Red Skelton (District 71 Director)

My Name is Red Skelton and I am lucky enough to be the District 71 Director. I am a member of 4 clubs in my area with two clubs being advanced. I have a full time family, a full time job as a Systems Trainer (paid) and a full time job in Toastmasters (unpaid of course). Between these three groups I must say I do stay busy.

I recently finished a Masters Degree in Healthcare Management so clawed back some time from that. But, I like to live by my motto, "if it isn't fun, you are doing it wrong".

In my early years, I had bright Red hair. As time went on, it has turned to a more grey than Red but it is still there if you look hard enough! Also, For those that are of a specific age range, there was an American actor/comedian who had his own weekly TV variety show and had starred in many films back in the day. His name was Red Skelton and with my bright red hair and a last name like Skelton, it just made sense to someone. I have been called Red now for about 50 years! I am a Distinguished Toastmaster (DTM) and will shortly be receiving my 2nd DTM and my Triple Crown Award. I am very proud of these achievements. I have been in Toastmasters since 2003 I have attended a couple of planning sessions so far. I will continue to support the Conference Team in any way that I can to make the conference a success. During the Conference - I will be enjoying it! Yes, I will have things I need to do like conducting the Council Meeting where we will elect new Leaders, make decisions regarding realignment and even how we will operate future conferences. I might have a speech to do or two but, my main goal is to enjoy the conference and the lovely city of Cork! I'm most looking forward to meeting old Friends and making new friends.

I am looking forward to the Friday night to see all the different costumes. I am looking forward to Candidates Showcase where those candidates running for an office will be asked questions and we can watch out potential leaders in action. This helps when a person is undecided on how to vote. They will also be available to ask questions if you would like to talk to them.
