot before. God gives you H is blessingAFTER you obey Himby paying yourfirst tithe and saving your second titheGod gives you His blessings AFTERyou obey Him by keeping the Feastand not before.

    them. Brethren, what sin

Did You Obey James 5 : 1 4 ?A few have said, Every time we go

to the Feast, we get sick. Until Godchanges the location toa better climate,we dont feel we ought to go back tothe Feast until somcthing is done. Inother words, if God is going to allowthem to have a small bit of hardship toprove them as H e pro ved Esau-theyare going to do just like Esau did-selltheir birthright, reject eternal life, fora bowl of soup.

Did you ever stopto think that per-haps you are refusing to learn the val-uable lesson God wants you to learn byobeying the command in James5 : 1 4 tocall His ministers when you or yourchildren are sick? If you could just real-ize it-your sickness can be transfo rme dinto a blessing through Christ who healsyou.

W he n Gods minister a noints you, oryour family, and prays for you and Godheals you-that is a sign-proof tha tGo d is Cre ator and Ruler-proof thatHe blesses those who obey Him.

Some others havea great big over-dose of the martyr complex. They havesaid, I knew you would be over-crowded so well stay home to makeroom for the others.

God wont be pleased with that kindof idle reasoning. He CO MM AN DSyou to come. His hand is notso shortH e cant provide for you and for every-one else who will come.

Too Poor for God?Too many brethren have an attitude

of discouragement. They apparentlywant to go back in the woods some-where. The y say, We re poor folks,God wont expect us to come.

Yes, H e does You are nota Chris-tian if y o u wilfully refuse to come tothe Feast of Tabernacles as God com-mands, whether you are poor or not.Being poor-or rich-doesnt ma ke youa Christian-only obedien ce to God infaith makes you a Christian.

There are hundreds of articles ofgood used clothing ihar have beencleaned and pressed and hung up foryou a t the Feast-if you need them .Isyour pride too great? Isthat your stum-bling block? Is eternal life not worth itfor you to humble yourself as Christcommands you? Because you have hadsome hard times, wouldyou sell yourbirthright -your ae rna l l ife orfalse pride?

Why God Commands You to Keepthe Feast

God COMMANDS you to come to

This coming Feast pictures the timewhen Christ comes and the time of thegreat ingathering harvest-which Christwants you to help Him reap. The Feastis part of your training ground.

These annual Sabbaths area sign thatidcntifies Gods people ( Ex. 3 17)God will be looking down on thesemeetings to see who is there, to see whoare His people. Salads the Year AroundHere is an article explaining how to make salads more

uttructive, more appelizing-as well us nutritiozls.

N our modern society few seem to really appreciate thevalue of a good and healthful salad To a great extentsalads have degenerated into half wilted lettuce, a feeble

slice of toma to and run-do wn unap petizing-lo oking dressing. It is the part of the meal eaten first in order to get it overand get on with the meal.

Children often dislike salads. Adults eat. them because theylearned somewhere it was good for them. This attitu de neednot be so. Since fresh produce is available in markets theyea r-rou nd, salads can be enjoyed every season, provided theyare made properly.

What is Salad?Just what is a salad? TheEncyclopedia Britannicadescribes

a sulad as: a dish originally dressed with salt, of green un-cooked herbs, such as lettuce, endive, mustard, cress. . usuallyserved w ith a flavouring of o nion, garlic or leeks, and w ith adressing of vinegar, oil Little wonder that salads wereonce thought of as unattractive and unappetizing.

Today this same basic idea is used but it has had muchmore variety added to it No longer are there just gre en, leafysalads. N ow ther e are available various assortmen ts of fruits, vegetables and meats. W it h mo dern transportatio n, the avail-ability of salad ingredients knows no season.

    Green Salads

Salails a i r rmeiiiial t o gvod health for childrenand adults. They are also easy to prepare.

For a green salad there are two essential ingredients:( 1 )fresh, crisp greens; ( 2 ) proper dressing. The salad can bemuch enhanced by simply varying the combinations. Theresult?-more appea ling meals and the kindof health the

body needs for a youthful and active life. The Tosscd Crccn Salad is the most widely servedof the

green salads. Lettuce, escarole, chicory, romaine, spinach, chi-nese cabbage, endive, water cress and dan delion greens a resome of the more comonly used greens. Always wash thor-oughly and drain. Tear into bite-size pieces(never bruisesalad greens bv cuttin g them w ith a kn ife ). Keep chilled ina covered bowl or refrigerator crisper until time to serve.Dressing may be added jmt before serving orat the table byeach individual.

