Crane LakeOnly one mile from the end of the road gives Pine Point the quiet getaway location that you will cherish each time you visit. Being strategically located at your back door, the BWCAW, Voyageurs National Park, and Canada’s Quetico Provincial Park offer you unspoiled wilderness with millions of acres and thousands of scenic shoreline miles to fish, hike, and explore.

From Crane Lake you can travel over 120 miles by boat. Crane Lake has many natural fishing areas. On either side of Pine Point’s Peninsula, there are two separate rivers coming in. Walleyes, bass and crappies key on the forage that is abundant in these incoming waters.

An underwater ridge is located just in front of the Resort. This makes for an excellent crappie fishing hole. In fact, try fish-ing from the docks at the Resort. Northerns, bass, walleyes or crappies are frequently caught just outside your cottage door. Find a favorite fishing hole, take in some scenic and historic sites, or you can portage a short distance to try a day of wil-derness fishing on one of our remote hike-in lakes described. There is something for everyone!

On our wilderness lakes, we have a limited number of boats available for our guests. The low fishing pressure in these lakes keeps the fishing at world class level. Fish for trophy walleye, large and smallmouth bass, crappie, northern pike, lake trout, and a variety of panfish.

Lilac LakeAttention anglers! Lilac Lake produces unbelievable northern pike, lake trout, largemouth and smallmouth bass. Approximately 10 scenic miles by boat from the Lodge, this lake is located just across the border in Canadian waters. After a one-quarter mile portage on relatively flat terrain, you’ll be on the pristine shorelines of Lilac Lake ready for a great day!

Warning: With the abundant northern pike also lurking in the waters, your topwater fishing can become a thrill of a lifetime. Grab your pole, tacklebox, and get prepared for some fierce fishing!

Loon LakeOne of the most scenic trips to take. Voyage down the Loon River to a mechanical portage that allows you to cross into Loon Lake.

The walleye, northern pike and smallmouth bass fishing are spectacular in these majestic waters. Fish either the American or Canadian side.

The distance from the Lodge is approximately 20 miles. Caution is to be used when traveling to Loon Lake. For your first trip a guide would be recommended.Anticipate seeing a majestic bull moose, black bear, playful otters or other mystify-ing wildlife. Don’t forget your camera for this trip!!

Vermilion River – River fishing at its best! Our 14’ boat is nestled below the falls on the Vermilion River. This allows you to fish the area from the Vermilion Falls down to the Rapids above the Gorge at Crane Lake.

Note: Very little fishing pressure is on this area. We have maps that you can review to help you become familiar with this exclusive fishing area.

Walleyes, crappies and bass swim in the strong currents of this secret fishing hole.

The 300-yard portage is very scenic wilderness trail.

Sharpen up your river fishing skills on the Vermilion River. Get ready to reel them in!

Mukooda LakeThis lake is about 5 miles from the Lodge by boat, and the hike to Mukooda is relatively easy, less than a block long. We have two boats on Mukooda available for Pine Point guests to use. The lake is known for its small and largemouth bass, lake trout and abundant panfish. This is an action-packed fishing lake for youngsters and adults alike.

Mukooda is a clear, spring-fed lake with a clarity of approximately 20’. Bring your snorkel or scuba gear and head to the depths of the astounding lake. Swim amongst the bass and other fish as you explore this phenomenal lake.

There is a marvelous beach and picnic area located on the lake. Pack a shore lunch and head out to Mukooda for a perfect remote lake experi-ence!!

LAn incredible sight, the Crane Lake Gorge

Vermilion Gorge Hike the Historic Gorge... track wildlife... listen to loons... watch eagles.

One of the most picturesque areas of Crane Lake is the Vermilion Gorge. The trail can be picked up just around the point from the Lodge. There is a nice picnic area located at the mouth of the gorge. Let us know if you would like to use our shore lunch kit for an afternoon picnic.

The 3 mile Vermilion Gorge Trail, at a leisurely pace, can be easily hiked in 3 hours. The last portion of the trail parallels the Gorge – a rugged landscape of sheer granite cliffs and rock outcrops. As you begin this portion of the trail, notice the change in vegetation. The ground is covered with a soft, green moss carpet sprinkled with spearmint plants to enhance the beauty of this majestic, scenic wonder.

A breathtaking adventure you must experience.

Visit the Vermilion Falls...marvel at the cascading waterfall...

A 10-minute hike on a well-maintained trail going southwest puts you at the Vermilion Falls, a cascading torrent of water forced through a 10-foot-wide opening in the granite.

The northeast section of the trail will lead you to “The Chute,” a constriction in the river that produces a Class III to V rapids. This is a pleasant 5-minute walk and worth the effort.

Look for wild rice beds. The shoots begin to emerge in mid-July and seed heads won’t develop until the first part of August. Extensive wild rice beds flourish along the Vermilion River and are harvested by humans and wildlife alike from late August through October. There are picnic tables and fire grates at the site for a perfect afternoon adventure!

Of the park’s 218,000 acres over one-third are water. Thirty lakes of all sizes make up this enchanting chain of lakes. The larger lakes are dotted with pine covered rocky islands. The beauty is extraordinary.

Your experience at Pine Point could include motor-boating, fishing, canoeing, sightseeing, hiking along trails – looking for animal signs or blueberries in sea-son. Voyageurs National Park stands preserved and protected by the National Park Service, giving you a view of the world as it appeared to the French and Canadian fur traders centu-ries ago.

FIShING GUIdES - ELIMINATE ThE GUESSWORk Jump start your vacation successfully with the assistance of our expert fishing guides. First time and longtime visitors to Pine Point will agree that guides are the key to finding and catching fish. Treat yourself to an unforgettable day on the lake!

Gain knowledge, and technique from the most educated fishing guides in the area. Use your new skills and reap the rewards!

• Guides have years of experience on the lake. They know daily exactly what technique, location, depths and how fish are biting in a variety of conditions.

• Guides have the most up to date equipment and tackle.• Guides know how to catch fish and cook them over an open fire for a tasty, mouth-

watering, shorelunch of a lifetime.• Guides are licensed and produce results.

Most guides prefer to use their own boat. However, if you are renting one of our premium boats, or have a similar boat, some guides are available to fish from those boats starting at $150. Guide reservations should be made in advance.

Are you looking for a one of a kind Muskie trip of a lifetime?Imagine telling your friends that you fished for a distinct muskie that was left behind after the glaciers receded thousands of years ago! Truly, these unique fish are only found in this exclusive lake and have been labeled a genetically dwarfed species. Your adventure begins with a 2 1/2 mile hike, where you will find a canoe, then paddle for one mile, and finish with an approximate quarter mile portage to this mystifying lake. Check with Jeff or Cathy to make plans for this trip.

Can Lake Sturgeon fly? We’d have a photo, but it’s nearly impossible to catch on film. Grab your camera and get ready for the challenge! In any event, in an average week, there are multiple sightings of this prehistoric fish jumping (it looks like they are trying to fly) out of the water. If you’re out fishing on the water, you’ll hear a loud belly flop splash; you’ll look around quickly and then wonder, “What was that?” Well, most likely, it would have been a Lake Sturgeon! Not only do they jump, but when you least expect it, one will latch onto your fishing line and give you the fight of a lifetime! Generally, he, or she, who is fishing, has been extremely surprised to have one on their line. This battle with one of the oldest vertebrates on Earth can last for hours! Typically, nine out of ten times, your fishing equipment will lose the battle. A photo taken is a well earned prize!
