Photosensitive SeizuresA very small percentage of people may experience a seizure when exposed to certainvisual images, including flashing lights or patterns that may appear in video games.Even people who have no history of seizures or epilepsy may have an undiagnosed

Installation & ActivationInstallation

Insert theRisen DVD-ROM into your DVD drive. If your drives autoplayoption is activated, the Setup program will automatically start. Otherwiseyou must start the installation program manually. To do this, double click onthe My Computer icon on the desktop and then on the icon for your DVDdrive. After that, double click on the file Autostarter.exe. The Start Menu ofthe DVD will subsequently open. From here, click on the Install button andfollow the instructions on the screen to installRisen on your computer.

Starting the gameFrom DVDAfter you have inserted the Risen DVD-ROM into your DVD drive, the DVDs

Start Menu will open. From here, click on the Play button to start Risen fromDVD.

From the desktop or the Programs MenuIf the Risen DVD-ROM is already inserted in your DVD drive, yet the DVDStart Menu doesnt automatically open, you can also start Risen manually. To dothis, in the Start Menu, click on your desktop on Programs and then on Risen.From here, select the Play option. If you created a shortcut on the desktop duringinstallation of the game, you can also start the game by double clicking on theRisen icon on the screen.

Family SettingsFamily Settings in Games for Windows LIVE and Windows Vista parentalcontrols work together. Parents can restrict access to mature-rated content.Approve who and how your family interacts with others online with the LIVEservice. And set time limits on how long they can play. UninstallingYou can uninstallRisen later at any time. To do this, click on the item Programsin the Start Menu, then onRisen and select the uninstallRisen option. Pleaseremember that uninstalling the game via the Programs Menu in Windows Vistadoesnt work with User Account Control activated or only works in individualcases. In this case, removingRisen via the Programs and Features option in theWindows Control Panel of your computer is recommended.

What should I do if

the game wont install?Check to see if your computer meets the minimum system requirements forRisen. If theRisen DVD-ROM cannot be read by your DVD drive, pleasecontact the Deep Silver hotline.

... the game doesnt start or crashes?a) Check to see if your computer meets the minimum system requirementsforRisen.b) Check the settings of your computer: The drivers, particularly the

graphics driver, must be up to date. Youll find the most recent graphicsdrivers at your graphics card manufacturers homepage. Following thedriver update, you should also definitely reinstall the most recent version ofDirectX.c) Make sure that the most recent version of DirectX is installed on yourcomputer. You can download the most up to date version of DirectX on theinternet at directx.microsoft.com. You can also often find new versions ofDirectX on the cover CDs of gaming magazines.d) Check to see if DirectX is running smoothly on your computer. To dothis, open the Windows Start Menu by clicking on the Start button and thenselecting Run. Enter the command dxdiag in the window that subsequentlyappears and confirm with the enter key. the game judders?The vastly extensive and very graphically detailed gaming world of

Risen places fairly high demands on your computer hardware. Select theitem Settings in the Main Menu and use the System Menu, to graduallyreduce the performance of the game untilRisen runs fluidly. You canreduce, for example, the texture quality, the shadow details and the effectquality, which is generally recommended for older PCs.

After starting the game, you arriveautomatically at the Main MenuofRisen. From here, you candecide if you would like to starta new adventure, continue an oldone or save the current game. Inaddition, you also have the option ofadjusting the game to your particularpreferences in terms of controls,graphics, audio/music and systemperformance.

ContinueWhen you click on the Continue button, the last saved game is loaded.

GAme

Under this menu item, you have the option of starting a new game, as wellas loading or saving a game. You can backup a game as desired, even with aself-chosen label. Here you will also find an overview of the achievementsthatRisen has to offer.

AchievementsFor completing certain quests,eliminating a certain number of

opponents, learning specific skillsand a whole series of other things inRisen, you will obtain achievementpoints. Depending on how difficultit is to get an achievement, thenumber of achievement points willvary between 10 and 50. Altogetherthere are fifty achievements inRisen

with 1,000 achievement points in all. You will receive an overview of theachievements already attained and available under this menu item. Pleasenote that some achievements will only be unlocked over the course of thegame, so as not to give anything away about the plot!

