1 Kings 19:1-8

Jezebel threatens Elijah

Elijah afraid...flees

Lord provides rest, food...via angel

Elijah runs to Horeb (Sinai), mountain of God


1 Kings 19:9-14

Lord asks Elijah twice why he was there

Elijah responded by focusing on himself, troubles

God not in the great wind, earthquake, fire...in the gentle wind


1 Kings 19:15-21

Lord tells Elijah to go to wilderness of Damascus...

Hazael king over Aram

Jehu king over Israel

Elisha as prophet in his place

Elijah did as instructed


1 Kings 20:1-12, Ben-hadad and Ahab

Ben-hadad and 32 other kings besiege Samaria

Demanded silver, gold, beautiful wives, children

Ahab agreed initially...

Ben-hadad then demanded whatever he wanted...Ahab sought elders...said no!


1 Kings 20:13-14, a prophet to Ahab

Lord tells Ahab through a prophet that He would deliver Israel

Ahab questioned for insight/help


1 Kings 20:15-21, the first battle

Arameans driven away

1 Kings 20:22, prophet to Ahab

strengthen army

prepare

Ben-hadad will return


1 Kings 20:23-27, the Arameans

Ben-hadad counseled by servants

fight on plains due to Israel’s “mountain gods”

remove the 32 kings

replace army


1 Kings 20:28, a man of God to Ahab

God would give victory

So that Ahab would know that God is the Lord


1 Kings 20:29-34, the second battle

Israel defeats Aram

City walls of Aphek fall on 27k men

Ahab makes covenant with Ben-hadad

Should not have done so

God had delivered Ben-hadad twice


Ahab’s life would be required in exchange for Ben-hadad’s because he should have killed Ben-hadad

Ahab did not repent

Ahab was sullen and vexed


1 Kings 21:1-4

Ahab seeks to buy land from Naboth

Naboth refuses based upon Lev/Num

Inheritance


1 Kings 21:5-1, Jezebel

daughter of King of Sidon

intro Ahab to Baal worship

supported Baal’s and Asherah’s prophets

killed Lord’s prophets..tried to kill Elijah


Jezebel’s plan

deception

murder

“fast”

falsely accuse Naboth

whole city killed him


1 Kings 21:17-29

Elijah told Ahab he would die in the same place where Naboth did

Jezebel’s end foretold...eaten by dogs

Ahab humbled himself!

Lord saw...would not bring judgment in Ahab’s lifetime.
