Music Therapy Assessment Tool for Awareness in Disorders of Consciousness 19 – 21 May, 2017 9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. each day Robert Lerman Music Library at Norton Audubon Hospital The MATADOC training is a three-day program offered to music therapists and other clinicians working with people who have broad range of neurological impairment. The MATADOC is a validated and standardized measurement tool for use with adults with disorders of consciousness. Developed at the Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability in London, the MATADOC provides a rigorous assessment of people whose awareness is difficult to clinically assess due to severe brain damage. Following completion of this training, participants will be able to Implement two procedures from the standardized MATADOC assessment protocol o I A 1,12,13 a & b o II A 4 g & h o II a 3 b & e Complete the entire MATADOC assessment form and scoring sheet o III A 1,2,3 & 7 Rate the responses observed in patients with disorders of consciousness across auditory, visual, motor, communication, emotion, and arousal o III B 1 & 2 Dr. Wendy Magee is Associate Professor at Temple University, Philadelphia. She has practiced in neurological rehabilitation since 1988 as a music therapy clinician, researcher, manager and trainer (USA, UK, Ireland and Australia) with adults and children with complex disabilities stemming from acquired brain injury. Dr Magee is widely published, spanning neuroscience, medicine, rehabilitation, psychology, music therapy and health sociology, including a Cochrane Review.
