A client dropped in to talk with me and was clearly overwhelmed with the sheer volume of financial information out there. He went on to say
Opinions are like armpits, everyone has
them and most of them stink! It is true that
the world is full of sound bites from media
sources, financial talk shows and large finan-
cial institutions. Endless opinions, conflicting
messages and misinformation have created
financial confusion, even myths, about what
works, what doesnt and what to do next. I
am sure he is not alone in trying to figure out
how to sort myth from reality.
I think its time to eliminate some confu-
sion, get rid of some myths and help people
simplify their financial life with time-tested
guarantees and protection, cash accumulation
and abundant possibilities built into perma-
nent life insurance.
Thats right. Guarantees. Cash. Possibilities. Its that simple.
Sometimes a few truths can go a long way.
The reality is permanent life insurance
gives you all the guaranteed protection and
benefits you would normally associate with
life insurancebut thats only part of the
story. Permanent life insurance can also build
cash to help you achieve a world of possibili-
ties for you and your family.
One famous example of the value of cash
within permanent life insurance was dem-
onstrated by Walt Disney, who borrowed
from his policy to pursue his dream of the
Magic Kingdom. Many dont know that the
cash value of life insurance helped James
Cash keep JCPenney afloat through the Great
Depression. And I have some small busi-
ness owner clients that used the cash values
to help their business weather the financial
demands of the current recession.
I have clients who have used their permanent life insurance to: act as their own banker
start a business
buy a car
provide a down payment on a
vacation home
save for their childrens or grand-
childrens college education
build a bigger nest egg for retirement
supplement their retirement income
Here are a few things you should know about permanent life insur-ance: It should be the center of a sound,
well rounded financial plan.
Cash increases on a tax-deferred
basis and can be withdrawn, income-
tax-free in most cases.
You can take a loan from your policy
for any purpose.
In most states, cash in life insurance
is protected from creditors.
In most cases the death benefit of a
life insurance policy passes income
tax-free to beneficiaries.
While these benefits are not new, I have
found that many people are unaware of the
added value beyond the death benefit. The
bottom-line on permanent life insurance:
Its simple.
Its full of possibilities.
I believe its the most responsible
financial action a person can take as
a cornerstone to any financial plan.

OLD HOUSE RESTAURANT
This past year the Foundation funded over one-quarter of a million dollars in local programs. Some of these included: adult day care, housing for the homeless, our local Salvation Army, an elementary school violin program, early childhood education, and St. Josephs Family Center.
The Gilroy Foundations Board of Directors is aware of local needs. The Directors have developed a strategic plan which involves a four-year campaign to increase its assets from $7.5 million to $10 million. Achieving this goal would make an additional $200,000 available annually for grant giving. The Board of Directors particularly wants to increase the Community Needs and Field of Interest Funds. These types of gifts give the Foundation greater freedom to address a wider range of needed community grants.

Gilroys Got Talent
Nora Nora is an artist,
a muralist, a faux
painter, an interior
designer and a
contractor and full
of fun and whimsy.
Like her name, Nora is short and sweet. But in that little pack-age there is a huge amount of talent, drive, focus and fun. Nora is
a painter, a sculptor, a muralist, a faux painter, an interior designer,
and a contractor. A contractor? Years ago Nora was doing more and
more design work for new construction and remodeling projects.
She had a hard time getting respect from some of the workers. Her
desires and designs were not always communicated properly from the
general contractor to the workers, so she obtained her own general
contractors license and did the communicating herself.
Nora always knew she was an artist. She spent her early years in
Arizona with her namesake, Grandma Nora, an artist and teacher.
Nora spent a lot of time with her grandmother. When grandma
taught, Nora went with her to class because Grandma Nora enrolled
the younger Nora as a student! Nora went to high school in Gilroy,
lived in New York, San Francisco and Napa and is now back in
Gilroy
She does Venetian plaster and faux painting. It is hard to tell that
her faux marble walls are not real! These skills led her to a major
job in the Oakland Tribune Building matching some of the original
finishes on walls and floors. One of the other unique skills she has
developed is to make walls look like the favorite painting of a client.
The projects start with the painting. She then mimics the painting
style and colors on the walls surrounding the painting. The final
look is remarkable and very custom. Nora also does her own weld-ing on her outdoor sculptures!
Nora paints happy as she describes it. Often in her work, there
is a surprise, something unexpectedlike a real tree branch that
projects out of a painting, or a life-sized cow tribute to Van Gogh,
or a four-foot tall Chanel bottle. Paintings are rarely finished. They
are a work in progress until they are sold! Noras multifaceted tal-ents have given her opportunities to design and build an outdoor
fountain that blends real rock with extraordinary imitations. She has
done shadow paintings on man cave walls. She has designed and
built a bath filled with clouds, LED stars and soothing finishes.