SettingsHere you have the option of adjusting every aspect of the game to your ownneeds.

GraphicsIn this menu, you can select yourgraphics card and the resolutionyou want to use to playRisen. Inaddition, you also have the optionof regulating the brightness and thecolour contrast of the graphics usingthe sliding bars.

Hint If you have an older computer or if the game judders, a smallerscreen resolution with a lower frame rate is recommended indeed,you will be playing with less graphic details, but in return play will be fluid!

AudioHere you can adjust the

volume for the gamesindividual soundcomponents: voice,music, effects andambient noises. Inaddition, you canselect the audiodriver you would

KnapsackYou get to your inventory bypressing the I key. Here you willsee everything you are carryingwith you, arranged in a row ofcompartments for every type of item(weapons, alchemy, magic, letters,etc.). To cast a spell, click on therespective item in the inventory andthen aim at your target. If you wouldlike to equip another weapon oranother equipment item, you can dothis at the character menu (press theC key for this).

JournalAll unresolved tasks that you havecurrently accepted, as well as allthe quests already cleared can beseen in the journal. If at some pointyou just arent getting anywherein the completion of a task, take a

look at the journal, where the mostimportant information onthe respective questsare summarized.Youll find furtherinformation onthe journal and allof its functions in the

section The Journalfurther along in thismanual.

MapPress the M key in the game tocall up the world map and whereapplicable the region and questmap (if available in the area whereyou currently are located). Theworld map will help you to roughlyorientate yourself to the volcanicisland; the region map provides youwith a detailed overview of a fewimportant places, like for examplethe bandit camp, the harbour cityor larger dungeons; and the peoplerelevant for the completion of a taskare recorded on the quest map.

Character screenThe character screen providesyou with an overview of all yourattributes and skills. In addition, onthis screen you have access to yourinventory and can equip weapons,shields, rings and other equipment

WeaponsThere are two types of weapons: close combat weapons and ranged combatweapons.

Close combat weaponsYou can only ever use one close combat weapon at the same time. Whilebandits fight with swords and axes and in addition have the possibility whensword fighting of picking up a shield to fend off enemy attacks, stafffighters

need both hands to wield their sticks. You block by pressing the right mousebutton in combat. However, you cant simultaneously block and strike!

Ranged combat weaponsWith bows and crossbows, you can set your sights on enemies further awayin order to cause damage before you proceed to close combat. For rangedweapons you need bolts or arrows, which you can buy from merchants. Eveneliminated enemies carry projectiles from time to time.

Advice Combos - The more experienced you are in a weaponstechnology, the better the attacks that are available to you. In addition,you can join several different attacks into combos in order to rapidlystrike two, three or four times in succession. By pressing the directionalkeys you will furthermore alternate between the varieties of strike. It is

recommended to not always apply the same tactic, as various enemiesreact differently to your attacks.

HintIf you press the right mouse button with a drawn and combat-ready crossbow, crosshairs will appear, allowing you to better setyour sights on your target! Moreover, crossbow boltsfly in a straight line,while arrows bow!

Armour & HelmetsBesides different close and ranged weapons like swords, staves or bows,various shields, armour, helmets as well as jewellery are likewise availableto you inRisen. Every item is equipped with different values, which increaseyour attributes or skills. Whereas one gets a hold of common weapons andshields comparatively easily by taking them off of eliminated enemies forexample, it is difficult to get a hold of armour. Character StatsYour character distinguishes itself through certain attributes and skills thatimprove or are learnt over the course of the game. Attributes refers tophysical statistics like for example strength and dexterity, whereas things like

pickpocket or sneak fall into the category Skills.

HintArmour and shields offer variably good protection fromdifferent hostile attacks like for example blades, blunt weapons,

piercing weapons,fire or magic. The higher the armour value, the moreimmune you are against damage from the corresponding attacks.

AttributesThe attributes field of the character screen provides you with an overview ofyour physical abilities. In addition, you see your fraction affiliation here.

Level: The level shows you how experienced you are.

StrengthHigh strength enables you to use better weapons. Furthermore, you

cause more damage in close combat. In addition, you must have acertain minimum strength to be able to use particular weapons.DexterityHigh dexterity enables you to use better bows. Furthermore, youcause more damage in ranged combat.WisdomYou require wisdom to understand the magic seals.

