Window Ultrabag Creative proposals with

Giró expands this year the range of packaging options with the new Win-dow Compact. A new concept that al-lows to increase the creative packag-ing offer made with the GirBagger machines.

Thanks to this launch, the range of Window bags allows tackle two dif-ferent types of packaging design: the Window Compact, ideal for display horizontally and 300 g to 1 kg and Window Ultrabag a vertical bag ideal to contain bigger quantity of fruit from 0.5 to 3 Kg.

Window Compact

Window Compact is a package intend-ed for horizontal display at the point of sales. It is ideal for sizes from 0.3 to 1 Kg and especially suitable for small and mid caliber fruit. It is a very compact package -hence its name- which optimizes package size according to the content. To make this pack it is necessary to use a GirBagger UB-50, UB-60 or UB-65 equipped with an optional accessory for making the Window Compact. It is also based on Ultrabag style but reducing the length of the package and using a film with window. The rec-ommended window dimensions are 140x60 mm or 130x60 mm depending on the size of the bag.

Window Ultrabag

On the other side, the Window Ultra-bag is based on the well known Ultra-bag system in which there has been a small but noticeable change: a win-dow has been included in the film that allows content visibility through the mesh, giving a new look to the pack-age.

Window Ultrabag is the only package in the world that allows to adapt the shape and position of a window ac-cording to the image or design printed on the film, offering an innovative and attractive alternative for packaging. With this unique feature, the consumer can see the product through a cut in the bag with a shape that is integrated into its design.

GirBagger machines UB-50, UB-60 or UB-65 can produce Window Ul-

trabag packs without any optional ac-cessory as it was an standard Ultrabag package, with the only difference of using a windowed Girfilm.

Giró can supply the W-Girfilm mak-ing the window position and shape ac-cording to the design. The size and shape of the window may vary depending on the graphics of the film and the designer’s creativity. It can not exceed 60 mm wide and 125 mm length for a film UB or UP-320 and 145 mm wide.

Giró launches a new concept that improves the appearance of the current clipped net packaging: the “Clip2Clip” (read it Clip to Clip).

This variation of the clipped net bag is the incorporation of a label attached to both edges of the package, that’s why it is called clip to clip.It is possible to make the Clip2Clip label with multiple shapes to customize the package design. The resulting effect using different sizes and shapes is surprising and a remarkable differentiation pack appearance can be obtained.

A new style for the clipped net bags

Both CA-10 (the only net clipping bagger in the world that feeds net reels) and CA-9 can be equipped with the new Clip2Clip labeler

Clip Clip2

Two options to carry out Clip2ClipGiró offers two alternatives to make the Clip2Clip package. Both the CA-10 and CA-9s clipping machines can be equipped with Clip2Clip labeling device.

The CA-10 is the only net clipping bagger in the world that feeds net reels, offering high productive effi-ciency, fewer stops due to change of consumable and significant savings in operating costs. The CA-9s is the standard clipping machine with automatic tube change.

Clip2Clip labeler provides a multi-plicity of variants to the CA-10 and CA-9s machines as it allows mak-ing Clip2Clip packaging but also the known and traditional clipped net bag with wineglass label. In both cases it is possible to use com-

posite labels (Polypropylene + ther-mal paper) or polyethylene labels.

The versatility of the packaging is assured thanks to the multi-tude of label variants (size and shape) that Clip2Clip labeler can handle. Labels from 40 to 98 mm wide and 160-300 mm length can be used.

Giró, always concerned about protect our custom-ers investments in pack-aging machinery, has Clip2Clip labelers that can be installed on the existing CA-9s and CA-10 clipping machines, so that any of these models may be updated without requiring new investments in packaging machinery.

* Clip2Clip (and its logotype) is a registered trademark of Grupo Giró

Clipped packagingThe clipping machines

Besides the amazing vi-sual impact, one of the main attractions of Clip-2Clip bag, is that the label is made of 100% Polyeth-ylene and, with the excep-tion of the clip, all the bag is made with the same raw material (HDPE), for better recyclability. The Clip2Clip label can be printed with thermal-transfer technology, al-lowing the packer to incorporate vari-able information, such as barcodes, variety and origin of the fruit, trace-ability data, price, weight, etc.

Dynamic weighing or Static weighing system?

8 GIRO MAGAZINE FEBRUARY 2016www.giropack.com

Dynamic weighers: theNew EXACT 100, the big

Most automatic fruit weighers, and particularly of citrus, are based on a rather simple principle. There are multiple buckets filled with small amounts of fruit (one or a few units). Every bucket with its contents is in-dividually weighted and after know-ing all the individual bucket weights is carried out a combinatorial op-eration to find the target weight (the package you want to be obtained) by adding several buckets.Conceptually, a static weigher con-sists of a number of feeding channels (usually between 8 and 16) with a bucket associated to every channel. The buckets are static, there is not moving, and also static weighted . The fruit to be weighted is moved through the vibrating channel and introduced into the corresponding bucket. Once the bucket is filled it needs to be stabilized and finally weighted through load cells. It is ob-tained one weight measurement per bucket.

