Per the standards and guidelines set up by the Craft Yarn Council, I have labeled this pattern as an

intermediate-level project.

• Stylecraft Special DK yarn in the colors Lipstick and White

• Two size 8 (5mm) straight knitting needles 10” long

• Two size 8 (5mm) double-pointed needles, 7 ½” long or longer (used for the invisible bind-off method)

• Scissors

• Yarn Needle

• Size H (5mm) crochet hook (optional if you’re knitting this pattern, but helpful for if you drop stitches)

• Locking stitch marker (optional, but helpful for determining right/wrong side)

The chart itself shows the design you'll be making on the RIGHT SIDE (RS) of your work. The WRONG SIDE (WS) will be the mirror image and the opposite colors.

Remember to cross off each row on the chart as you go before starting the next row.

Helpful reminder: whichever side you're working on (RS or WS), just remember that you always want to KNIT the color that you want to see on the side facing you and PURL the color that you want to see on the side facing away from you.

Tips for right- and left-handed knitters are provided later on in this PDF pattern.

If you plan on crocheting this blanket, I recommend using simple single crochet as your stitch. This will help make sure your blanket comes out to a similar size as my double-knit version.

Note: In double-knit, the graphs come out looking a little squished from top to bottom. You can block the squares to make them more rectangular, which helps with the design, but I don’t think this “squishiness” is super noticeable. Single crochet is taller than it is wide, so your single crochet squares will be more rectangular than square.

Remember, start on the lower right-hand side of the chart. Cast on 35 pairs of stitches (70 stitches total), making sure to alternate colors in such a way so as to end with your background color.

Work all odd-numbered rows from right to left. Work all even-numbered rows from left to right.

You can see that the

of what is show on the

front (right side) of the
