    Dear Hasan

I extend my greetings to you. I am w riting these few lines while sitting in one of the beautiful

public parks that are widespread across London. With me in this park, which is near the

famous British Hou ses of Parliament, is my friend Ah mad w ith whom I am staying. We will

be going together to v isit the historic royal palace. Then we will be going to the British

Museum before visiting the Islamic Cultural Centre in West London, where w e will pray salat

al-maghrib (the prayer just after sunset), God w illing.

The weather is very cold today. Most parts of Britain have been experiencing snowfall for the

past tw o days. The streets and the roofs of the bu ildings are covered w ith snow. I saw a snow

plough clearing away the snow that had accumulated in the streets. I also saw council workers

spreading grit on Londons roads to p revent cars from skidd ing and having accidents.

The house of my friend Ahmed , as is the case with m ost British houses, is equipped w ith cen-

tral heating. Behind the hou se is a large garden of flowers.

In spite of the fact that the w eather is very wet and the rain is falling constantly, I am never-

theless having a w onderful time here in London.

I will write to you again from London before I return to you in Dam ascus at the beginning of

    next month, God willing.

Convey my greetings to your family and our colleagues.

    Yours sincerely,

    Sabir
