Examine the truth, & reset your goals for 2016by Kevin D. Crone

You wonder where the time went. Life just goes by doesn’t it? You and I forget about the choices we made along the way. We give too much credibility to past circumstances.

Yesterday is gone. But the past can teach us

• what’s important,

• where we need to get better, and

• what we need to do.

We are where we are because of goals … or the lack of them.

Now the question is: Will we examine the truth, reset the goals and plans for 2016, and make it a great year?

Lately, I’ve been saddened to hear of people I know who are facing terrible health problems, yet they con-tinue to do the things that cause their problems. Why can’t they set some simple goals and a plan that pulls them toward better health, less depression and more happiness? It doesn’t make sense. We seem to forget that we have the power to choose and reset life.

Business is the same. Strong leaders will examine the current reality, reset goals and plans, and make re-quired changes no matter how difficult it is. Others will let things stay the same but expect more. Good luck

with that approach. They’re going to be eaten alive by the marketplace!

Let’s not let that happen to us. Let’s re-examine our situation:

• Are we adequately supplying the marketplace with what they’re willing to pay for?

• Are we adapting to shifting markets and motivations?

• Are we selling and marketing a better story to sophis-ticated buyers?

• Are we involving our people in determining what needs to be done?

• Do our people have relevant goals to make it hap-pen? Do we?

• Are we adding the best people who match up with what’s needed for the business to grow?

• Are we developing and coaching our people so they will hit those goals? Are we developing ourselves?

Whether it’s personal, business, or both, you can pre-pare for a better life and business. We don’t have to accept circumstances if they can be changed – and most can. Let’s remember to fight for happiness and business success.

What is 2016 going to be for you? Let’s wipe the slate clean, reset the plans and get moving. You know what to do.

Subscribe to the Monday Morning Mentor and start your week off right with caoching tips from Kevin D. Crone.

Cheryl Grainger began her career at Apple Self Storage as a part-time employ-ee. After three months, she was promoted to facility manager. That’s when she was first introduced to Dale Carnegie® by her employers.

For Cheryl, the Dale Carnegie Course was a life-changer. So much so that she looked to Dale Carnegie’s Leadership Training for Managers (LTM) when she was ready to take on a bigger challenge in the workplace. She calls LTM a three-day whirlwind of practical training that helped her build on those core competencies learned in the Dale Carnegie Course.

Now, Cheryl is the Ontario Regional Manager at Apple Self Storage. In just a few short years, she has gone from managing one facility to 15 across the prov-ince.

Key Takeaways for Cheryl

• Dale Carnegie principles can be applied in both personal and professional life.

Most Important Carnegie Principle: Don’t criticize, condemn or complain

Three Most Important Things Learned:

• Effective communication.• Listen.• Avoid stress. (“It isn’t worth it.”)

Biggest Challenge: Public speaking

When I first started Dale Carnegie and had to give my first speech, I felt like I needed bumper pads to stand up in front of everyone. My legs were wobbly, I felt like I was about to pass out. I still get shaky knees, but it’s a process and you need to keep working at it.

It had to be you...Becoming more promotable

What is the Dale Carnegie Bootcamp? This three-day intensive seminar is geared to those individuals who want the Dale Carnegie experience, but don’t have the time to take part in the tradi-tional eight-week Course.

Instead, the Boot Camp is offered over three consecutive days, running from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Does this all sound a little familiar? The Bootcamp is our new name for the Dale Carnegie Immersion Course. Same fantastic content, same fantastic results. Check it out online.
