    Second Session

    2015

    This newspaper is published

With a campership in memory of Milton Ball,

    A Philadelphia newspaperman.

  • DEDICATION

The 2015 Second Session Edition of the Golden Slipper Record is

dedicated to Aunt Andi Seitchik. Andi has spent the last 5

summers as the Female Head Counselor here at GSC. She came to

Slipper with years of life experience as a camper, counselor, and

teacher but most importantly as a mother. She has taken all of the

knowledge she has stored over the years to make Golden Slipper

Camp a better place for both campers and staff.

Aunt Andi’s journey to this point has not always been an easy one.

But one she has taken head on and has shown those who know her

how a positive, confident attitude can lead to great things. She has

helped us all realize that “Fight for Andi” really means “Fight for

    Right”.

Andi thank you for doing what you do. We are happy you are part

of our Slipper family and hope to see you for many more years to

    come.

  • Letter from the Director

Dear Golden Slipper Campers and Staff,

Here at Golden Slipper Camp we have created our own unique community

where every person is welcomed and valued. At Golden Slipper Camp, we

depend on one another, we encourage one another, and we strengthen one

another without hesitation. The first session of 2015 is a true testament to

what we have tried to create here at GSC. Over the last three weeks, I have

seen campers and staff grow as a family in which everyone is treated in a

positive manner. New and old staff members have come together to lead our

    campers with passion and enthusiasm.

Throughout the second session we had days of sun and fun. We swam,

whipped and nay-nayed, played, competed, laughed and enjoyed each

other’s company throughout camp. I know friends were made this summer

and hopefully they will last a life time.

Now it is time for us all to return to the “real world”, I hope you will take

these memories, along with the new skills you learned and share them with

your friends. I hope you will use your potential throughout the year to make

a positive influence on those around you.

Work hard in school, be well, and return to your Golden Slipper Family in

    2016.

    Sincerely,

    Uncle Tom O’Neill

  • Saying Goodbye is Hard to Do

How fortunate I am to have something so dear to my heart that makes saying

goodbye so hard. As the summer of 2015 comes to an end, tears fill my eyes to be

leaving all the wonderful people who have touched my life these past two months.

Watching all my girls overcome new challenges, make new friends and discover

new things has been a joy and pleasure. We have all learned to live together as a

family, understanding and embracing our likenesses and differences. It is truly

the love of Golden Slipper Camp that allows us to breakdown the walls. Hand in

hand each day we walk, sing and play while all along building bonds that will last

a lifetime. Our hearts will forever be touched by the essence of GSC.

When I think of all of you over the winter months, I will never forget the sparkle

in your eyes, the spirit in your hearts and the love of GSC we all share and believe

in. It has been an honor and privilege to be the girl’s head counselor of Golden

Slipper Camp again this summer. I dry my tears as I realize it is not goodbye, for

you will remain in my heart until I see you next summer!

I look forward to spending the summer of 2016 back at GSC!

  • To my lovely Strauss Village campers,

Whoa! What an exciting encampment! Since the beginning we have had so

many big events, it's hard to imagine how camp would have been without them. We

started with Uncle Bubba's new Epic Adventure, where we discovered different realms of

the nerd universe. Soon after, we took part in Israel Day, which ended with a concert by

none other than Rick Recht. Plus, let's not forget our Dad-Bod Leagues. Thon,

Backwards Day, and the Halloween Dance...I mean movie, lead us into an intense

weekend filled with Made in SPOON-merica, Golden Citizen, and MTV Night. And the

Marvel Superhero Olympic Bowl broke out! Once we recovered from our four days of

craziness, we experienced Camplified, another concert showcasing up and coming artists,

and closed out the summer with the "Into the Woods" themed Dinner Dance down at the

lake! All of these activities were neat, but you are what made them the huge successes

they were. Thank you for taking advantage of all camp had to offer, and making this a

phenomenal summer! I hope all of you have a wonderful school year, and that I see all of

    you return next summer!

    To my amazing staff,

I could not have made it through this summer without each of you. You all

brought something unique to Strauss that turned us into the powerhouse village that we

were. I cannot thank you enough for all of the hard work and dedication you put into

making this summer the best our campers have ever seen. I genuinely wish all of you

well through the upcoming year, and expect to see each of your names come up on the

    staff list for next summer.

    Much Love,

    Aunt Courtney

energetic bunk. The spirit and happiness you all share is a truly wonderful thing and I

feel you can be yourself enough to joke with one another, your counselors, and myself.

Bunk O, you girls are some of the most genuine girls I have met. The unity you girls

years. Let’s see what these beautiful ladies have been up to over the past 15 years…

Lizzie “Slizzard/ Darla” Bogomolny became the next hostess on the TLC show What

Not to Wear. She loves that she can incorporate her blunt personality and love for fashion

into her work. She lives a fabulous life on the Upper East Side. She is married to New

York’s finest plastic surgeon, a Russian Jew of course. They have two beautiful little girls

and a toy poodle named Mitsy.

Jordyn “Twin-Talks A Lot” Citron became a famous reporter on E! News. She uses

her keen sense for knowledge to obtain the juiciest celeb gossip to report on. She is

currently dating one of the producers of the show. The two live in a condo on Rodeo

    Drive in California.

Talya “Sassy Pants” Cooper is now married to the boy she was dating when she was a

waitress. She wanted to get out of the suburbs and live in a big city where she was able to

speak her mind and argue, but only until the street lights came on, then she had to go

    back into the house.

Tierna-Nikol “Legs” Flannery went on to become a full time Elastic Woman

impersonator at Disney World. She wears her Nike socks under her costume just in case

anyone in the park needs to get schooled in volleyball. She is now married to a

professional soccer player and their three children are all allergic to Benadryl.

