Preamble

This unified “General conditions for purchasing aluminium” respective EUR-SCM-XA-0001 and the

“Technical specifications for purchasing aluminium alloy” respective EUR-SCM-XA-0002 were

created to lighten the conversation between Nemak and its suppliers. In the entire document the English version is valid in case of variations between the different language versions.

These “General conditions for purchasing aluminium” is structured in two sections. In the first section are the ”Nemak Europe General conditions” listed. In the second section are the “Nemak plant additional requirements” listed. Any changes must be approved by the central SCM and must be included in this book”. 1. Nemak Europe General conditions: 1.1 General requirements for purchasing aluminum alloy Chemical composition and documentation

- Chemical composition: - The chemical composition shall conform to the technical specifications for each

alloy. - Tolerance limits shall be complied with, taking into account the Rounding rules set

forth in EN 1706. - The chemical composition of each furnace charge shall be determined upon removal

from mould at the beginning, in the middle, and at the end of casting, minimum 3 samples per 50 tons.

- Process control: Melt treatment & quality:

- After chlorine flushing, the melt is to be degassed with nitrogen or argon. - After chlorine flushing no addition of sodium is allowed! If incoming goods show

sodium content of 0 ppm, the outgoing analysis of the supplier should be taken into account.

- Fracture appearance: - Uniform across cross-section of ingot - The modify structure of ingot must be verified on micro section. - Free from - Non-metallic inclusions - Visible gas pores - Foam inclusions. - The micro section sample and the records must be stored at least 1 year.

- Sampling preparation:

- At least 1 mushroom-type or cylindrical specimen and 1 ingot specimen per charge shall be supplied together with the charge (no ingot specimens necessary for continuous casting).

- For each batch a micro section of an ingot has to be prepared (from the middle of the pouring process).

- A mushroom sample is to be cast at the beginning, middle, and end of the ingot casting process.

- Cross section diameter of the sample has to be less than 60 mm.

- Sampling chemistry: - Micro sections listed above must be sent in with the delivery. - Result of chemical composition analysis through emission spectrometry of the whole

melting is an arithmetical average of analysis results of all samples from the melting. 3 measurements per mushroom.

- Radioactivity:

- The metal to be supplied shall be free from ionizing radiation in excess of natural radiation, Radiation max. 1µSV/h.

- Density index / Hydrogen content:

- Case for ingots: Density Index required is maximum 6,0% in Cu die or Steel die (Cu die is preferred); Hydrogen content required is maximum 0,20cm3/100g. One of the values (DI or Hydrogen) has to be indicated in the raw material certification for every delivery.

- Liquid cases please see specific Nemak plant additional requirements attached in this document.

Surface - Closed, bright metallic, dry

- No signs of corrosion and/or oxide films. - Blocks without sharp edges

Ingots/billets sections Stacks

- Weight per ingot: 5 to 10kg. - Length: Max. 720mm. shorter ingots are preferred. - Continuous ingots are allowed.

- Single stack: Max 700Kg. Double-stacks approx. 1,000-1,400 kg stacked on single

supporting. - Ingots of the same alloy are to be used as stack base. - Height of supporting ingot (Foot) max: 100mm (+/-10mm). - Height from the floor: Max: 730mm. Max: 13 rows. - Height of stacks must be same in one shipment. - The material shall be bundled such that charges are strictly separated. - It shall be possible to safely stack three stacks on top of one another. - Handling with every stack has to be made possible via the shape of blocks in the

bottom row or via pre-cast legs from the same. - Inclined 30% relative to horizontal floor.

Packaging - Aluminum straps preferred but also plastic is allowed. - Steel straps or package with shrink wrapping is possible only under approval from the

Nemak plant. - Firmly bundled, secured against slipping. - Plastic foil around the stacks is not allowed. - In special cases packing instructions will be provided by each Nemak plant.

Marking - Marking by waterproof paint as a minimum on both front and rear ends of the double

stacks or perpendicular on two sides of a single stack as explicitly stated below see chapter 2. Marking procedure.

- Marking by casting-in, punch-marking or stamping of the material symbol (see below), charge number and manufacturer's symbol

- Every ingot stack is to be labeled with the alloy type, batch number, and total stack weight

- The ingot stacks are to be labeled with numbers (1 to ..) in the order they were cast - The used colour has to be resistant to unintentional wash off. Furthermore the colour

must not have any negative repercussions on the metallic characteristics and should be environmentally compatible.

- See Technical specification (EUR-SCM-XA-0002) for every alloy colour.

Shipping documentation