Mana

Your current Mana. Your Mana shows you how much magicalpower you have at the moment.Life EnergyYour current life energy. Your life energy shows you how healthyyou presently are.

Learning PointsYour current learning points. You need learning points to increaseyour attributes and to learn new skills.

Hint In the course of the game you will come across bookstands,potions, herbs and tablets, which allow your attributes and skills to

increase. While bookstands and tablets permanently increase your wisdom,the ogre root for example positively affects your strength. Since trainers can

only ever increase your attributes and skills (in exchange for learningpoints) up to a certain extent, it is certainly recommended tofirst resort topotions and herbs when nobody can teach you anything more!

Blade ProtectionYour defensive value against most bladed weapons and monsters.

Blunt Weapon ProtectionYour defensive value against blunt close combat weapons.

Piercing Weapon ProtectionYour defensive value against piercing weapons and ranged combatweapons.Fire ProtectionYour defensive value against magical fire attacks.

Ice ProtectionYour defensive value against magical frost attacks.

Magic ProtectionYour defensive value against magic bullets.

SkillsSkills refers to things that you can learn from trainers.

FightingHere you see which fighting methods you master. All fighting skills can beenhanced in ten levels. Being a good fighter is vital to surviving, which iswhy you should attain true mastery of at least one fighting technique! Thebetter you are in one technique, the greater your chance of hitting yourenemy in battle and causing damage. In addition, further nuances are learnedwith every new fighting level, like for example new methods of attack orcombos. If a critical hit is scored in combat, the strength of the hero is added

onto the weapon damage!

Hint While banditsfight with swords and axes, mages and warriorsof the Order delight in using staves!

Advice Inexperienced shooters will hardly be successful at hittingtargets further away only by increasing your mastery of the

respective weapons technology (Archery or Crossbow) can you shoot

quicker. However, you should well consider who it is you have in yoursights, as a strike from an arrow will feel at best like a mosquito bite topowerful enemies like ogres or ash beasts and then in a fury, they willmake a dash to squish the annoying mosquito (that is to say: you)

CraftingYou can learn a series of technical skills to produce things. Whereasalchemy and smithing are each upgradeable in three levels to producebetter potions and weapons, prospect ore and gut animals are skills thatyou acquire at one time and immediately master perfectly.

Alchemy

Alchemists can create powerful potions from plants. To do this, youneed an alchemy table, the recipe of a particular potion as well asthe appropriate ingredients (vials, plants, wine).

SmithingYour skill in the smithing of weapons and jewellery. In orderto forge something, in addition to the appropriate tool (forginghammer), you need a blank sword as a working base as well as a

completely equipped forge.

Prospect OreWith this talent, you can prospect ore. In order to mine the various

SealThe understanding of the magical seal is the basic requirement forthe use of magic runes. The higher the seal, the more powerful therunes.Create ScrollsWith this talent, you can create magic scrolls.

ThieveryHere you see how good of a thief you are.

Open LocksYour skill in opening locks without a key. To pick a lock, you needa lock pick and must then enter the correct combination. Every time

that you press a wrong button (left or right), the lock pick will break,and you will have to start over again from the beginning. There arethree different lock strengths, which can only be picked at theirrespective skill levels: easy (four-digit combination), medium(six-digit combination) and difficult (eight-digit combination).

PickpocketYour skill in stealing from people.

AcrobaticsAcrobats are able to fall from great heights and roll so that they take

less damage.SneakWith this talent, you can move silently.Please note: You cant sneak with a drawn bow!

Hint The ideal complement to this skill is naturally the talentsneak, which allows you to look around in other peoples huts

unnoticed and to relieve chests of their hopefully lucrative contents!

Above the status bars for life energyand mana, you will find the quickbar.You can store eight items fromyour knapsack here, which you willthen have immediate access to witha push of the appropriate numericalkey. To place items in the quickbar,open the character menu or your

knapsack, select the correspondingitem, hold down the left mousebutton and drag the item to thedesired place in the bar. Voil!

QuickbarAbove the status bars for life energyand mana, you will find the quickbar.

