BRIEF DETAILS CATEGORY

This year the focus is about connecting or re-connecting people with others in their local community. Applications that combat loneliness and enable people to be active and engaged will receive their highest priority in 2017.

Grants may be able to help the people you support (e.g., the website’s FAQs talk about being able to contribute towards mobility scooters etc., where there is a need). Grants may also be used to support projects and activities (e.g., buying tools for a gardening project or men in sheds, etc.).

THE BARING FOUNDATION www.baringfoundation.org.uk Closing date: 23th January 2017

Applications have opened for their newest Funding Round of Strengthening the Voluntary Sector Programme. This programme supports effective use of the law and human rights based approaches by the voluntary sector in the United Kingdom. It is a collaboration with the Legal Education Foundation and the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation.

Funding is available through two separate funds:

training, education and capacity building – seed funding grants of up to £30,000 over six months to two years that support organisations to understand how their objectives can be achieved through use of the law or human rights based approaches; and

applied projects – grants of up to £150,000 over approximately three years to create new capacity for work that addresses specific discrimination or disadvantage and safeguards the freedom of purpose, action and voice of the sector, linking the skills of ‘non-legal’ and ‘legal’ organisations to enhance and complement campaigns for social change. Organisations will be expected to demonstrate innovative approaches to using these tools and evidence of how they will collaborate to support a shared agenda.

The foundation (previously the Bet365 foundation) provides grants to other registered charities in England. The principal activity of the Foundation is to provide funding to charities that will use the resources to enrich the lives of those that they exist to support. In particular, the Foundation provides funding for charitable projects that address the following areas: Health and Wellbeing: Education and Training; Medical Research and Development; Disaster Recovery and Emergency Relief; Community Development; Arts and Culture.

Funding is at the discretion of the Trustees. The Foundation tends to offer large grants for large projects. Last year the Foundation awarded £3.6 million in grants to 23 charities, 22 of which each received grants of more than £20,000.

The Trust does not currently maintain a website or an email account. Applicants will need to make a formal application and presentation to the Trustees - they will be invited to present their proposals to the Foundation's Trustees detailing how a donation would be used and the benefits that it would deliver.