Create your own salad by varying the kinds and amountsof greens and the garnish. Some suggestions are

lettuce, cucumbers and tomatoes;escarole, pepper rings, hard-boiled eggs;endives, ripe olives, tomatoes;lettuce, radishes, pepper rings;purple cabbage, lettuce.

A hearty, well-balanced salad in meal-sized portions mayeven be used for the main course. The Chef s Salad Plate ishealthful and a delight to eat.

    Fruits and Salads

Fruits in season, ripened in the sun, are the bestas well asmost economical fruits for your fruit salads. In winter, applesand citrus fruit and pears are found fresh in the markets.Cherries and apricots appear in early summer. Then late sum -mer brings peaches, the various melons, grapes and pears.Other f ru i t s may be available from timeto time also, depend-ing on the locality.

Select according to freshness and, in the case of apples andpears, also according to variety. Certain varietiesof thesefruits are best raw; others are better used in cooked dessertsand sauces. The fruit should be firm in order to hold its shapeduring preparation, yet ripe enough not to be sour.

Fresh bananas and canned pineapplea te tn he had a n y t imeand can be used to enliven salads made of fresh fruit in season.Dried apricots, dates, figs and raisins may also be added attimes.

Combinationsof no inole than fuur f ru i r s -une of whichmay be of the citrus group-make mo re palatable mixturesRather than mixing the fruits together, they may be arrangeto form w hat is termed a salad plate. T he pieces of prpared fruit are artistically arranged on one large platter or oindividual plates to form fans, wheels or whatever shape maplease ones fancy. The dressing is passed at the time the salis served.

But what if you have no fresh fruit? Then one may uscanned fru it, keeping in mind that such fru its have generalbeen sweetened and that the juice should also be used in tsalad where possible. Canned fruit is most suitable in a geltine salad where the juice from the fruit can be mixed withe gelatine and used as the body of the salad, not adding aadditional sweetening. If used for a salad which requircs thathe juice be drainedoff, the juice should be saved and used ia gelatine dessertor in a fruit drink. Home-canned fruits arusually better than the commercially canned ones because thare less watery and more nearly ripe.

There is one commercially canned fruic, however, which not acceptable just from the standpoint of its possible effeon health. This is the popular canned fruit cocktail. Asidfrom its rather high sugar content, it containsartificially 601

w e d cherries. These look pretty but are harmful. Recent studihave revealed how food colors once thought safe and used fyears in foods have now been found unsafe, some even cauing cancer. There is no certainty thatany chemical food color-ing is really safe even if it is labeledU. s. certified. Somearrificial rolnrs permitted to be used in the U. S. A . a re wiselyprohibited in most other countries.

For this reason we are giving you here a recipe for frucocktail which you can make at home and use with full cofidence that your salads are not tainted with some healtdestroying chemical.

    Home-Canned Fruit Cocktail

Heres how: Combine equal amountsof peaches and pears.Add seedless grapes for taste and variety. Sweeten to tas

with orange blossom honey. Can and process, using boilibath method as for peaches and pears. Fora real treat use itin a fruit gelatine salad.

    Home-Canned Fruit Cocktail Gelatine Salad

2 tablespoons unflavored gelatine2 cups home-canned fruit cocktail with its juice1 cup fresh orange juice

Soften gelatine in orange juice. Dissolve over low heat aadd to fruit. Pour into mold. Serve on lettuce with cottacheese, or with fruit dressing. Or it may be served as a dsert Suggestion: A ny fruit juice or nectar such as pineappapple, grape,or apricot may be substituted for orange juic

Fruit salads may be supplem ented with cottage cheese. Gnish a dish of cottage cheese generously with home-cannfruit cocktail or frozen fruits or berries and melon. For a madish fruit salad, prepare a bed of torn pieces of lettuce oaplate for each serving. Witha serving of cottage cheese ithe middle, garnish generously with fruit and sliced chei f desired.

Oranges and apples are often basic ingredients in frsalads. Together they supply juiciness, crispness, and coFruit should be cut in neat slices, cubes, wedges or bausing only sharp tools to avoid crushing or tearing. Use f ru i t that will contrast and yet be in harmony with the coloor colors of the other fruits in the salad. Cherries (not articially colored on es ), grapes,or berries will do this very welChill prepared fruit before serving.
