Gatwick Airport Notice Title: SafeContractor Accreditation Requirement Ref No: GAN/F:305/17 Issue Date: 04/10/2017 Effective Date: 04/10/2017 Expiry Date: 31/01/2018 It is the responsibility of all employers to ensure the relevant Airport Notice is brought to the attention of their staff. However individuals remain responsible for their own actions and those who are in any doubt should consult their supervisor or manager. Introduction: The core legal duties defined in the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 and Management of Health & Safety at Work Regulations 1999 apply to the control of contractors on Gatwick Airport Limited (GAL) premises or locations under GAL's control. GAL will be introducing a mandatory requirement for contracting companies (contractors) to become accredited by SafeContractor. Companies will be assessed against SafeContractor's Health and Safety Assessment Standards which will determine the organisational capability of each contracting company and display their primary categories of work and specified site based activities. The term ‘contractor’ includes, but is not limited to persons or companies undertaking the following activities related to infrastructure, plant, equipment and systems on GAL owned premises: design, building, construction, installation, commissioning, inspection, service, repair, maintenance, testing, cleaning, alteration, moving, decommissioning, refurbishment, alterations, demolition, removal, electrical works, gas works, excavation, digging, cabling, building fabric works, etc. The term ‘contractor’ does not apply to Airlines, Ground Handling Agents or ANS. This GAN applies to all contractors working on Gatwick premises, regardless of who has engaged them. This GAN also applies to all persons or companies who engage contractors to undertake work on their behalf. Programme: 04 Oct 17 - GAN issued by GAL 05 Oct 17 - Pre note issued to contractors by SafeContractor 9 Oct 17 - Invites issued to contractors by email and follow up calls commence by SafeContractor 23 Oct 17 - Follow up emails issued by SafeContractor 6 Nov 17 - Final warning emails issued to contractors by SafeContractor and GAL issue GAD (Gatwick Airport Directive) 01 Feb 18 - Contracting companies who are not accredited will not be permitted to work on GAL premises Operational Impacts: From the 1st February 18, companies that are not accredited will not be permitted to work on GAL premises and will be unable to submit permits or work requests though the permit to work system (P2W).
