MARKET DEFINITION
Animal health market is a growing industry comprising companion animals and Farm animals.
Companion animals are those which people tame or adopt for companionship, house/ office guards,
and farm animals are raised for meat and milk related products. Companion animals include dogs, cats
and horses. Farm animals are Cattle, Poultry, Swine, Fish, etc.
Major companies in the market are actively producing and manufacturing animal health care products,
pharmaceuticals and others. This market research report provides in-depth market intelligence of
animal health care industry.
Germany veterinary healthcare market is growing because of the increasing population of both the
types of animals. Increasing consumption of meat and milk products, new diseases in animals and
transfer of these diseases from animals to human beings are propelling animal healthcare market
globally.
The changing lifestyle, increasing per capita income and increasing population has led to an increase in
meat consumption. The demand of animal rich protein such as meat, eggs and milk is rising and due to
this, population of farm animals is also increasing.
Based on the products, market is divided into vaccines, paraciticides, anti-infectives and medicinal feed
additives. Medicinal feed additives are growing at a faster pace because of people’s awareness of
animal health and the connection between animal health and human health. The pharmaceutical and
vaccine market is growing due to increasing number of diseases in animal and increasing concern of
animal immunization.

MARKET DRIVERS
GREATER LIVESTOCK PRODUCTION
The demand for information on livestock production is growing, both in the sense of demands
expressed by the producers themselves, and in the more general sense of a growing potential for
increasing production through the delivery of information. The livestock sector is very dynamic globally.
Rapidly increasing demand for livestock products in developing countries is the major factor for
increased livestock production. In developed countries, demand for livestock products is stagnating,
while many production systems are increasing their efficiency and environmental sustainability.
Developments in breeding, nutrition and animal health will continue to contribute to increasing
population of livestock. Demand for livestock products in the future could be heavily moderated by
socio-economic factors such as human health concerns and changing socio-cultural values. The global
livestock sector is characterized by a dichotomy between developing and developed countries. Total
meat production in the developing world tripled between 1980 and 2002, from 45 to 134 million tons
(World Bank 2009). Every year the number of farms and heads of animals are increasing in Germany. In
2010, the number of farms and heads of animals were approximately 216,100 and this number is
estimated to increase in the coming years owing to increasing demand of livestock population in this
region.

GERMANY FARM AND COMPANION VETERINARY HEALTH MARKET
Livestock is the main source of income in agriculture. Approx. 60 percent of the revenue from German
agriculture comes from the sale of livestock farming products.
Pigs
In May 2009, roughly 26.9 million pigs were kept in approx. 67,600 farms in Germany. This implies the
number of pigs has increased by 0.6 percent as compared to the previous year and the number is
expected to increase in forecast period 2014-2019. There was a slight rise in the number of breeding
cows of 0.5 percent to 2.3 million in the last six months. With a share of almost 20 percent, Germany is
the largest pork producer in the EU and with 15 percent, the second largest producer of beef and veal.
Talking about companion animal market in Germany, there are 8 million cats, over 5 million dogs and
another 5 million small animals.
Both companion and Farm animal market consists of vaccines, paraciticides, anti-infectives, medicinal
feed additives etc. Animal vaccines is the fastest growing market estimated to reach US$ 0.925 billion in
2019 with a healthy CAGR of 10.28% , followed by Anti-infectives market growing at a CAGR of 9.54%.
Germany Farm animal health market is US$ 0.369 in 2014 and is estimated to reach US$ 0.587 by 2019.