TradeTo trade, speak to one of the manymerchants that populate the worldofRisen, and click on the itemsyou would like to buy or sell. Afterthat, one click on the button TradeShopping Basket will suffice tomake gold and goods change hands.

F ry & CookTo regenerate health and mana, you can consume healing herbs andfoodstuff, whereby the full effect of many herbs will only develop with

alchemy. It is different with properdishes like meat stew or ragout,which immediately strengthen youfor the long term. However, alongwith the respective recipe, you need aladle, the appropriate ingredients anda cauldron to prepare these dishes.

Brew PotionsTo brew potions, you must bepowerful in alchemy. Furthermore,you need recipes, the necessaryingredients and an alchemy table toproduce potions. Besides potionsthat regenerate your health and

your mana, there are also thosethat permanently increase yourattributes like for example strengthor dexterity.

HintAlong with a pan (which you should always have with you), youneed a campfire or a stove to fry raw meat, raw onions orfish!

In addition to simple fare, you can also prepare more elaborate dishes onstoves!

HintDrinking from water drums regenerates health and mana. If onthe other hand you need to move quicker, then you can resort to a

healing or mana potion at any time.

Treasures In various placeson the volcanic island, treasuresare buried, for example in tombsor in places where the groundappears brighter than around it.To raise these treasures, you willneed a shovel, a good eye anda proper share of luck (or the

The journal is possibly your most important tool of all. Here you will findnot just data for all your current quests (tasks), but also information on alltrainers and merchants who you have already met. Moreover, you haveaccess here to a large overview map of the island as well as to regionalmaps of cities or dungeons, that are however not originally available to you;instead you must first find the corresponding maps or get them handed overto you from a non-player character.

QuestsYou receive quests exclusively from other characters. You first find outwhether an NPC has a task for you or not when you chat with them. For this

reason, it is recommended that you speak to everyone you encounter as abasic principle! You can subsequently find accepted quests in your journal.

How can I set my character class?

Unlike many other role-playing games, you dont have to already set the class of yourhero before the beginning of the game. Over the course of Chapter 1 you will first havethe option of aligning yourself with one of three fractions (Bandits, Mages, Inquisition).Each of these fractions has different abilities at their disposal, which are not available tothe others or only available in limited measures. Mages for example inherently employ

powerful magic, whereas the Inquisitions warriors of the Order chiefly resort to scrollsand staff weapons; bandits on the other hand are more hatchet men and fight withswords and axes, without magical frills.

Im dying too often at the beginning what can I do?

Use the save function frequently. Your hero is still very weak right at the beginning of thegame and must often rely more on cunning and guile, than on his physical strength anddexterity. You will find a few hints that should make the start of the game easier in thesection Getting Started further along in this manual.

Where can Ifind better items?Just keep your eyes open! Off the beaten track, far away from the main plot of thegame, you will time and again find smaller monster caves, ruins, more difficult to defeatenemies and dungeons where there are particularly good weapons and lots of gold to

obtain. Other items can be made or modified by the hero. If you have raw meat in yourinventory, for example, and use a stove or a campfire, prepare fried meat that you can useto replenish your health. Depending on the fraction you belong to, you can also createrunes and scrolls, forge weapons and learn other skills. Furthermore, if you have acquiredthievery skills, then you can steal helpful items from the NPCs again and again.

A character in the game is mad at me do I have to load an old game?The NPCs and members of the various fractions will react very differently to the actionsof your character: An argument with one character may bring problems in the short-run,yet can then open up new solution possibilities at a later point. Furthermore, more oftenthan not you can placate people you have angered with the scroll tell a joke, and sinceit is moreover not possible for you to send NPCs who are important for the progression ofthe plot to kingdom come once and for all, the game will always remain beatable.

Which fraction is the best?The game was carefully balanced so that the three character classes or fractions areevenly matched. Whichever alignment one chooses should depend on their individual

preferences. If you prefer to play the daring adventurer who is not always so particularabout morality, then the bandit is a good choice; if on the other hand, you would rather

confront your enemies with magic, then you will feel that you are in good hands with themages of the volcano keep, whereas the Inquisitions warriors of the Order are arrangedin between. Since there are partially different quests for all fractions and the storylinediffers accordingly, it is possible to confidently play throughRisen many times and stillmake new discoveries!

