First Reading: 2 Kings 4:8–11, 14–16a

A woman of influence provided a room for Elisha. In gratitude,

he promised the woman, who had no child, that within a year

she would bear a baby boy.

Second Reading: Romans 6:3–4, 8–11

As Jesus conquered sin through death and resurrection, so his

faithful have died to sin and come alive in God through baptism.

Gospel: Matthew 10:26–33

Jesus told his apostles that people who seek only themselves

come to ruin. Those who deny themselves for his sake discover

themselves. Those who welcome prophets receive great

rewards; those who welcome holy persons welcome the Lord.

Act of Spiritual Communion

My Jesus,

I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament.

I love You above all things,

and I desire to receive You into my soul.

Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally,

come at least spiritually into my heart.

I embrace You as if You were already there

and unite myself wholly to You.

Never permit me to be separated from You.

Amen.