Madison “Flirts- A Lot” Kulliver settled down with her original Slipper flame, Daniel

Beaver. After having an on and off fling since their waiter year, they decided to make

things exclusive. Beaver proposed shortly after that and the two got married in Rabbi

Shlomo’s temple. The two are now living in the Bucks County with their two children.

Joann is a very happy mother in-law.

Madelyn “Not- Madison” La Rue- Lovett graduated Stanford with degree in biology.

She continued to live on her nerdy science dream and went to Medical School. She

married one of her med professors. The two moved to Africa and opened their own clinic

    to help African children.

Sophia “Noodles” Lombardo realized that moving wasn’t such a bad idea, so she

decided to become a K-pop band manager so that she could travel the world. She was

able to meet a good friend in Canada which whom she speaks to everyday of her life.

They make time to chat despite the time differences.

Barri “Basketball Babe” Miller decided to become a physical therapist so that she

could properly take her of herself whenever she got hurt. As she gained more experience,

she decided to be an athletic trainer for the Philadelphia Union professional soccer team,

the team which her brother plays on.

Katie “Doll Face” Potts went to college as a business management major and became

the CEO of Pringles. She had her wedding on the beach, where the bottom of the hair and

veil trailed behind her in the sand. Her and her husband’s first dance was to Lilman

    Anthem Part 65.

Nikki “Shupak” Tashof now lives in Los Angeles where she owns her own restaurant

called “Speedy McGee.” She realized her true waitress abilities when she was praised for

her quick movements throughout the dining hall in 2015. In her spare time, she uses her

silly giggles and quirky personality to be a clown at children’s birthday parties. Her

brother Josh lives 10 minutes away from her, her husband, and their six kids.

  • Vanessa “Nature Baby” Valencia after having an internship at the Philadelphia Zoo got

a job working as a spokesperson for Animal Planet. She loved that she could embrace her

love of nature in her career. She spends her free time at her mountain house with her life

    partner, daughter, and son.

Quarteniiy “Quartini” Williams hit stardom after she got her big break on the Voice.

Her singing career is going really well. She has her second album coming out in the fall.

She is known for the octaves that her voice can hit. Her fans love her adorable nature and

    warm smile.

Aunt Abby “Abbichka/Mom” Gershman graduated top of her class from Temple Law

School and is partner in Todd Henry’s law firm. She lives in Bucks County with her

    husband, a Jewish Doctor of course. She is most proud of her three beautiful children;

two twin boys, one little girl, and dog named Matzah Ball. She spends her free time being

    a stage parent.

Aunt Ayanna “E! News” Clark finally got her college crush to love her, and they’ve

been married for 5 years. They had a wedding in Citizens Bank Park for all of

Philadelphia to see. She threw the first pitch in her wedding dress for the final game in

the 2025 World Series where the Phillies won their first title since 2008. Living in Los

Angeles, they have a dog named Lily and 2 kids.

Aunt Jade “Zip Zap” Knox became a music promoter at festivals around the world. She

went back to school to learn how to produce music, with a minor in business. She is now

graduated and owns an AT&T store, where she also uses her music skills to make

ringtones for the cell phones in her store.

Ladies, we love you more than you will ever imagine. We know all of you have the

potential to do great things in the future, and we hope your dreams and aspirations will

take you far. PLEASE let us know if you ever need anything throughout the year, we’ll

    always be there for you!

XOXO, Aunt Ayanna and Aunt Abby.

  • Boys’ Bunk Notes

  • The Boys Side 2015 2nd Session

    Dear Boys,

There were highs and there were lows but we did it together and hopefully you made this

summer one of the most memorable ones of your young lives. You whipped and you

Nae Nae’d, you challenged yourself on the high ropes course, you tried new foods in the

dining hall, you experienced the camp Israel Day, you competed in a camp triathlon on

Wacky Backwards Day, you gave it your all during Olympics and went into the woods

    during the dinner dance.

To the boys’ side staff, thank you once again for all of the hard work that you did, thanks

for the effort that you gave to the campers. If you are exhausted at the end of the

summer, it’s because the effort that you gave the boys side is evident in the smiles of the

    boys.

To the boys’ side campers, thank you for making my first summer as Boys Head

Counselor a great one and I want everyone to try their best in school, study hard, play

hard and then I’ll see you all back in the summer of 2016.

Remember, clear eyes, full hearts, can’t lose.

    Uncle Mike Noble

    Boys Head Counselor 2015

  • Dear Vogelson Village,

It's hard to believe that a second encampment has gone by and that our summer is coming

to a close. It's going to be so hard for me to say goodbye to all you fantastic campers and

counselors. If I am able to come back as Vogelson Village Leader next year, I hope that

my village is as good as it was this year.

For the second straight encampment, Vogelson Village was an awesome place to be. All

62 of you grew in one way or another and it was an awesome thing to watch. You each

brought something to Vogelson, whether it was your first time here or your fifth year here

and it made Vogelson a great village to lead.

Whether it be riding a bike or shooting a bow or learning the Spoon Maneuver in GaGa,

you all have learned a new skill. Gentleman, I hope you know how proud I am of you

and all that you have achieved. Now good luck in your schooling this year and I will,

    hopefully, see you next year.

To my counselors; I cannot thank you enough. You guys have been exceptional this

summer. Without you guys doing what you do, I would not have been able to do my job

nearly as effectively. Thanks for this summer boys and here’s to next year and hoping

that it just as successful as this year.

Well gentleman, I have to go. And unlike last encampment, when a lot of you came back

for second encampment, I won't see any of you for 10 long months. I will leave you with

the words of country singer Tim McGraw, "We all take different paths in life, but no

matter where we go, we take a little of each other everywhere."

    Much Love,

    Uncle Zach
