Never before has it been so con-venient and practical to monitor and control a packaging plant.

Giró introduces the new checkweig-her CHW-S60. A verifier scale that is intended to be installed at the bag exit of any fruit and vegetable packaging line. It can process up to 60 bags per minute allowing, in many cases, using a single unit to verify the weight of any line (weighing and packaging ).

The CHW-S60 is bascially a 2,1 meters length conveyor composed of three indepen-dent motorized sections. The first section takes care of individua-lizing bags to arrive conveniently separated to the weighing area. The second section is the one which weights through a high precission load cells. “Clip to Clip”

Giró launches a new concept that improves the appearance of the current clipped net packaging: the “Clip2Clip” (read it Clip to Clip). This variation of the clipped net bag is the incorporation of a label attached to both edges of the package, that’s why it is called clip to clip.

It is possible to make the Clip2Clip label with multiple shapes to customize the package design. The resulting effect using different sizes and shapes is surprising and a remarkable differentiation pack appearance can be

obtained.

A new style for the clipped net bags

Besides the amazing visual impact, one of the main attrac-tions of Clip2Clip bag, is that the label is made of 100% Polyethylene and, with the exception of the clip, all the bag is made with the same raw material (HDPE), for better recycla-bility.

Both CA-10 (the only net clipping bagger in the world that feeds net reels) and CA-9 can be equipped with the new Clip2Clip labeler

Clip Clip2

Two options to manufacture Clip2Clip

The Clip2Clip label can be printed

with thermal-transfer technology, allowing the packer to incorporate va-riable information, such as barcodes, variety and origin of the fruit, tracea-bility data, price, weight, etc.

Giró offers two alternatives to make the Clip2Clip package. Both the CA-10 and CA-9 clipping machines can be equipped with Clip2Clip labeling device.

The CA-10 is the only net clipping ba-gger in the world that feeds net reels, offering high productive efficiency, fewer stops due to change of consu-mable and significant savings in ope-rating costs. The CA-9 is the standard clipping ma-chine with automatic tube change.

Clip2Clip labeler provides a multi-plicity of variants to the CA-10 and CA-9 machines as it allows making Clip2Clip packaging but also the known and traditional clipped net bag with wineglass label. In both cases it is possible to use composite labels

(Polypropylene + thermal paper) or polyethylene labels.

The versatility of the packaging is assured thanks to the multi-tude of label variants (size and shape) that Clip2Clip labeller can handle. Labels from 40 to 100 mm wide and 160-380 mm length can be used.

Giró, always concerned about protect our custo-mers investments in pac-kaging machinery, has Clip2Clip labelers that can be installed on the existing CA-9 and CA-10 clipping machines, so that any of these models may be updated without requiring new investments in packaging machinery.

Smart consumables for a clipper

Some years ago Giró revolutionized the world of packaging with the intro-duction of Smart Consumables Sys-tem (SCS) associated with GirBagger packaging system.

The exclusive SCS system by Giró, allows communication between con-sumables and packaging machine so that it automatically reads the most re-levant consumable information. This information, recorded on an RFID tag is basically consumable code, ma-terial type and the traceability data.

The SCS system was only compatible with GirBagger machines and now also supports the CA-10 clipping ba-gger.Thanks to SCS both the net and the Wineglass labels to feed a CA-10 are read automatically by the machine without requiring any additional task for the operator. At the time of loading of the consumables, the CA-10 detects the RFID tags attached to the net and wineglass reels and loads the informa-tion contained therein. With this information, the machi-ne can recognize whether the loaded supplies are adequate to perform the required package and, if not, warn the operator that there is an error in the fed consumable.

The SCS system is perfectly integra-ted with GirControl Plus, so that the information read by the machine is transferred to GirControl Plus being stored in its database. This allows to save all data traceability of consuma-bles used in each production batch and that have been stored in the database GirControl Plus.