I was caught in a crime now what?

If the player steals from NPCs (and is caught doing so), threatens others with a weapon,attacks them or sends somebody to the happy hunting grounds within sight of a thirdparty, then the non-player characters will react to this and more often than not, not veryenthusiastically at that. Even NPCs dont like it when someone murders their livestock,wakes them from their sleep and disturbs their privacy in general, for example by lookingaround in their dwellings without being asked. In this case, it can happen that somebodyattacks you or wont talk to you anymore. You do certainly have the option of workingthe magic spell tell a joke to make things good again. But be careful: Some decisionsare irreversible and change the opinions of non-player characters of you for good!

Im stuck the enemies are just too strong!When you wander through the wilderness of the volcanic island, you will often encountermonsters that are simply too strong for you. Therefore, you should absolutely avoid these

enemies in the beginning. When one ventures too close to an animal for example, it willfeel threatened. Many animals will then initially take up a threat posture before theyattack, which will often give you the possibility to bring yourself to safety. If you are stillattacked, it will help merely to take to your heels and turn tail. Most of the enemies willabandon the chase after a little while, so that you can come back later with more combatexperience and better equipment to clear up the situation.

Are there items that you shouldnt sell?A few items are very rare and are required as an ingredient for particularly useful itemsor magic potions. You need some herbs to make potions for example, whereas seeminglyuseless things like bones or wing dust are in reality indispensable ingredients for thecreation of scrolls. It is therefore mostly recommended to collect and keep everything thatyou dont know for sure if you will possibly need later for something or other, becausewhen you are forced to buy back your own stuff entirely overpriced from the merchantyou sold it off to, it goes without saying that this can be annoying!

Is there such a thing as the right solution for a puzzle?No. Almost every situation inRisen can be mastered in various ways. Draw upon therespective strengths and skills of your character to reach the goal. Ultimately, every way

can be the right one.

What do I need to do next?Simply take a look at the journal to see which quests you still need to complete; usuallythe quest text together with the quest map provide you with a relatively good overviewof what needs to be done now.

Les classifications ESRB se divisent en deux parties gales :

Installation et activationInstallation du jeu

Insrez le DVD-ROM deRisen dans le lecteur de DVD de votre ordinateur. Sila fonction dexcution automatique est active, le programme dinstallationdmarre automatiquement. Dans le cas contraire, vous devez lancer linstallationmanuellement. Pour cela, double-cliquez sur licne Poste de travail de votre

DesinstallationUne fois le jeu install, vous avez la possibilit de dsinstallerRisen toutmoment. Pour cela, cliquez sur Dmarrer > Programmes, slectionnezRisen, puischoisissez loption de dsinstallation. Notez que la dsinstallation du jeu sousMicrosoft Vista depuis le menu Programmes ne fonctionnera pas si le Contrledu compte dutilisateur est activ (sauf de rares exceptions). Pour contourner ce

problme, il est recommand de dsinstallerRisen depuis loption Programmes etfonctionnalits du Panneau de configuration de Windows.

Resolution de problemesLa procdure dinstallation ne se lance pasVrifiez que votre ordinateur satisfait bien la configuration minimalerequise pour la prise en charge de Risen. Si le DVD-ROM deRisen ne peuttre lu par votre lecteur de DVD, contactez le service client Deep Silver.

Le jeu ne dmarre pas ou sinterrompt de faon anormalea) Vrifiez que votre ordinateur satisfait bien la configuration minimale requise

pour la prise en charge deRisen.

b) Vrifiez la configuration de votre ordinateur. Tous les pilotes, notamment lespilotes de la carte graphique, doivent tre jour. Vous trouverez facilement lesderniers pilotes de votre carte graphique sur le site web du fabricant. Vous pouvezenregistrer vos parties selon vos prfrences et mme leur attribuer un nomspcifique. Ce menu vous permet galement dafficher les succs disponiblesdansRisen.

