RAYTHEON VISION ALIGNED WITH FUTURE INDIAN ANS
GAGAN supports India’s
vision for ANS providing
satellite based navigation
service to aircrafts
Page 6
OUR VISION LEADS TO THE PBN BASED INDIAN ATM
GAGAN brings integrity
and accuracy to the ADS-
B service planned for
India’s Vision for
Surveillance Services
Page 7
Satellite based technology to replace ground based aids for air
traffic and navigation
Provides an accurate position with integrity for ADS-B service
needed for surveillance
ADS-B relies on a position source to broadcast aircraft location
GAGAN adds accuracy and integrity to the position that is
broadcasted
GAGAN facilitates India’s vision for Performance Based Navigation
Performance Based Navigation relies on aircraft’s own capability to achieve
specified performance level

INVESTMENTS MADE FOR GAGAN ARE SYNERGISTIC AND
NECESSARY FOR PBN
GAGAN SUPPORTS INDIA’S VISION FOR NAVIGATION
AND SURVEILLANCE

REDUCED AIRCRAFT SEPARATION WITH GAGAN IN
NON RADAR AIRSPACE

INCREASED PROXIMITY OF AIRCRAFT REQUIRES GAGAN INTEGRITY AND
PROMOTES HIGHER TRAFFIC ALONG PREFERRED ROUTES
Page 10
ATC Backroom Display
GAGAN SMS Displays in ATC backroom provide current ionospheric conditions
to inform ATC to adjust aircraft separations
Page 11
Benefits to ATC Increased Accuracy and Integrity in the airspace for the cost of a single
receiver installed on the aircraft
– Reduced separation between aircrafts to increase traffic density safely in the air
space
Allows aircraft to fly directly from one airport to another, as opposed to
following routes based on ground-based signals.
– Cuts route distances considerably in some cases, saving both time and fuel
Aligns with performance based navigation objective
– Enables pilots to safely fly at lower altitudes, especially in areas where terrain of
varying elevation affects ground-based systems
Reduces air traffic infrastructure costs
– SBAS landing procedure provides comparable landing capability
Seamless navigation across regional boundaries as GAGAN will be
compatible with other SBAS systems (MSAS, EGNOS and WAAS)
Page 12 10/28/2011
Time To Alarm
GAGAN continuously monitors both itself and the GPS satellites
In the event of a failure, an alarm message is sent within 6.2 seconds
Failures which result in an alarm: – GPS clock failure
– GPS maneuver while healthy
– GAGAN ground system failure
– Signal Deformation
An alarm does not cause a loss of function, it simply tells the user to stop
using the offending satellite
GAGAN responds to a hazard within 6.2 seconds.

Safety
– GAGAN provides India with a
sovereign means to enhance GPS
– Improved situational awareness via
low cost SBAS capable avionics.
– SBAS 3D precision guidance can
reduce landing accidents
– Higher Accuracy, integrity, continuity
and availability for both navigation and
ADS-B surveillance
– GAGAN provides seven 9’s of integrity
(probability of a hazard 1 in 10 million
per approach) .
Capacity – Improves availability of
navigation routes, enabling
reduction in aircraft spacing
safely
– Offloads major airports by
providing all weather
operations at secondary
airports
– Covers all routes and airports
within a region – not limited
by VHF broadcast station
range
GAGAN Benefits
Accord Software’s
certified SBAS receiver. Garmin’s GNS 530
certified SBAS receiver.
Page 14 10/28/2011
Efficiency – Enables optimum routes independent of
ground navigation aids
– Low incremental cost to expand regional
system into new areas
– No new equipment required at airports
– Reduces navigation system operating
costs
– GAGAN is ICAO compliant and
compatible with SBAS systems
Economic Growth – Makes all weather air services
available to more communities
– GAGAN signal also compatible
with non-aviation receivers
– Several million SBAS capable
receivers currently in use
– Enables many new multimodal
precise navigation applications
