Role profile – Teaching Focussed Appointment

Job Title: Associate Professor and Director of Undergraduate Programmes (Teaching

Focussed) Department: Nottingham University Business School Job Family & Level: Research and Teaching (Teaching Focussed), Level 6 Contract Status: Associate Professor Role (Permanent) Director of Undergraduate Programmes (3 years, subject to renewal) Hours of Work: Full-time, 36.25 hours per week

Associate Dean for Education and Student Experience (in relation to Director of UG Programmes role)

Job Outline: This role combines the role of Associate Professor (permanent contract) with the academic administrative role of Director of Undergraduate Programmes (3 years, subject to renewal). The appointment will be in the Research and Teaching job family, either as “Teaching” focussed or “Research and Teaching”, depending on the skills and experience of the successful candidate. This document sets out the specific requirements for a “Teaching Focussed” appointment. Associate Professor (Teaching Focussed, Permanent) The post holder will be expected to contribute to high quality teaching on the range of programmes offered by the School at both undergraduate and postgraduate level in one of the School’s eight academic divisions – see https://www.nottingham.ac.uk/business/about/research/divisions/index.html for more information. The post holder will also be required to make an appropriate contribution to administration. Director of Undergraduate Programmes (3 years, subject to renewal) The UG Programme Director is responsible for the development and maintenance of the UG degrees within the School, and for the relevant aspects of minor and joint degrees with other partnering schools at the University. The purpose of the role is to provide leadership and direction in relation to the provision of UG education both within the School and where appropriate between the three University of Nottingham campuses.

Liaise with Associate Dean Global Engagement and Recruitment, Course Directors and External Relations & Marketing regarding marketing activities; advertising; brochures; web pages and international recruitment fairs;

Lead, in consultation with the Dean, the management and decision making associated with A-level confirmation.

Where necessary assist in making decisions regarding applications for a particular course;

Management of UG Programme

Manage the UG Course Teams. To identify training and development needs for the Course Directors. To manage the allocation of above tasks and ensure that there is appropriate cover in cases of illness or other absences (e.g. research trips, study leave).

Provide clear communication with relevant academic staff, the course teams and administrative staff;

In consultation with the Associate Dean for Education and Student Experience, to lead the development, review and implementation of UG Education and Student Experience initiatives such as the NSS/TEF action plan.

Deal with programme-specific queries from students;

Encourage involvement with the programme from the relevant Centres, Institutes or Divisions;

Ensure that advice is provided to UG students to assist module choice.

Deliver programme induction sessions;

Oversee course directors in the monitoring of academic content on their course (including balance of assessments) and initiate changes where appropriate in consultation with the relevant Heads of Division;

Support course directors in gaining, managing and maintaining any relevant accreditations with external bodies;

Liaise with the Associate Dean for Education and Student Experience and the Head of STLC Committee regarding UG programmes’ compliance with UoN regulations;

Liaise with External Examiners as appropriate; ensure that External Examiners' comments relevant to the courses are dealt with appropriately;

Oversee the conduct of UG Exam Boards, including the conduct of Extenuating Circumstances Panels.

Course Development/Innovation

Liaise with the Associate Dean for Education and Student Experience and the Head of STLC Committee regarding development of new UG programmes;

Oversee programme innovation to ensure relevance to the requirements of QAA, accreditation bodies, students and industry.

Liaise with other Schools in the design and delivery of minor and joint degrees.

Evolve the programme in line with enhancing the employability prospects of the students;

To support and comply with the University and School teaching quality assurance standards and procedures, including the provision of such information as may be required.

Deliver consistently excellent teaching and support for student learning, influencing others via own practice; develop and apply high quality and appropriate teaching techniques and materials.

Design, develop and deliver a range of programmes of study, sometimes for entirely new courses at various levels; develop business cases based upon market intelligence and commercial knowledge.

Be responsible for dealing with referred issues for students within own educational programmes; be responsible for the pastoral care of students and support colleagues in developing their listening, interpersonal and pastoral care skills.

Generate income for the institution via contribution to the delivery of high quality programmes attracting high tariff students.

Provide academic and organisational leadership to those working within programme area.

Lead on the design and quality control of modules and/or programmes of study in specialist area ensuring the curriculum is up to date and international in its scope.
