WHAT IS EXAMVIEW® ASSESSMENT SUITE? The ExamView® Assessment Suite is a family of software products that creates assessment questions and tests for K-12 classrooms, universities, and corporations.

•• The ExamView Assessment Suite is comprised of the Test Generator, Test Manager, and Test Player.

oo Instructors use the Test Generator to create and manage assessment items, study guides, and tests.

oo Instructors use the Test Manager to view reports of test results.

oo Students use the Test Player to take tests that have been placed on a local area network (LAN).

•• The ExamView Assessment Suite can save you hours of work each week and significantly improve how you create and administer tests, worksheets, and study guides, resulting in improved student learning and more accurate student progress assessment.

WHAT IS THE EXAMVIEW TEST GENERATOR? The ExamView Test Generator is a powerful assessment tool for creating questions and building tests, worksheets, and study guides in any subject area. The ExamView Test Generator includes two components: Question Bank Editor and Test Builder.

•• The Question Bank Editor allows you to create your own question banks or to edit questions in the ExamView Learning Series (22 grade-level products with more than 8,400 questions in math, science, social studies, and reading) or an existing publisher-supplied question bank.

oo A question bank (or a bank) is a database of up to 250 questions from which you can make selections to be included on a test.

oo A question bank can include questions from any of the 14 different question types, including multiple choice, true/false, short answer, and completion.

•• The Test Builder allows you to create a test from questions in the Question Bank Editor and to print and save a test.

oo A test is a series of formatted questions of one or more question types.

•• Question banks are the source files of questions that appear on a test.

oo You should make any permanent changes to questions at the source (i.e., in the question bank), not on a test.

oo If you make changes to questions on a test, those changes will not be reflected in the question bank.

START THE EXAMVIEW TEST GENERATOR You can launch the ExamView Test Generator program in one of two ways: (1) click Start and select ExamView Test Generator on the Start menu or point to All Programs, select ExamView Pro Test Generator, and select ExamView Test Generator or (2) double-click the shortcut icon on the desktop.

Important: If this is the first time you are running ExamView Test Generator, you will be prompted to enter your name, organization name, and city/state.

CREATE A NEW TEST WITH THE QUICKTEST WIZARD Within a few minutes, you can create a test in ExamView. The fastest, easiest way to build a test is to use the QuickTest Wizard.

Step 1: Start ExamView Test Generator .

•• ExamView Test Generator is commonly referred to simply as ExamView.

Page 7: Getting Started With ExamView Test Builder

Getting Started With ExamView Test Builder 3

•• Make sure that your state (Edit | Preferences) is set to FL. The existing question banks used in this section were built using Learning Series FCAT questions.

•• The Test Builder is the ExamView component in which you create tests, quizzes, and worksheets.

oo To create a test, quiz, or worksheet, you will select questions from existing question banks.

•• The QuickTest Wizard is one of the seven methods available for building a test in the Test Builder.

Step 2: Select Create a new test using the QuickTest Wizard and click OK. (See Figure 1.)

Figure 1 ExamView Test Generator – Startup menu

Step 3: Select Scramble questions. (See Figure 61.)

Figure 61 Print Test options

•• You can easily score paper tests with the Print answer strip option.

oo Answers for all objective questions, such as the multiple choice questions, are printed in columns on a separate page that prints at the end of each test.

oo Spacing for the answers on the answer strip corresponds to the vertical spacing of the questions on the test.

oo To use an answer strip, fold it so that only one column is visible at a time. Then match up the answer strip to a page of a student’s completed test. You can score the student’s work quickly. The Print answer strip option is available only when the test layout is set to leave answer space for objective questions.

Step 4: Select Print answer strip. (See Figure 62.)

Step 5: Select Print version map.

Step 6: Click OK.

SET UP A TEST FOR USE WITH A SCANNER The ExamView Test Manager makes it possible to score paper tests with a scanner. ExamView currently supports two scanners: the Apperson Advantage™ 1200 scanner and the Pearson/NCS EZData® scanner.

What is the ExamView Test Manager? •• The ExamView Test Manager is commonly referred to simply as the Test Manager.

Page 53: Getting Started With ExamView Test Builder

Getting Started With ExamView Test Builder 49

•• The Test Manager provides the tools necessary to track results of paper and online tests, quizzes, worksheets, etc. created with the ExamView Test Generator.

•• The Test Manager provides an array of useful features to gather detailed performance data.

oo You can create a class roster that includes a wide range of student information including demographic information. You can then track individual student results and/or class trends.

oo You can automatically score paper tests using a scanner to gather data.

oo You can administer and automatically score online (LAN-based) tests.

oo You can produce a variety of useful class and student reports. If your tests include learning objectives, state standards, etc., you can use the information to pinpoint areas where students need additional help.