Without any manual operation -which saves time and prevents human mis-

takes- all the Giró con-sumables traceability data are stored in GirControl Plus. In case of any incidence of consu-mable quality it is very easy to recover the traceability information because a unique code per each consumable reel was recorded in GirControl Plus. This information can be sorted by produc-tion batch,

With unique traceability code, Giró knows all the details about the produc-tion process of the reel (machines and operators involved) and lots of raw materials and other components used in the manufacture of consumable.

Never before has been possible as efficient and reliable automated system that allows a perfect har-mony between a packaging ma-chine and materials used.Simply loading reels of Giró consumables (net and labels) in the CA-10 makes it recognizes them, check if they are suitable to perform the required pack and at the same time, stores data traceability of each consumable in GirControl Plus so they can be consulted whene-ver necessary.

CA-10 the world’s first netbag clipping machine with a smart consumables system

Thanks to the SCS, errors are avoided in the use of

consumables and traceability information is automatically

stored

Stop costly mistakes in your plant

GirBagger: 8 packaging styles with one machineThe world’s most versatile packaging makes up to 8 different netbag styles A machine for all needsWith nearly 2.000 units sold worldwi-de the GirBagger machine is probably the most recognized in the horticul-tural packaging business. A range of machines that has evolved over the 10 years since its introduction into the market and is now an undisputed lea-der. GirBagger is a versatile machine in many ways:• It is versatile because thanks to di-

fferent versions, allows adequate treatment for many types of pro-ducts such as potatoes, onions, oranges, tangerines, kiwis, avoca-dos, lemons, apples or peaches

• another machine versatility is the ability to incorporate and interconnect many elements or devices that improve the quality of packaging plant, such as intelligent recognition sys-tem supplies (SCS), inter-c o n n e c t i o n with GirCon-trol Plus, the ability to add a checkweigher CHW-G30 or

adapt integrated Spotless film cen-tering system without visible mark

• and is especially versatile for the possibility of up to 8 different va-riants of bags.

No other machine on the market with this versatility. Its flexibility is highly appreciated by packers and producers because it allows them to optimize their investment in machinery, due to

the cost of it but also for the floor area saving. The range of packages and va-riants makes this machine, provides a great productivity in any packaging plant.

But that’s not all. One of the great fea-tures of the GirBagger machine is its ability to grow according to your ne-eds. It is not necessary to start with the most equipped and expensive mo-

del but any model can be complemen-ted in the future to be modified to the requirements of packaging.

And do not forget something very im-portant: no other machine on the mar-ket offers the quality of the package you get with GirBagger.

Giró consumables: Integrated traceability in all the process

Giró currently offers information and control system of consumables traceability than any other company in the industry can offer. A bidirectional integrated system, from raw material to the fruit bag and from the bag to the raw material, allows Giró to know which batch of raw material, which operators were involved and which productive resources have been used in the consumables that made a package that can be found at the point of sale or in the hands of the consumer. This is only possible thanks to strict reporting pro-cesses and internal control and also being the first company in the world offering the SCS (Smart Consumables System) intelligent packaging system that performs an automated reading of consumables involved in the packaging.

Line-Pack & Twin-PackWhen the fruit becomes an snackAnother novelty Giró launches in Frutilogistica’2015 is the Line-Pack with its va-riant Twin-Pack. The Line-Pack is a pac-kage designed for products sold in small sizes, 2 or 3 units. It is ideal for spherical fruit like and well calibrated, such as clementines or other small citrus.Since the container is tight its attrac-tiveness is based on a regular and aligned arrangement and it is not re-commended for oblong or irregularly sized products.

The Line-Pack uses the labeling Clip2Clip, being able to use the size and shape more suitable for every need and every creative idea. Allows both vertical and horizontal orienta-tion of the package.

The recommended label size ranges between 160 mm (2 pieces) and 210 mm (3 pieces), with widths of 50 to 60 mm.

However Giró pro-poses to vary the shape of the label for each use, so the exclu-sivity, customiza-tion and attractive package is achieved.

