Geological profil
The Geopark is situated in paleozoic rocks of the Greywacke Zone and Mesozoic Rock of the Northern Calcareous Alps. These two units form the nappe complex of the Austroalpine System.
The Greywacke Zone consists of metamorphosed mudrocks and sandstones and subordinate volcanic rocks (basalts and rhyolites), having been metamorphosed during the Variscan (420-250 Million years ago) and the Alpine Orogenesis. Both events reached Temperatures of more than 350°C, meaning burial depths of 13-15 km.
The ores are hosted by metasedimentary rocks and metavol-canics of the Greywacke Zone. Stratabound sedimentary-exha-lative “SEDEX” mineralization as well as clearly discordant vein-types ores are known.