En terminant certaines qutes,en liminant un certain nombredennemis, en acqurant certainescomptences particulires ou en ra-lisant de nombreuses autres actionsau cours de votre aventure, vousobtiendrez des points de succs.Le nombre de points accords se

situera entre 10 et 50 en fonction dela difficult dobtention de ces points. Il existe en tout 50 succs diffrents obtenir dansRisen pour un total de 1 000 points. Une liste des succs djobtenus et des succs que vous pouvez obtenir est disponible dans ce menu.

ArmesIl existe deux types darmes diffrents : les armes de corps corps et lesarmes distance.

Armes de corps corpsIl nest possible dutiliser quune seule arme de corps corps la fois. Alorsque les rebelles qui se battent avec des pes et des haches ont la possibilitde squiper dun bouclier pour bloquer les attaques ennemies, les mages

adeptes du bton auront quant eux besoin de leurs deux mains pour manierleur arme. Pour bloquer une attaque, appuyez sur le bouton droit de la sourisen mode combat. Notez toutefois quil nest pas possible de bloquer uneattaque et de frapper un adversaire en mme temps.

Armes distanceEn utilisant un arc ou une arbalte, vous avez la possibilit de viser avecprcision et dinfliger vos ennemis des dgts distance avant dengager

un combat au corps corps. Ces armes ncessitent toutefois lutilisationde flches ou de carreaux que vous pourrez acheter auprs des diffrentsmarchands. Vous pourrez mme parfois trouver quelques projectiles sur lesennemis tombs au combat.

Conseil Combos - Plus vous serez expriment dans le maniementdun type darme, plus vous pourrez utiliser dattaques diffrentes. Ilvous est en outre possible denchaner plusieurs attaques diffrentes et

former ainsi des combos afin dassner deux, trois, voire quatre coupsde suite. Utilisez les touches directionnelles pour excuter diffrents stylesdattaques. Il est conseill de ne pas toujours faire appel aux mmes tech-niques, dans la mesure o les ennemis peuvent ragir de manire diffrente vos attaques.

Armures et heaumesOutre les armes de corps corps et de combat distance comme les pes,les btons, les arcs et les arbaltes, il vous est possible de vous quiper dediffrents boucliers, armures et heaumes, mais aussi de porter certainsbijoux. Chaque lment de votre quipement dispose de caractristiquesparticulires ayant pour effet damliorer vos attributs ou vos comptences.Bien quil soit relativement facile de se procurer une arme ou un bouclierde base, en les prenant par exemple aux ennemis que vous avez vaincus, lesarmures sont quant elles plus difficiles acqurir. Dans la plupart des cas,ce sera le chef du camp que vous avez choisi qui mettra votre dispositionquelques armures lourdes en change dune coquette somme dargent. Vouspourrez toutefois trouver quelques armures lgres et casques de base auprsde certains marchands.

BijouxEn vous parant de diffrents anneaux et amulettes, vous pourrez facilement

amliorer vos attributs et vos comptences. Il nest possible de porter simul-tanment que deux anneaux et une amulette. Vous trouverez notamment cesbijoux sur les ennemis tombs au combat, dans des coffres ou directementauprs de certains marchands. Sachez que vous aurez mme la possibilit defabriquer vous-mme des anneaux et des amulettes magiques en vous initiant lart de lorfvrerie.

Votre personnage se construit au fil de laventure en dveloppant certainsattributs et en acqurant diverses comptences. Les attributs correspondentaux diffrentes caractristiques de votre personnage, comme sa force ou sadextrit, alors que certaines aptitudes comme le Vol la tire ou la Discrtionappartiennent la catgorie des comptences.

Astuce La qualit de la protection offerte par les armures et lesboucliers dpend gnralement du type dattaque dont vous

tes la cible. Vous serez par exemple plus ou moins bien protg contre leslames, les armes contondantes, les armes perforantes, le feu ou encore lesattaques magiques. Plus le niveau de votre armure sera lev, mieux vousserez protg contre les diffrents types dattaques.

Astuce Si vous appuyez sur le bouton droit de la souris aprs avoir sorti votre arbalte, un rticule apparatra afin de mieux ajuster

votre tir. Sachez par ailleurs que les carreaux dune arbalte suivent une tra-jectoire droite, alors que lesflches dun arc suivent une trajectoire courbe.
