October 30, 2014 Dear Parents & Guardians, Every parent and teacher has heard a student ask, “Why am I learning this?” Greenwich High School is offering a unique answer to this question by launching Innovation Lab, a brand new college preparatory learning environment opening at GHS in the 20152016 school year for sophomores. We hope you’ll come to one of our six information sessions over the next month (dates on the next page) and learn more about this opportunity available to current freshmen. The idea for Innovation Lab was born out of the changes we see in the country’s most progressive workspaces. Advancements in technology have transformed the way we communicate with one another and altered our economy. Innovation Lab is dedicated to embracing these changes through interdisciplinary, projectbased learning. Students enrolled in Innovation Lab will pursue mastery of the same core subjects as their peers in a way that prepares them to identify and pose solutions to 21st century problems, succeed in college, and thrive in a knowledge and innovation based economy. Classrooms will also be reimagined in order to create a space conducive to collaboration and creative problemsolving. To complement the changes in physical space, instruction will be personalized and tailored to a student’s passions, needs, and interests. At its core, the mission of Innovation Lab is to build a bridge between school and the real world. In the real world, people don’t stop because a bell rings. We don’t think your students should have to either. Innovation Lab teachers will have the flexibility to reorganize time to allow deeper student learning in English, Math, Science and Social Studies. Outside of Innovation Lab, students will still benefit from everything that Greenwich High School has to offer, including World Language, Physical Education and Wellness classes, athletics, extracurriculars, and our wealth of elective courses. More information about the application process and next steps can be found on the next page and is available online at www.ghsinnovationlab.com/parents. We look forward to hearing from you soon and discussing how Innovation Lab may be right for your student.
