LSAC Funding

• Innovative project grants (IPG)

– Up to $3000

– One per year per section

• Easy application and follow-up report

• New to the applying local section

• Stimulate local section member involvement

• Pilot projects for a continuing section activity or use a unique upcoming opportunity for the local section.

– Lots of examples of successful ones…

LSAC Funding

• Northeast Wisconsin, "Ledge"-ndary Grape Chemistry of the Escarpment: Organize an all-day conference on chemical safety in conjunction with NCW, inviting safety experts to perform experiments safely and fun.

• Louisiana, Workshop on Chemical Safety: Organize an all-day conference on chemical safety in conjunction with NCW, inviting safety experts to perform experiments safely and fun.

LSAC Funding

• Detroit, Chemistry Kids "Hide and Seek" Web Page: Creation of an interactive chemistry-related children's game via a webpage featured on the local section's website.

• Nashville, Career Collaborations in the Chemical Sciences: Host a career networking event, in which attendees will ask STEM professionals questions about resume and interview tips, how to find the right job, and learn about ACS career resources.

LSAC Funding

• Kanawha Valley, Clickers: An Active Learning Technique: Implement Clickers, an audience response technology tool, to promote active learning and involvement of high school students and the general public in chemistry demos and presentations.

If you were to repeat this program, what would you do differently?

•need better PR

•need more member volunteers

•need additional funding sources

•select a better time of the year to hold the event or program

Lessons Learned from IPG’s
