The Singapore Spintronics Corsortium or SG-SPIN was established in December, 2014 by

Electronics and Applied Materials, Inc. collectively. The main objective of SG-SPIN is to

facilitate research collaborations between universities and industries in the field of

spintronics.

A group of researchers from Germany, Japan, the U.K. and the Czech Republic in

September, 2014 found an effective way that can manipulate electron spin using electric

fields in the place of magnetic fields. This approach has a capability of reducing the power

and energy consumption of computers and the miniature design helps in reducing the

amount of heat generated from the device.

Scientists at EPFL collaborated with Université Paris-Sud and Paul Scherrer Institute in

October, 2014 and demonstrated that a common insulator can be used as a spintronics