Subsequently a microprocessor takes care of combinations between these ‘n’ buckets (remember, usually be-tween 8 and 16) for all the possible combinations, or sums of weights of buckets, and choose the one that best sum approaches the target weight.

How does a dynamic weighing? The difference is that there are sev-eral carousels (usually 3 or 4) each formed by several buckets (15 to 30). These carousels are continuous-

ly rotating and a feeding system fills the buckets with one or a few pieces of fruit. The buckets with fruit inside are continuously on the go. For each carousel there is a load cell and the buckets are dynamically weighed, one by one, as they pass through the weighing zone were the load cell is located.

Static weigher bucket system: feeding chan-nels, weighing buckets and output belts

Carousel and buckets system of a dynamic weigher

A microprocessor is responsible to calculate all the combinatorial possi-bilities with the buckets (in this case may be more than 100), to reach the target weight. It is evident that the combinatorial capacity of a dynamic weigher is higher due to the higher number of buckets to combine.

PDG-4The PDG-4 is a “classic” in the world of dynamic weighing. It is the fourth generation of the best seller dynam-ic weighers worldwide. It is an ad-vanced machine that incorporates a number of advantages and benefits that will probably make the weigher for citrus best price / performance ra-tio in the market.• 60 bpm consistently (based on 1

Kg of fruit with enough combi-national caliber)

• Excellent citrus handling• Fully compatible GirControl

Plus connectivity providing pro-ductivity data and failure ratios in remote way

• Fruit feeding without elevator need

• 4 output conveyors to easily al-low up to 4 baggers

• Compact layout even installing up to 4 packaging machines.

• Color touch panel with a extreme-ly easy user interface thanks to

the intuitive icons• Easy access for cleaning and

maintenance

12 Tons of fruit per year

Feeding system with rollers to have good fruit ‘lamination’ and brushes to achieve

proper product dosage.

4 bidirectional output belts to feed up to 4 bagging machines

So dynamic weigher is recommend-ed rather than a static? The answer is not universal. If a machine is re-quired for fruit very accurately cali-brated, the answer is yes. A dynamic weighing is ideal for working with citrus because usually the product is distributed very calibrated. But a static weigher is perfectly valid for less demanding product calibration (e.g. potatoes or other vegetables). The advantage of a static weigher is its less mechanical complexity (no moving parts) and a lower cost for equal productivity. A dynamic weigher is usually more expensive than a static offering the same ‘output’. If there is no need to handle a very calibrated produce it is not needed to invest in a dynamic weigher.

Exact 100: The best citrus weigher in the worldGiró plans to launch in late 2016 the new citrus weigher Exact 100. A ma-chine with an innovative design ap-pointed to be the best citrus weigher manufactured ever.Giró’s engineering team invested more than 5 years of research and de-velopment to achieve an outstanding product which will become a break-through in the fruit processing busi-ness.

Exact 100 is a high productivity and extremely accurate dynamic weigher. A new and smart mechanical driving system together with a sophisticated algorithm are responsible to achieve the better bucket feeding according to the fruit caliber and target weight. A well balanced bucket feeding is very important to have the proper combi-national possibilities to find the target weight. An innovative system based on ro-botic fingers gives the right and pre-cise dose of fruit to each bucket. This

bucket feeding can be done at high speed allowing to fill up to 48 pieces per second in the 8 buckets.

The high capacity buckets are driven trough different carousels with a pre-cise continuos movement. The com-pletely new driving system is smooth and free of undesired vibrations.

Also, a unique design of the load cells system do the weight measurement achieving an accuracy of half gram per bucket, an unprecedented milestone in weighing fruit.

Highaccuracy(<10g)

Thanks to this set of new develop-ments (do not forget this machine has 6 different patents protecting different technological improvements) it’s pos-sible to achieve a high accuracy of 10 grams per dump at high output of 100 bpm of 1 Kg.

Exact 100 is a very versatile machine because it has 4 bidirectional output belts that enable to feed a multitude of packaging machines. An optimal con-figuration is to install four GirBagger machines or in a multi-format imple-mentation, can feed 3 GirBagger and 2 clipping machines like CA-9s or CA-10.

Another important aspect where Giró engineers take care in designing the Exact 100 is its easy maintenance and cleaning. In addition to employing ro-bust and reliable mechanical systems and easy accessibility to the compo-nents that may require maintenance, it has also designed for a simple and effective cleaning. The buckets can be easily removed by using one hand.

The 68 buckets of Exact 100 can be easily re-moved using only one hand

Easy maintenance

Together with the Exact 100 an auto-matic washer-sanitizing machine will be launched. This washer is ideal not only for cleaning but also sanitizing the buckets. Also it supports the PDG-4 buckets or other elements such as conveyor belts.

