What is GATE?

What is GATE GATE (Graduate aptitude test in Engineering) is an all India competitive exam for securing admission to Master's program in Engineering, in various engineering colleges and the premier Institutes in the country including IIT’s, IISc . The score of GATE is also helpful during interviews and Public sector unit job’s screening.

Some Recent Changes Made in GATE

ü Some Recent Changes Made in GATE The GATE for 2014 is being organized by IIT Kharagpur, this year.

ü Female candidate exempted from paying application fee.

ü Papers of 15 subjects will be conducted online. The photograph and fingerprint and signature must also be uploaded online.

ü New formula adapted to calculate scores. And few more changes.

Overview of GATE 2016

The GATE 2016 will jointly administered by the IISc and seven IIT’s namely Mumbai, Delhi, Kanpur, Roorkee, Madras, Kharagpur, Guwahati. The GATE organizing institute will be responsible for end to end process and making coordination among the other administering institutes.

The candidates who qualify the GATE exam and pursue the Masters programs and direct doctoral programs in Engineering, Technology, Architecture and doctoral programs will be given financial assistance by MHRD, government of India.

GATE Exam 2016 Date

GATE 2016 examinations will be held from last week of January 2016 to 3rd week of February 2016, during forenoon and afternoon session on Saturday and Sundays of the alternative weekends. The complete examination schedule will be notified to the candidates as soon as any official information will be available.

Preparing for GATE needs time and strategic planning along with implementation but even before that, first, introspect yourself of what you are weak in and what you are strong at. It is always advised to first finish up the part that interests you or sections you are strong in. This helps to build confidence and assures you increase in score.

The Second step is to take up the sections you are weak at. The focus must be on clearing basic to advance concepts first followed by practicing the questions until you attain accuracy. If your fundamentals are strong, your fear for the topic will get away. Schedule more hours if you do not feel confident about a particular chapter or section, because you cannot skip any section if you want to get good rank.

Keep looking and solving previous year’s question paper to have a fair idea of what level and type of questions to expect in your GATE exam. The questions may be tested in the form of Recall , Comprehension, Application, Analysis and Synthesis, Common Data Based Questions, Linked Answer Questions Memorize Formulas and short cut on your tips and make note of every chapter or topic. This helps a lot in last weeks of exam.

Detailed syllabus and multiple study resources must be with you to not skip even a single topic. Many books have previous year’s question paper along with sample papers. Browse through them and solve when you feel 80% of your preparation is done. Assess the mock test results to analyze your weak and strong area and accordingly work on them.

Maintain study routine and disciplined efforts, along with having gaps in between for leisure time and other entertainment. A healthy body and sound mind will let you stay focused.