Line-Pack at the Point of SalesLine-Pack is an ideal impulse sales package. An attractive and small pac-kage for immediate consumption or to

take to work or school and make

a healthy breakfast. The Giró Line-Pack offers a functio-nal and elegant way to show it in the POS. A shipping-display box that can hold about 36 Twin-Pack units (2 pie-ces each) or 24 Line-Pack units with 3 pieces each. The box, customizable with the right message to the product and the brand of the producer or retailer, is easily converted into a magnificent inclined exhibitor to closely offer the product to the consumer.

Easy open Line-PackThe Line-Pack offers a new way to sell the fruit. To make it practical, Giró has developed a new easy open woven mesh. An extremely light and ecological net (less than 1 gr of plas-tic packaging!) having a longitudinal zones identified with another color

where the consumer can easily open the package. With the Easy-Open net (patented Giró) it is not necessary to use any cutting element to open the package and it is very easy even for children.

With Easy Open net it is very easy to open a Line-Pack. Pull the fingers on the area of the net with dif-ferent color and opens easly without effort.

Some samples of different Line-Pack labels

CA-9L: the baggerThe Line-Pack can be made with the new CA-9L bagging machinee equipped with a Clip2Clip labeling device. CA-9L is a modified version of the known CA-9 clipping machine with smaller diame-ter tubes that allow the align-ment of the fruit. Initially the ‘C’ version, ideal for citrus or rounded fruits without pe-duncle, will be launched. In the future there will be an ‘F’ version for all types of products that incorporate a system for in-troducing the fruit that avoids snags with the mesh, highly re-commended, for example, for packaging onions in Line-Pack.

One concern of all food operating companies is the quality control throughout the production flow and distribution chain.Traceability is a key component in the management of quality control and it should also include all the information of the packaging process and materials used therein.

Once again Giró shows its ability to innovate and bring solutions to the market. Giró has been developing a traceability system integrated than any other company in the industry can cu-rrently offer. To achieve this goal it was necessary to carry out two major projects: the management of internal traceability during the production and logistics process that takes place in Giró and, secondly, to develop a method that allows packers manage adequately and automated traceability of consu-mables used for each package.

Traceability in our production process

Giró makes exhaustive management of internal traceability. Any raw mate-rial received in any of Giro factories in the world is immediately labeled, revised by quality laboratory and re-gistered in the ERP-SAP computer system. All subsequent steps that are made in the production process, both in making the nets as in the production of printed goods, are also recorded and coded in the system. In each check-point of the manufacturing process we use labels with barcodes and readers to record the information in the sys-tem, both in regard to semi-finished and operators involved in each task as well as industrial machinery used in every process. At the end, the finished product also conveniently identified, has been registered in the management system with all its history.

The process does not end here. The

product is supplied to our customers and it is also imperative that the in-formation also travel with the product, not only including those traceability data on the label but also in the do-cuments accompanying the shipment like delivery notes or invoices.Besides all this sophisticated system Giró incorporates the finished product with RFID tags that can be read by our packaging machines equipped with SCS (Smart Consumables System).

Traceability in the packing plant

When the Giró SCS consumable rea-ches the packing plant, the GirBagger machines or CA-10 can read automa-tically (without further operator in-tervention), consumables: both net as Girfilm and labels. Simply loading the reels on the machine, it takes a reading of the consumable, verifies that it is adequate to start production as it has been previously reported and records

the traceability code (unique for each reel) in the GirControl Plus database.

Simultaneously, during the develop-ment of packaging batch, each bag can be labeled by incorporating a tracea-bility code that generates the labeling machine, identifying packaging ma-chine and the date and time of the bag-ging. This information is also stored in the GirControl Plus database.

The package is delivered to the consu-mer with a tracking code that allows the packer to know what packaging machine and when it was made. With that information it can be obtained from the GirControl Plus database all the consumables traceability codes used specifically in that bag. This in-formation allows Giró to find all the information related to production: raw materials batch used, production da-tes, industrial machinery and opera-tors involved in that shift.
