ABOUT SOTKONSotkon is the market leader in Iberia and has a significant global presence in underground containers market for the selective collection of household refuse. The company prides itself on the sustainable pathway it has followed in terms of growth over the last 20 years.

HISTORYThe first idea for an underground container was conceived in the early nineties and led to an innovative system. The company currently holds various patents of underground containers systems.

Sotkon began the international expansion based in the concept implemented in Spain and Portugal. Today, the Sotkon Group is present in several countries and has more than 20,000 containers installed in about 20 countries.

The underground container collection systems have more capacity and hide the waste from the surface, reducing the visual and environmental impacts caused by the traditional surface containers. These systems will reduce the number of the collection vehicles tours and consequently the costs of the operation because of their increased deposition capacity. The energy consumed and the need for hand labour is reduced improving the working conditions during collection.

The underground systems allow to use less operators to collect larger capacity containers, adding a higher level of profitability to the operation. The Standard Sotkon system allows to collect a 3m3 underground container with only a single operator using the traditional rear loading collection truck with a small crane on top of the truck body. The Sotkon compact systems makes possible for a single operator to collect the container with a larger capacity crane installed on a truck. A single operator inside the truck cabin can control all the movements of the 3m3 side loading Sotkon underground container.

The Sotkon underground containers are harmoniously integrated with their surroundings, which encourages increased and better separation. By separating waste at source, the volume of recyclables is increased and costs of further separation are reduced.

The protection against the waste interaction with excessive heat and animals contributes to the reduction of unpleasant odours and the risk of disease transmission, favouring a good environment and public health.

The Sotkon systems are based on a simple concept.

On the surface are placed discrete intake columns, produced in stainless steel that guarantees maximum durability and corrosion resistance. The intake columns are placed on a pedestrian platform integrated with the surrounding area. A concrete bunker is placed below the pedestrian platform, watertight and capable of being used in very high water levels. Finally inside the concrete bunker is placed a container with reinforced regions and adapted to operate with all the different types of waste collection system.

SOTKIS is an integrated management system that provides information about the various processes involved in waste collection so as to maximize the efficiency of allocated resources and increase the profitability of service. Using the SOTKIS system, each entity may have information about the filling level of containers, plan the most efficient route, know frequencies of deposition and introduce systems Pay-As-You-Throw (PAYT).

With Sotkon systems you can add an extra level of safety, confort in the collection. All Sotkon underground systems may include a safety platform that prevents accidental fall. The safety platform is a device that closes the entire opening of the bunker when the container is removed. For a single operator collection Sotkon can provide a crane automatic hook mechanism allowing an easier and remote controlled handling of the container. An automatic lid option is possible with 24V electric driven cylinder that can be powered by the waste collection truck or from the electrical net work if available.

Our Containers

Characterized by their simplicity and functionality, Sotkon intake columns present an attractive design for street furniture. Our products are designed to ergonomically provide ease of use, safety and hygiene. The intake columns are produced in stainless steel to preserve its appearance and to endure extremely aggressive environments. It is possible to provide models on request for special projects. The opening can be modified for specific types of waste.

Containers are designed to have an exceptional mechanical strength, having no metallic element in contact with the waste. The deposit and the lower lids of the container are made of polyethylene by rotational molding and the metal hardware it is hot dip galvanized. A small crane placed on the roof of the waste collection vehicle is used to lift the 3m3 closed bottom container up to the rear bin lifter where it is discharged. 3m3 and 5m3 open bottom containers are collected and discharges by top loading waste collection trucks equipped with a crane. The side loaging container collection process is fully automated and controlled from inside the side loading cabin truck through a wifi system.
