There are 53 different countries that make up Africa. Africans generally walking, bike or use animal drawn carts to get around. Motorized vehicles are mainly limited to large cities. There are thousands of different languages. The most popular is Swahili followed by Hausa and Yoruba. Religion is based on a set of beliefs and practices of moral behavior. Each African society has developed their own beliefs. Africa is surrounded by the Indian Ocean, Red Sea, Mediterranean Sea, and the Atlantic Ocean. Africa boasts the worlds longest river: The Nile ‐ 6,695 km (4,160 mi) and the worlds Largest Desert: Saharan Desert Africa’s highest mountain is Mount Kilimanjaro (5,895 m/19,341 ft) in Tanzania Some Native African Animals are: African lion, Cheetahs, Nile Hippopotamus, Pygmy Hippopotamus, Gorilla, Zebra, Serval, Caracal, Gazelles, Lemur, Rock Hyrax, Meerkat, Caracal, Impalas, Giraffes, Hyenas, Baboons, Nile Crocodiles, Snakes, Popular Food in Africa are vegetables, yams, green bananas, cassava, beans, lentils, barley, rice and wheat Popular Sports in Africa are: Soccer (football), Athletics, Cricket, Netball, Rugby, Basketball Environmental Issues: Weathering and erosion affect Africa’s surface. Rainfall, humidity and high temperatures all year round contribute to chemical weathering. Chemical weathering is when rocks disintegrate and decay of minerals that make up the rock. In the desert, it is the wind that causes erosion of the land. This is what creates sand dunes. The wind and waves also cause decomposition of the land along the coastal regions of Africa.

• The numerous insects in Africa bring with them numerous diseases which are a main cause of deaths in Africa. Malaria is a major source of deaths.  

• Deforestation and desertification are other environmental issue effecting Africa.  

• Overfishing, pollution, habitat changes are causing changes to Africas lakes and rivers. 

• Animals are facing extinction due to deforestation, hunting, pollution, and disturbances by tourists.