Checkweigher CHW-S60All the bags with the right weight

it can process 50 bags / min has an ac-curacy of +/- 5g. In the higher speed mode reaches the 60 bags / min while

Giró introduces the new checkweigh-er CHW-S60. A verifier scale that is intended to be installed at the bag exit of any fruit and vegetable packaging line. It can process up to 60 bags per minute allowing, in many cases, using a single unit to verify the weight of any line (weighing and packaging ).

The CHW-S60 is basically a 2,1 meters length conveyor com-posed of three independent motorized sections. The first section takes care of separating bags conve-niently so as to reach the weighing area individually. The second section is the one which weights through a high precision load cells. Finally the third one drives the bags to the output conveyor or reject them if they are not within the allowed weight range.

CHW-S60 weight ranges covers from 500g to 5.5kg, suitable for all common needs of the horticultural packaging.

The CHW-S60 can work in two modes. The most accurate way, that

weight accuracy decreases slightly to +/- 10gr.

This checkweigher has a touch screen that offers a complete and detailed in-formation. It can display a graph (his-togram) with the distribution of the weights obtained during the produc-tion batch, displays the information of all processed bags, which have been accepted and which have been rejected and the average weight of the batch.

Another of the outstanding fea-tures of CHW-S60 is its con-nectivity to GirControl Plus.

As a result, all the information pro-cessed by the CHW-S60 is sent to and stored in the GirControl Plus so it can be viewed and analyzed on demand. For example, all weights obtained by

CHW-S60 are saved into the GirCon-trol Plus, so the information of all in-dividual bag weight can be checked. Of course you can also access the data average, maximum and minimum weight and the number of bags pro-duced, accepted and rejected.

GBF 100: New net bag box filler system

Giró introduces a new product in its portfolio of packaging machinery: the GBF 100 a mesh bags box filler. This box filler machine enables high performance up to 100 bags per min-ute.It is designed to fill boxes with net bags from 500 g to 4 kg and operator can choose to fill in a one or two lay-ers.Support regular cardboard or plastic boxes with dimensions of 600x400 mm and heights between 180 and 240 mm.Depending on the filling requirements (number of bags, weight and layers) GBF 100 obtains different outputs that can be seen in Table 1. Productiv-ity increases when a double feeding conveyor is used, by channeling the bags through two independent collec-tors.During the filling and exit of the box, the box filler makes a vibrating and

compacting movement ensuring the proper positioning of the bags in the box and prevents bags to exceed the upper bound of the box.The GBF 100 can be supplemented with accessories that provide greater automaticity and reliability.

Weight control and rejection systemThis device can be installed at the exit of the box filler and automatically weights all the boxes. The operator

A new plant in Teruel: production capacity increase for a better serviceGiró expands its production capacity in 2016 with the opening of a new factory in Teruel (Spain). This factory is the 7th of Giro Group worldwide which now has five factories in Spain (two in Badalona, one in Ripoll, one in Alzira and Teruel), one in France and one in the United States.

With a floor area of nearly 7.000 sqm with future expansion options, the new Giró production plant is inaugurated to supplement the current capacity. With this new factory Giro reinforc-es its world leadership in production capacity of tubular mesh and printed film for fruit and vegetable packaging.

This modern facility where plastic ex-trusion and production of knitted tubu-lar mesh is made also has 1,400 sqm of storage capacity. With this expan-sion of productive and storage capac-

ity, we can do a better service to meet the demand of our customers.

One of the reasons why Giró has de-cided to locate the new facility in Ter-uel is its easy terrestrial communica-tion to supply both the Levant Spanish market -since Valencia is only 140 km away- and moving merchandise to our distribution center in Badalona plant (about 430 km).

Teruel plant will supply mainly Va-lencia area while Ripoll and Badalona

factories can concentrate most of their production for export. The new plant has become operation-al in late 2015 while the maximum

production capacity will be gradu-ally reached up to mid-2016, when the plant is expected to reach its peak per-formance.

The new facility in Teruel with 7.000 sqm build.

The 1,400 sqm warehouse allows to place 100 million meters of tubular mesh

Main entrance to the new factory in Teruel.

The growth in demand in many coun-tries on the five continents, along with the strategic decision to continue to be the company in the horticultural pack-aging business that offers better lead time, have motivated us to increase our production capacity and also increase the stocks of higher rotation products.

Giró is probably the only company in this market that has, within its con-trol processes, daily indicators of the quality of service to our customers, knowing all possible deviations from required delivery deadlines committed

to customers.

Any possible productive effect or unexpected increase in demand is quickly reflected in our indicators. This allows us to take corrective ac-tions to minimize the impact and try to achieve the delivery committed with our customer.

The new production plant and the new logistics center allow us to increase stock coverage, minimize risks and in-cidents and improve the availability of our key products.

Lead time is our top priority
